Movember 2014

We would like to thank our sponsors for Movember this year. So far we have been sponsored $630 which will go towards the Movember charity focus - Men's Health. Are you wondering why we have half mos in the photo? The challenge was set with a few days of Movember to go- if we were spon-sored $500 we would shave half our mos off. Suffice to say, the donations came rolling in! The Half Mo Bros Sherif and Andy (with moral support from Glenn and Mark)

ELECTION DAY BBQ THANKS Well we certainly proved to be hot and popular sizzling parents. A steady stream of customers kept us entertained as we pulled in the cash. Options of white and whole-meal bread reinforced that we were in the Northcote electorate as we slapped on 80kgs of sausage. A profit of $1654 was made.

Many thanks to Lisa, Max, Anton, Libby, Stefan, Clare, Kym, Ian, Katrina, Kieran, Rebecca, Lori and James. It wouldn't have happened without you and you may now rejoice in the knowledge that you have done your bit (again)! The big greasy smiling sausage.

School Council Report - November 2014

Judy McKinty or the Play Lady as she is more commonly known has collected some wonderful insights and knowledge from the students about how they play, which areas of the school they feel safe in and the types of activities they enjoy during recess and lunch times. The Environment Sub-Committee of School Council will use this information in the formulation of the Master Plan and in future planning of the outdoor learning and play spaces. Judy will be presenting her findings at School Council, early next year.

The new 2015 handbook for OSHC is available at the Office. A reminder to parents that all students need to be re-enrolled at the beginning of each year and the Set and Forget Option makes payment very easy. The OSHC Committee would like to acknowledge the hard work of Mike and Maria in running a very successful OSHC program.

School Council endorsed a new policy on the Prevention of Bullying (Staff and Community Members). This supports the existing Prevention of Bullying (Students) policy.

Workplace bullying is repeated, unreasonable behaviour directed towards an employee, group of employees or a community member that creates a risk to health and safety. All staff and community members have a responsibility to prevent bullying and to report any instance of alleged bullying. All reports of workplace bullying will be treated seriously and prompt intervention taken to investigate and resolve the issue.

Council also endorsed new privacy and confidentiality policies.

The Privacy Policy supports the school’s need to collect and store some personal and health information. The school will use and store personal information carefully. On request, access will be given to any personal information held by the school.

The Confidentiality Policy makes clear that the protection of confidentiality is a serious responsibility for the school. Staff, parent volunteers and others should not disclose personal information about students, families or staff unless there is a legal or compelling reason to do so.

Copies of all policies will be available on the school’s website.

Invitation to Parent Helpers Morning Tea Tuesday 16th December

Kitchen Garden area at 10.30am

If you have helped out in any capacity around the school, please come and join the staff for morning tea on this day. It is our opportunity to celebrate your wonderful contributions to the life of the school. Grade 6 students will be assisting Betty in cooking, plating and serving the morning tea. This will be their last occasion to practise their amazing hospitality skills that they have learnt in the Kitchen Garden over the last 4 years. We all look forward to seeing you there. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………...

End of Year Concert Thursday 11th December 2014 9:30am

End Of Year Concert – The End of Year Concert will be held on Thursday 11th December. It’s a chance to celebrate the end of the year as the whole school joins together in song. I have done my best to answer some FAQs regarding the concert. I hope the weather is kind to us on the day and that you can all attend. The students are sounding great and are very excited. What time does the concert start and how long will it go for? The concert will start at approximately 9:30am and will run for about one hour. Where is the concert being held? The concert will be held on the tiger turf on the Brooke St campus. The stage will be set up in the shady corner and the children will sit in front of the stage. The audience will sit behind the students on the tiger turf. You may like to bring a picnic blanket or cushion. There will be some chairs provided at the back but if you need to sit in a chair it would be a good idea to bring your own. Do the children need to wear a costume? The children are free to dress up if they wish but there is no set costume. They might like to dress in festive clothes (keeping in mind that it may be hot and Santa hats may not be the best thing to keep cool) or dress as something to do with one of the songs they are singing. There are songs ranging from Zulu Warriors to Egyptian Mummies so check with your child about what they are singing if you need ideas. It is not essential that they dress up. While the children are waiting their turn to perform, they must wear a sun smart hat. Can you give me an exact time that my child will be performing? Unfortunately I cannot. This year the concert will have year levels performing in random order rather than in year level order. This makes for a more interesting concert for students and the audience. Please support our students by staying until the end of the show. The final act needs just as much audience as the opening act. Who can come? The concert is for family members. The tiger turf is a large area but please bear in mind that we are a large school with a large number of families. We have decided to hold the concert outdoors so we do not have to limit the number of people from each family that can attend but please let commonsense prevail when deciding who should attend from your family. When do I take my seat? The day will start as normal with children attending morning assembly then going inside for the teacher to mark the roll. Once this is done, the students will begin to assemble outside. It would be best for audience members to leave the Brooke St tiger turf area after morning assembly and come back at about 9:25am. This will ensure that the children get settled quickly and the concert can start on time. Should I clap loudly and sing along if I know the words? Yes! Please sing along even if you don’t know the words. If you have any other questions or concerns do not hesitate to call and ask. See you on Thursday the 11th of December. Cheers, John Carr.
