Preparation Please use this time to listen to the musical offering

Seasonal Sentence Look up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. Luke 21.28

The Gathering of The Community (Page 230) Celebrant: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: And with thy spirit.

Celebrant: Let us pray. All: Almighty God, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Summary of the Law Celebrant: Our Lord Jesus Christ said: hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. All: Lord, have mercy upon us, and write both these thy laws in our hearts, we beseech thee.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. The Gloria Glory be to God on high, and in earth peace, good will towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly king, God the Father almighty.

O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sin of the world, receive our prayer.

Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us. For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The Collect (Page 392) Deacon: Let us pray Almighty God, you sent your Son Jesus Christ to be the light of the world. Free us from all that darkens and ensnares us, and bring us to eternal light and joy; through the power of him who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. All: Amen. The First Reading: ISAIAH 65:17-25 For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress. No more shall there be in it an infant that lives but a few days, or an old person who does not live out a lifetime; for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth, and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed. They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labour in vain, or bear children for calamity; for they shall be offspring blessed by the Lord and their descendants as well. Before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox; but the serpent its food shall be dust! They shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, says the Lord. Reader: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. The Second Reading: 2 THESSALONIANS 3:6-13 Now we command you, beloved in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from believers who are living in idleness and not according to the tradition that they received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you, and we did not eat anyone's bread without paying for it; but with toil and labour we worked night and day, so that we might not burden any of you. This was not because we do not have that right but in order to give you an example to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: Anyone unwilling to work should not eat. For

we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work. Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. Brothers and sisters, do not be weary in doing what is right. Reader: The Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God. The Gospel Reader: The Lord be with you. All: And with thy spirit.

Reader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke (21:5-19) All: Glory be to thee, O Lord. When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, Jesus said, "As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down." They asked him, "Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?" And he said, "Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, 'I am he!' and, 'The time is near!' Do not go after them. When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately." Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues; and there will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven. But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. This will give you an opportunity to testify. So make up your minds not to prepare your defence in advance; for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls." Reader: The Gospel of Christ. All: Praise be to thee, O Christ. The Apostles’ Creed (Page 251) I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The Prayers Of The People….Today’s Cycle of Prayer Leadership… Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury, Fred our Primate, Colin,

Come unto me all that labour and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you. Matthew 1.28

God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, to the end that all that believe in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3.16

Hear also what Saint Paul saith. This is a true saying, and worthy of all to be received, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1.15

Hear also what Saint John saith. If anyone sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2.1,2

Let us humbly confess our sins to almighty God.

All: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things and judge of all people: we acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness, which we from time to time most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, against thy divine majesty. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, to the honour and glory of thy name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Celebrant: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto him: have mercy upon you; pardon and deliver you from all your sins; confirm and strengthen you in all goodness; and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All: Amen. The Peace Celebrant: The Peace of the Lord be always with you. All: And with thy spirit.

Please greet one another with a sign of peace.

Prayer over The Gifts (Page 393) Celebrant: Let us pray. Holy God, in this eucharist we renew our baptismal covenant. Help us, through our offering this day, to renounce all things that draw us from your love. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. All: Amen. Eucharistic Prayer B (Page 243) Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And with thy spirit.

Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up unto the Lord.

Celebrant: Let us give thanks unto our Lord God. People: It is meet and right so to do.

It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God, creator and preserver of all things.

For thou art the fountain of light and life for all thy creation: thou hast made us in thine own image, and dost raise us to new life in Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious name; evermore praising thee and saying: All: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Glory be to thee, O Lord most high. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

Please kneel or sit as you are able.

Celebrant: Blessing and glory and thanksgiving be unto thee, almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of thy tender mercy didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to take our nature upon him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption; who made there, by his one oblation of himself once offered, a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memorial of that his precious death, until his coming again.

Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech thee; and grant that we receiving these thy creatures of bread and wine, according to thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ’s holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed body and blood; who, in the same night

Page 9: Holy Trinity Church, Thornhill - Holy Trinity Thornhill · Holy Trinity Church, Thornhill Established in 1830 140 rooke Street, Thornhill, ON L4J 1Y9 Phone: 905 889 5931 Fax: 905

that he was betrayed, took bread; and, when he had given thanks, he brake it; and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my body which is Given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise after supper he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink ye all, of this; for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the remission of sins: Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Wherefore, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, we thy humble servants, with all thy holy Church, remembering the precious death of thy beloved Son, his mighty resurrection, and Glorious ascension, and looking for his coming again in glory, do make before thee, in this sacrament of the holy bread of eternal life and the cup of everlasting salvation, the memorial which he hath commanded: All: We praise thee, we bless thee, we thank thee, and we pray to thee, Lord our God.

