Opening this Week
This week third yeardirector Michael SocratesMoran's thesis production ofHAMLET opens.
Charged toward vengeance bythe ghost of his murderedfather and King, Hamlet seeksto cleanse Elsinore of itsimmoral madness by realigning the Shakespeareancosmos and spirituallypurifying a hypersecularized, narcissistic and politicallycorrupt world without killinghimself or being killed. In this exploration of the playdirector Michael Socrates
Moran casts Hamlet as an artist and pursues the artisticpower to render the metaphysical and mythical realms
manifest in such a manner for Elsinore to reckon with. Thisproduction seeks to reflect a contemporary, competitiveculture where we give high value to achievement, status andcomfort and are perhaps in need of Hamlet to reconnect uswith our unpleasant depths, denied darknesses and revealthe destructive madness of which we remain unaware. In theterrifying face of death, Hamlet's legendary delay and selfwrestling may also be the selfreflection necessary totransform his princely 'perturbed spirit' into the paradoxicalserenity of valor and surrender characteristic of anarchetypal kinga kingliness we may all need in today'sworld.
