Together with Usboure Books we held a ‘Ready Steady Read’ Initia-tive this year to help fill our new library with bright new books for all the children to enjoy. The

money raised by each child was split in half, the first half went to the school library fund and the second half was returned to the child

in the form of an Usbourne gift voucher. The school also received an additional donation to the value of 60% of the total amount raised by the children from Usbourne Books to add to their school library fund. In total we received £3228!!! worth of books for the school library. The new library will soon be ready and the children will be able to enjoy the new books!

There St Patricks Day Disco was a fun evening for the kids! Sparky Marky’s disco with laser beams was a great hit with the kids! It was a shame that we had to change the

format again, due to the limited interest from the Junior children. We are trying hard to find an event that will interest the junior children, so if you have any ideas or feedback that can help, please let us know!

On Good Friday, April 6th we held an Easter Eggstravaganza at Cefn Onn Park. The weather held so the event went ahead

as planned. Overall a good time was had by all the children taking part, however we were sabotaged by hungry squirrels and complete strangers who both helped themselves to the Easter treats before the hunt began. This was

all resolved thanks to the Easter bunny leaving spares!. The hunt ended in the field at the top of the park, with refreshments games and a traditional Easter bonnet / mask parade and competition. The winners were Lauren Brown (Yr1) for her mask and Seren Jones (Nursery) and Harvey Bedford (yr1) for their Bonnets. Thanks to Tony and Sian Sage for all their hard work in organising the hunt!

We ’re go i n g o n a n E g g H u n t !

On Friday 1st June, we celebrated the diamond jubilee with a special yard party for the children at lunch time and the nursery children during their morning / afternoon. Thank-fully the rain held off and we could go ahead with the party outdoors. The PTA provided a lunch, kindly prepared by the kitchen staff and the chil-dren made crowns and

hats and lots of bunting! The yard was decorated with flags, paper chains, bunting and even a few Welsh guards! There were even three Union Jacks formed from red, white and blue cup cakes. We received a phenomenal amount of support for this from parents, with offers of help with mak-

ing cakes and bunting, thank you to everyone for helping! Our thanks to the kitchen staff for preparing the lunch and to Hovis for donating the bread for the sandwiches. We also made the local press with photographs of the children enjoying their lunch in the South Wales Echo on the Friday and the following Saturday and Thursday. There was also an article on Wales online / your Cardiff! The party was enjoyed by all the children and the thank-you cards they made brought a tear to our eyes. All credit to Ellen for organising this unforgettable event! Each of the children also received a commemorative wrist band. If your child did not received one, more are available.

Mother’s Day Sale

The Mother’s Day Sale was a new event this year and enjoyed by children and parents alike. There was a lovely atmosphere, with the children giggling and sneaking their gifts away, while Mums relaxed over a cup of coffee and tried not to get a sneak peek! There were a number of gift stalls but also a

child's craft area, where they sat and made their own personalised gift for Mum! Thanks to Lynne for suggesting and organising this event!

Well done to the Thornhill boys who did so well at our first north Cardiff Football tournament on 27th April by being win-ners of their group; Ysgol y Wern won the overall tournament. A great day had by all - thanks to Cardiff City for putting on the event and thanks in particular to Jacqui Brown for presenting a

very special trophy in honour of her late father - the Cardiff City legend Brian Clark. Thanks to Lynne, Mel and Terrina for organising this day.

The weather held out for us in the end and the Spring Fayre was a great success. Thanks to all the parents for your positive feed-back on the day and on our face-book page after, it is great to

know that the kids enjoyed themselves. There was plenty to keep the kids entertained with a bouncy slide and castle, lots of games, face painting, photo shoot, circus skills workshop and not forgetting Paddy the Clown who had

us all in stitches or for the few unlucky ones covered in foam!... There was a Pimms and pints bar, a BBQ, cafe corner with cakes galore and lots of stalls to peruse. Thank you to all our volunteers who helped out on the day – guides, parents, teachers, staff and pupils - without you we couldn’t put on such great events! And thanks for all the donated cakes!
