Congregacion Bautista Ebenezer Santa Emilia

While saddened that we will not join our Nicaraguan brothers and sisters in the

village of Santa Emilia, Nicaragua next week, we celebrate our common mission and work. At the end of 2017, the FBC Mission Council awarded a mission grant from our United Mission Fund to complete the church (Temple) in Santa Emilia.

When we first began holding clinics on this space over 8 years ago, there was barely a foundation of concrete to hold worship services and Sunday School. Over the years, the church has slowly built a roof and created more space for the congregation. Our Mission Grant provided the final funds for the completion of the building. Not only did the location body of believers volunteer and assist in this construction, the funds we provided also

provided jobs for construction workers in the village.

In mission terminology, we are assisting an indigenous baptist congregation of Christians as they become self-sufficient. Our philosophy of partnership allows for the mission of God to continue during the years we cannot return and long after our last mission trip. These pictures

remind us that the God is bigger than us and is working around the world to draw people to Jesus.

Thank you for your generous contributions to the Unified Mission Offering each week and for your daily prays for our brothers and sister in

CAMP AGAPE ON THE ROAD MIAMI TEAM

Here are some ways you participate in this mission trip: Write notes of encouragement; text team members during the week; pray daily for our CAMP AGAPE ON THE ROAD MIAMI TEAM which will leave here on July 6 and return on July 14. We will be working with a ministry called TOUCHING MIAMI WITH LOVE in the Overtown section of Miami.

Our hearts are breaking for Nicaragua as

our Newsletter goes to press. Due to the continued escalation of the violence in Nicaragua we were forced to cancel our June 2-9 Mission Trip to Nicaragua. The situation in Matagalpa (like the rest of the country) is just too unstable for us to try to go. More young people have died in the streets of Matagalpa at the hands of the government. As much as our hearts ache to be able to go and help, in the current situation there is really not much we can do to help in person. In fact, our presence would possibly create more risk for our friends and loved ones there.

As sad as it makes us not to be able to go, our hearts break even more for those we love in Nicaragua. In the past we have read the history of the bloody civil war of the 1980s, but somehow that seems less personal. However, to now read and see videos of blood again being spilled among people we know and love, and on streets where we’ve walked brings a much deeper sadness and hurt. Here are some specific things that we need to pray for:

• Pray for peace and an end to the violence there.

• Pray for those who are grieving the loss of loved ones there.

• Pray for those involved in the “dialogue” scheduled to begin Wednesday.

• Pray for those on both sides of the barricades: the students, police and the government leaders.

• Pray for Pastor Javier, his family, and the members of FBC Matagalpa and their congregations in the surrounding communities (including Santa Emila), for their safety and for God to use them even in this crisis for His glory!

• Pray for the Vybirals, Brenda and the MVI staff there.

• Pray for Debra and Roy Seyferth in Santa Emilia.

• Pray for the staff and children at the re-nutrition center as they have had difficulty getting food and supplies there in recent days.

• Pray for the Alvarado family (in Matagalpa, Chinandega and Grenada) and the ministries they are involved with.

• ...I know there are others...

• Finally, pray for God to show us specific ways that we can help!

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27

WEDNESDAY EVENINGS

for children and families, and I hope you will come and be a part of it all!

We will not meet in the evenings on Wednesdays

during the summer months. This gives our volunteers some much deserved rest, and allows families time together doing fun, family things.

We will have two WOW WEDNESDAYS a month in June and July to give our children the opportunity to get together to play and socialize. This will be the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of each month: June 13th & June 27, July 11 & July 25. I am working to create one free event and one paid event for each month. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on events your child would like to participate in. Some ideas I am looking into include: INK, Splash Park, Greenville Zoo, Fishing, and more. Follow Wild Kingdom Children’s Ministry on Facebook OR sign up for the children’s ministry text messages for all of the details. To sign up for text messages, simply text FBCCCHILD to the number 41411.

