Water Pollution Maeve and Gabrielle from the Hillary Hub have made this poster as part of their inquiry into Water Pollution. One of their actions was to go down to the river and pick up rubbish.

Mana Ake – Stronger for Tomorrow This term our school has, through the Catholic Community of Learning, come on board with Mana Ake – Stronger for Tomorrow. Mana Ake promotes wellbeing and positive mental health for children in school years 1-8 across Canterbury. Teachers are able to refer individuals and groups to Mana Ake and we always gain parent permission before doing so. We have 3 people attached to our school. We have Eve Penny a youth worker, Matt Brown a counsellor and Ingrid Ewing-Daff a counsellor working with us. Eve, Matt and Ingrid visited us for the first time last week and were introduced to our students and staff. We look forward to getting to know them better and working alongside them in our school. For further information about Mana Ake please click here.

Sheppard & Hillary Team Mass

The Sheppard and Hillary Teams will be celebrating Mass on Sunday 26th May at 10:30am at Halswell Church. All families are warmly invited to attend. The children can wear mufti to this Mass.

School Closed - Wednesday 29th May The Board of Trustees has made the decision to close our school on Wednesday 29th May due to Health and Safety reasons while our teaching staff are on strike. The means that there will be no staff on site and all the buildings will be closed. We understand that this may create some difficulties for you and thank you for your understanding.

Cross Country Thanks to Manuela Schmidt, Amanda Campbell and all the staff, parents and children who worked to make our Cross Country day an amazing day. We were so proud of all our children and how they participated and supported each other! A special thank you to our PALS (Physical Activity Leaders) for leadership and support on the day. Congratulations and good luck to those students who will be going on to Zones.

Catholic Winters sports day Y5 & 6 photos Our Year 5 and 6 students had a great day last Thursday playing Rippa Rugby, Hockey, Netball and Soccer against other Christchurch Catholic Schools. Many thanks to those parents who managed teams and refereed games – without your generous support we could not have gone!

Parent Help Required We still require parents to assist with managing sports teams, in particular a soccer team. If you can help please email our sports co-ordinator on [email protected]

Great Kiwi Competition Entry Forms Due in 18th May

A reminder that completed entry forms (together with the entry fee) need to be handed in to the office by 9a.m. Monday 20th May 2019. Please click here for a copy of the entry form or you can pick up a hardcopy from the office.

Pink Shirt Day On Friday the Young Vinnie’s Group will be holding a Pink Shirt Anti Bullying Day. The children can wear a pink shirt with black track pants or green sports shorts. Please do not buy a pink shirt, you can borrow one or just wear the normal school sports shirt.

School Production We will be holding a school production this year in September. An exact date has not been finalised but we will let you know once it is confirmed. The production involves all of our students and is a wonderful opportunity for each child to experience being “on stage”.

Absentees With the winter season making its presence felt we are seeing a rise in the number of absent students. Please remember to contact the school office if your child is away from school. We need to know your child’s name, room number and reason for absence. You can notify us by using the App or by leaving a message on our answer phone.
