Newsletter/P ā nui 19 16 November 2017 Kia ora whanau, One week and one day until the Mega Fair! We are beginning the final countdown so there is lots going on at school. Thank you for all the chocolate on mufti day - your response was fantastic and will keep the Chocolate Wheel spinning all night! Next week we will be asking you to fill a lolly basket and bake a cake for the cake stall. It is getting so exciting and will be fantastic so hopefully the sun will shine. Fingers crossed for good weather. Thank you everyone for sharing the Fair Poster on Facebook and promoting the fair to all the community. This year for the first time we are having a combined fair with OLA so it will be a bit different but twice the fun! How it works? All Hoon Hay parents should purchase their tickets from Hoon Hay School to ensure this money stays with Hoon Hay School. The tickets being sold by each school are colour coded so it is clear which school the tickets were purchased from – and where the proceeds stay. If you buy from Hoon Hay and spend at OLA then at the end of the night OLA will return that money to us, and we will do exactly the same for them. Both schools are expecting their parent community to purchase directly from their school. Where we both hope to make “loads” of money is from the community who can purchase from any stall, anywhere and we will accept their tickets (regardless of colour) most gratefully:) There will be pre - selling of tickets during the week so you don’t have to join queues at the start of the fair when it is so busy! Instead you can whip round and buy all the bargains! Please remember that parking is difficult and we would suggest that you park a little further away eg. Samuel Street, Gainsborough St etc so closer parks can be available for older members of our community - who just love a good white elephant stall :)

It is a busy time and we appreciate your support so much - remember all of the funds raised go into supporting our children. This year the PTA has subsidised camps, bus travel, contributed money towards purchasing new sports uniforms (that will be delivered next year) and the lovely picnic tables that we all get to enjoy. The money that we raise at the fair will go towards replacing outdated data projectors with smart TV’s. We are so appreciative of the support that you give us, as a staff, by helping to provide the sorts of things that enrich learning in the 21st Century. So thank you for supporting the fair. Your efforts make a huge difference. There will be people reading this newsletter who want to help out. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at the office or pop onto www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and log on with the code tth5e. We try to organise our help in shifts so you will certainly get the opportunity to see your children perform and to have a look around and hopefully buy lots! The children have been busy as bees putting the finishing touches to their creations that will be on sale. They can’t wait to sell them to you. This has been such a great way to ensure that the children are contributing to the fundraising to make things better for them. It is all part of belonging and participating. See you on Friday at 4:30! White Elephant – We would love to receive your goods - in good condition, clean and in working order. NO ELECTRICAL ITEMS PLEASE. Drop off times are: Monday 20th November between 8:30am - 9:30am Wednesday 22nd November between 3pm - 4pm Thursday 23rd November between 6pm - 7pm Friday 24th anytime between 8:30am and 2:30pm Lolly Basket - Your child will be bringing an empty Lolly Basket on Monday. It would be appreciated if you could please send it back to your child’s class on Wednesday 22 November. It can be homemade sweets or bought sweets. If you could also cover any unwrapped sweets (gladwrap is fine) that would be great. Please note this is an optional activity. If you are able to donate some baking for our cake stall. Please bring it along to our school hall on Friday morning. It would be helpful if you could have everything covered and ready for sale and also itemise the ingredients for those with any allergies. This is also optional J Thank you in advance for all your help! BOT Elections - By now you will have received the Election Nomination Form - just a reminder that nominations close this Friday, 17 November at noon. This is Canterbury Show Day and all nominations need to be at CES by that time so please factor that into your planning. A reminder that school is closed tomorrow, Friday, for Show Day, so have a safe and happy long weekend! Ngā mihi nui, Tōfā soifua

Meet Hezekiah – our Resident Gardening Expert! Meet Hezekiah, our gardening guru. He knows a lot about gardening, and is enjoying working with David our Caretaker to spruce up the school grounds. Here he is pictured with his favourite tool - the leaf blower!

What else do we get up to? Grace and Mia S are pictured here with their Certificates for: St John Green Level and Kiwiana Certificates (Certificates of Excellence - enthusiasm and hard work at Division).

TEAM HARAKEKE ATHLETICS Team Harakeke held their athletics day on Thursday 9th November. Children could be seen giving the field events a try; jumping far and high and also discovering the technique of discus. Fantastic to see parents cheering children on from the sidelines. The running races were quick down the sprint track, with the fastest 6, 7 and 8 year olds collecting a ribbon over the finish line. TOUCH RUGBY

Our seven touch rugby teams are now into week five of the competition. Teams have been gaining some varied results and having a lot of fun in the sunshine. Children are improving their skills each week and learning the importance of teamwork. If you want to catch some action head to Centennial Park on a Thursday between 4pm-6pm to will see Hoon Hay shirts all over the park.

Emma CL makes a break for team Thunder

0 win

HH Hurricanes vs HH Force - (close game 2-1)
