Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back after the summer break! I hope that you had a great holiday.

Last week we had four intensive days of staff training. Our staff across the primary and secondary schools now number 125 as we were joined by 36 new colleagues to INA at the start of the term.

It was fantastic to welcome the existing students back on Monday and to meet the new reception and Year 7 pupils. We have been most impressed with the way that the new students have settled in this week and quickly grasped our routines, expectations and procedures

I spoke to the parents of reception children last Friday about the concerns we have regarding cars coming down Cricklefield Place and blocking the car park at the start and end of the school day now that we have 900 students accessing and exiting the school daily and most of the parking spaces occupied by staff. Whilst we cannot prevent members of the public from driving down to the school and looking to park in the pay and display car park, we ask that parents and carers do not do this as it significantly increases the chances of a student being knocked down and injured. In the last three days alone we have seen a car parked on the double yellow lines preventing two way traffic in Cricklefield Place at the end of the school day, numerous cars illegally parked under the sports hall wing blocking the vehicles of members of staff, and a car with infants but no adult in it rolling forward because the hand break was not on. This is not a safe environment for our children and I would urge you to support the school in ensuring that such incidences are not repeated.

>>> NewsWelcome back. I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful summer break. It has been a great

week welcoming our second cohort of Reception pupils and their families to Isaac Newton Academy Primary. I have been hugely impressed by how quickly the Reception children

have managed to line up each morning and how brave they have been as they have waved goodbye to their parents. Reception parents, I am equally proud of your bravery, as you

kindly followed our advice and left us to settle the children each morning. I have every faith that the routines will get quicker every day.

Year 1 pupils have returned, a foot taller I’m sure, and role-modelling their fantastic BRIDGES habits from day one. The have been a superb help in welcoming the Reception children and have really taken them under their wing, especially at playtimes. Everybody

looks so smart, scholarly and ready to learn.

EnrichmentWe will be starting our enrichment clubs again from Monday 21st September. Every child is expected to participate in one enrichment club each week; this is an all-though school expectation. A letter has gone out in your child’s book bag. We ask that you complete this and return it to the class teacher by Tuesday 15th September, stating your child’s first and second preference. You will be notified of your child’s club before the end of next week. Failing to hand the letter back on time could result in your child not getting one of their preferred choices.

PE Kit

Reception children should be wearing their PE kit to school every Monday; they do not need their usual school uniform on this day.

Year 1 need to bring their PE kit to school on the following days:

Britten – Wednesday and ThursdayFitzgerald – Wednesday and FridayGlennie – Wednesday and Tuesday

We can not provide spare PE kit, so please ensure your child has their kit with them on the correct day.

Show & Tell on Mondays for Reception Classes

The children will be starting ‘Show and Tell’ on Monday afternoons. Four children from each class will be told each Friday if it is their turn prior to the Monday, so that over the course of the weekend your child can find and prepare something they would like to bring into to school and talk about to the rest of their class. They will be asked to bring in something as simple as a family photograph, a gift received, a postcard or a ticket stub from a day out. The item must be able to fit into a school bag, so no large toys etc. A note will be put into your child’s bag if it is their turn, informing you of the topic for this half term so that you can support your child in their preparation.

All Year 1 pupils will be expected to be wearing a blazer; this is still an optional item for the Reception children. Please speak to the staff in the primary reception if you have any queries.

The class with the highest attendance at the end of every week is awarded the attendance trophy during Friday’s Award & Recognition assembly.

"We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” Isaac Newton BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner.

There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be introduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certificate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week.

Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel above

Week commencing 7th September – BRAVERY (Displaying habits of courage, leadership, experimentation, risk-taking and optimism).

Week commencing 14th September – Resourcefulness (Displaying habits of remembering, recycling, scavenging, questioning and reasoning).

Resourcefulness

At home and school:

Being able to use the things around us to best effect and being creative about how we use items. The children could use items around the house to create a piece of art or make junk models. We should also be encouraging our children to re-cycle as many items as possible.

What could we use this box for instead of throwing it away?

• Schools starts at 8.45am, it is important that your child arrives on time every day so that the teachers can start the lesson promptly. The school gate will be open from 8.25am and will close at 8.45am.

Wisepay DetailsWisepay details have been given to everyone now, which will allow you to book a place for ‘Breakfast Club’ or ‘After School Club’. Payments must be made in advance. If you experience any problems, please contact Ms Rayner or Ms Chaggar who will be happy to help.

Breakfast is available each day from 7.45am and costs just £2 per day. The children enjoyarangeofcereals,toastanddifferenttopping,juiceormilkandfruit.Anychildattendingmustbebroughttothemainreceptionareaby8.20amatthelatest.

AfterSchoolClubrunsfrom3.45pm–6.00pm(3.00pm–6.00pmonTuesdays)andcosts £5 per hour. The children enjoy a range of snacks each evening and a variety of games and activities.