You will NOT want to miss MOSAIC Arts Camp this summer, June 18-22. We will be serving children in our community and church family ages 3 years old - completed 6th grade. Register online or by mail by June 11th. We will not have a seperate VBS event this year - it will be combined with MOSAIC Arts Camp.

In June our Elementary aged children will be learning all about CONFIDENCE: Living like you believe what God says is true. God is stronger than anyone and He can do things that would be

impossible for you or me. He has proved this throughout history, but nowhere is this more evident than in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Because of what Jesus has done, we can have confidence . And when you put your faith in Jesus, you can live fully alive. Our memory verse will be Psalm 27:13, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”

I am AMPED about

the summer, are you? We will have lots of fun activities

Our preschool children will be answering the question, “What tells me which way to go?”

Have you ever used a compass to show you which way to go? They’re great for helping you on a hike, but not as great when

we’re trying to figure out which way to go in life. We need the Bible for that. This month, we’re going to start our ride through the Bikes and Trikes theme as we teach our preschoolers that the Bible tells us which way to go. How wonderful would it be if our preschoolers grew up using the Bible as their compass as they ride through life! Our preschoolers will spend this summer learning that the BIBLE tells us which way to GO! Our memory verse is Psalm 25:4, “Show me the right path O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.”

I hope you will join us this summer for some super energetic, memory-making fun!

In reading the new church history book I came across the following which confirmed some initial observations about FBC Cornelia:

In addition to the mission emphasis , another area that has been a significant one for the church has been in the field of music. Through the ages and throughout the world music has been an important part of worship services and the Baptist Church in Cornelia was no exception. (p. 9)

I consider it an honor and great blessing to be a part of such a rich, ongoing heritage of missions and music ministry.

I am writing these words out of my own reflection upon the blessings that have come my way through friendship with our senior members, as well as many who I know beyond our church family. These are people I treasure because my journey through this portion of life would be very empty without them. Like Paul, I acknowledge an indebtedness to each of them.

My window of reflection broadens now to claim the setting for these years together. We must live very close to the center of weather-heaven. Our mild winters cause us little trouble. Our springs arrive bringing vast blankets of green foliage followed by a rainbow of diversity when the flowers join the parade. If you can find a break in your evening schedule, take an exploratory drive through the backroads of our area. You will find scenic valleys marked by mountain vistas rich enough to bring water to your eyes.

Put your regional blessings alongside those you know to love and the result is an outpouring of fresh gratitude to our Heavenly Father.

Where does gratitude take us? For me, I am suddenly aware of the lesson that is so obvious as to be forgotten. We are granted a stewardship toward all that enriches our journey.

Biblically we are made aware that any portion of land to which we lay claim, isn’t really our property. We are simply granted use of that land for the duration of our days. There is something extraordinarily freeing when you and I view all or our so-called possessions as a gift God has granted to us. Christian stewardship is such a rich concept that it enables us to approach all things and all others with a sacredness most people do not understand.

In these past days we have all had experiences of loss that have caused me to revisit every aspect of my journey, my friends, my family, my church friends, and all others who pass through my world–these are to be celebrated. I am invited to welcome all who slave the road with me. They are God’s children. During this summer we will all see new faces, perhaps at outdoor gatherings. Let those new faces become new friends and your summer will surely honor the Father who has provided it all for our enjoyment.

As to our senior activities for the summer, I am still awaiting information I need before I can issue you an invitation. I will use these summer months to prepare for good times starting in August. Be a “Force For Good” as you serve God this summer.

Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for all the prayers, calls, cards, food, gifts, visits that you lavished on me after my fall and during my convalescence. As always, you go beyond “generous”. You have showered me and my family with Christian Love for 70 years and I appreciate it so much. I love everyone of you and appreciate all that you do .

Dear Eric, Thank you for sending me a copy of your church’s pictorial history book , First Baptist Church Cornelia, Georgia, 1887-2017; 130 Years of Being the People of God. Congratulations to all of you upon publication of this book. The time it took to compile all of the information and pictures is truly a labor of love. It is a magnificent book.