And we entirely desire thy fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, most humbly beseeching thee to grant, that by the merits and death of thy Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in his blood, we and all thy whole Church may obtain remission of our sins, and all other benefits of his passion; And we pray that by the power of thy Holy Spirit, all we who are partakers of this holy communion may be fulfilled with thy grace and heavenly benediction; through Jesus Christ our Lord, by whom and with whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer Celebrant: And now, as our Saviour Christ hath taught us, we are bold to say, People: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread Celebrant: Alleluia! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; People: Therefore, let us keep the feast. Alleluia! O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us.

Page 10: Holy Trinity Church, Thornhill - Holy Trinity Thornhill · Holy Trinity Church, Thornhill Established in 1830 140 rooke Street, Thornhill, ON L4J 1Y9 Phone: 905 889 5931 Fax: 905

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: grant us thy peace.

Celebrant: The Gifts of God for the People of God. All: Thanks be to God.

Communion Interlude (Will Praise The Lord) Prayer after Communion (Page 248) Celebrant: Let us pray, All: We most heartily thank thee, almighty and everliving God, That thou dost graciously feed us, in these holy mysteries, With the spiritual food of the most precious body and blood Of thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ; Assuring us thereby of thy favour and goodness towards us; And that we are living members of his mystical Body, Which is the blessed company of all faithful people; And are also heirs through hope of thy everlasting kingdom. And we humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father, So to assist us with thy grace, That we may continue in that holy fellowship, And do all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; Through Jesus Christ our Lord, To whom, with thee and the Holy Spirit, be all honour and glory, World without end. Amen.

Processional Hymn 370 Songs Of Praise (vv. 1,3,4,6) Songs of praise the angels sang, heaven with alleluias rang, When creation was begun, when God spoke and it was done.

Heav’n and earth must pass away; songs of praise shall crown that day. God will make new heavens and earth; songs of praise shall hail their birth.

And shall Christians fail to sing till on earth Christ come as King? No, the church delights to raise psalms and hymns and songs of praise.

Hymns of glory, songs of praise, Father, unto you we raise; Jesus, Saviour, living Word, with the Spirit, be adored.

The Father, of an infinite Majesty; Thine honourable, true, and only Son; Also the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.

Thou art the King of Glory, O Christ. Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father. When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man, thou didst not abhor the Virgin’s

womb. When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death, thou didst open the

kingdom of heaven to all believers. Thou sittest at the right hand of God, in the glory of the Father. We believe that thou shalt come to be our Judge. We therefore pray thee, help thy servants, whom thou hast redeemed with thy

precious blood. Make them to be numbered with thy Saints, in glory everlasting.

The Benedictus (St Luke 1. 68, page 9) Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited, and redeemed his people; And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us, in the house of his servant David; As he spake by the mouth of his holy Prophets, which have been since the world

began; That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hands of all that hate

us; To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers, and to remember his holy

covenant; To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather Abraham, that he would

grant us That we being delivered out of the hands of our enemies might serve him

without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. And thou, child, shalt be called the Prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go

before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people for the remission of their sins; Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the day-spring from on high

hath visited us; To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death, / and to

Anthem Gather at the River (Ruth Elaine Schram) Hymn 587 Once To Every Man And Nation

Once to every man and nation, comes the moment to decide, In the strife of truth with falsehood, for the good or evil side; Some great cause, God’s new Messiah, offering each the bloom or blight, And the choice goes by forever, 'twixt that darkness and that light.

By the light of burning martyrs, Christ, thy bleeding feet we track, Toiling up new Calvaries ever with the cross that turns not back. New occasions teach new duties; time makes ancient good uncouth; They must upward still and onward, who would keep abreast of truth.

Though the cause of evil prosper, yet ‘tis truth alone is strong; Though her portion be the scaffold, and upon the throne be wrong, Yet that scaffold sways the future, and, behind the dim unknown, Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above his own.

O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end; Be thou ever near me, my Master and my Friend. I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side, Nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my guide.

O let me feel thee near me; the world is ever near; I see the sights that dazzle, the tempting sounds I hear; My foes are ever near me, around me and within; But, Jesus, draw thou nearer, and shield my soul from sin.

O Jesus, thou hast promised to all who follow thee; That where thou art in glory there shall thy servant be; And, Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end! O give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend.

O let me see thy footmarks, and in them plant mine own: My hope to follow duly is in thy strength alone. O guide me, call me, draw me, uphold me to the end;

And then in heaven receive me, my Savior and my Friend.

Cure Thy children’s warring madness. Bend our pride to your control. Shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.
