With this in mind Police have identified that this time of year shows an increase in suspicious activity around schools in relation to students being approached by people not known to them. This email is designed to provide simple safety advice to children, young people, schools and communities with regard to the risks associated with children being approached by people they don’t know who offer lifts or invite them towards a vehicle. Police advise students to walk to school in groups whenever possible and avoid routes that are out of sight from the general public. Police strongly support schools operating walking school buses and it is recommended to utilise these facilities whenever possible. However, if approached by someone they don’t know children should be advised the following. Decline any invitation and move away from the person and vehicle immediately. If possible they should seek out other students/ known people and if safe, take a note of what the person looks like, a description of the vehicle and the registration number. Once at their destination children should be encouraged to report the incident immediately to a teacher or parent and write down what they saw and heard whilst fresh in their memory. Also if a vigilant teacher or parent notices someone acting suspiciously around students they should take note of the person and vehicle description and any identifying features. School staff and parents are advised to contact Police on 111 straight away and provide whatever information they can on this type of behavior, no matter how vague. Police can act on this and possibly identify patterns and trends based on the smallest bit of information. MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL STUDENT SAFETY

All schools and families endeavour to keep their children safe while walking around their communities. There is a delicate balance to be maintained between having students move around confidently and enabling them to recognise a potentially dangerous situation. With this in mind I am passing on the message below, sent recently by the School Community Policing Supervisor, Sergeant Neil Tapley, NZ Police. I trust that this will prompt some discussion with your children about safe interaction with people out in our streets and playgrounds. Judy Parr Police are committed to ensure New Zealand children and young people are able to live and learn free from harm. Family and Friends have been busy organising the Term 4 activities. Attitude of Gratitude is in its final week. This a fundraiser by our Year 6 students to give back to the school before they head off to Intermediate. If you see them out selling chocolates please help them out. It is for a good cause as they will be using the money to buy school resources of their choice. Last year this was chromebooks for the classrooms. We also have a Year 6 Graduation T-Shirt designed by the students. These go on sale to Year 6 students within the week so they will have plenty of time to wear their T-Shirts before school ends. The design is great and we look forward to seeing the T-Shirts around the school on our graduating students.

Descriptive Poetry In the hall are Old faded paintings hanging crookedly in the hall Colourless shattered glass broken from the door Dented misshapen floorboards creaking noisily Green ugly wallpaper ripped off the walls And the only sound Is the squeaky swing, in the wind

In the cellar are Dusty stuck clocks ticking creepily Rusty gold jewelry lying in a rotten box Broken yellow light switches struggling to turn on And the only sound Is the last drops of hail

In the attic are Torn soggy boxes storing old memories Ripped mouldy curtains hanging from the rails Cracked dusty skeletons of old owners Black scratched records waiting to be played And the only sound Is the echoing footsteps of a nearby ghost

Dallas Doctor Dallas from Room 24 trialled for the Auckland Maori Rugby League Under 10 Team with over 100 boys trialling at Mountford Park in South Auckland in July this year. He made the top Under 10 Team for Auckland with only nineteen boys being selected. This is the first time he has every played Rugby League.

Dallas' team competed in four separate competitions including the Four Nations, Rangatahi Festival, Hopu Hopu Competition in Ngaruawahia and, finally, the Iwi of Origin Competition at Bruce Pulman Park two weeks ago.

The team won every single game in every competition. Definitely a talented group of boys.

Cara Tang Cara from Room 6 has recently competed in the Bays School of Dance Competition winning four first place trophies for: Restricted Under 8 years Jazz Solo Open 7 years Jazz Solo Open Jazz Duo under 10 years Restricted Jazz Championship Under 10 years

The Middle School held their annual sports day on Tuesday. We began with a rotation of athletics finals and a variety of other challenges, including Mrs King’s Obstacle Course of Awesomeness which has become something of a legend in the Middle School. In the afternoon we held our sprint finals and class relays. The rain stayed away and a fabulous time was had by all. Many thanks to the parents (and grandparent) who helped us out. We are very grateful to all of you for your support.
