June Reminders Good news -- the Clubhouse and pool will not be closed as planned

this month. The first floor carpet replacement and second floor repairs have been postponed until July. Specific dates will be posted as soon as they are available.

We are seeing more visitors as summer vacations begin. All residents

are asked to remind their quests of the rules for use of the community amenities. Anyone under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult when using the pool/hot tub and clubhouse activities (pool tables, exercise room, ping pong tables, darts). The most recent golf cart pamphlet from the Sheriff’s department states you need a license to operate a golf cart (therefore children under 15 years of age should not be driving golf carts even with an adult present). If you or a guest use the “noodles” at the pool, please place them back in the “noodle locker” when you finish using them. For safety reasons there should not be glass containers or food at pool side. Food may be consumed in the picnic area outside of the fenced pool area. When visiting the restrooms in wet swimwear, please use the door closest to the flag poles at the end of the building.

Activities seems to slow down during the summer but many are still

going on. Check your SOC newsletter for day and time. We still have breakfasts and luncheons during the summer. Plans are under way for the Fourth of July celebration.

Please stay safe as you enjoy summer. Judy Lott HOA President

Here are some of the Saddle Oak residents

who play on various teams: (rear, left to right)

Jim Otto, Charlie Parkinson, Debbie and David

Lennox. Angie Bauman and Ginger Pace are in

the front row, left to right. Of special interest

is that Angie Bauman has been playing on the

league since 1990! Not pictured are Al Carson,

Jet Presley, John DeShayes, Don Godwin, Erik

Hoiaas, Freddie Jackson, Tony Pace, Bob

Lyman, Frank Hodakowski and Wanda

Dubuque.

This year’s team, The Rebels, came in 2nd Place in the

league. Their names are inscribed on the 27-year-old

bowling trophy in the Library. As you can see, many

different SOCers have played on the league since 1990.

Ginger Pace is stepping down after 10 years as

Secretary for the League to further embrace her

retirement and spend more time with new activities. Since Ginger’s replacement does not reside in

Saddle Oak, there may be no more coverage in the

Newsletter on Bowling events. SOC residents may

still join the League by calling the AMF Galaxy

Lanes – 352-732-0300 - at the end of September.

I love my Mom. She doesn’t just feed me lunch or

dinner when I see her, she feeds my soul. She gave

me roots to stand firm on and dreams and hopes

that go beyond the sky. Thank you, Mom.

Happy Mothers’ Day to all you Moms. I'm sure

you are all the best to someone, but mine couldn't

have been better for me. - Submitted by Family of

Vera Capes

“My father is so very quiet, he speaks more in

the 40 years of family photo albums. He is a

paradox, all his life a hard-working, blue-

collar worker and, probably, like many other

men, saw action at the start of WWII, also

joined the Merchant Marines. But he was

also a ballroom dancer, and his heart was so

full of generosity. He would leave presents on

the doorsteps of fatherless neighbors, took in

an inner-city child for a summer, and taught

me generosity at every turn. He has been the

best influence in my life, and telling folks

about him is just a small thing I can do for him

now.” From the family of Gail Palmer Pearce

of her father, Paul Palmer.

Each year the American Cancer Society holds its

Relay for Life at locations around Ocala. Led

by Joann Barber, several people from SOC

walked in support and sponsored luminaries in

honor and memory of friends and family who

are affected by cancer. Joann Barber says, “This

is my second year doing the Relay for Life in

Marion County, however I've been doing the

Breast Cancer Relay in Putnam County for

years. I do it to help further the cause for

research and a search for a cure, since cancer

has touched so many in my family.”

Susan DeWachter, who won the raffled

quilt, said “When you see the quality of

work that went into the creation of this

quilt, you have to understand that it

truly acknowledges and respects the

pain and trials that many different types

of cancer patients endure. That fact is

not lost on me, which is why I am so

personally thrilled to receive this.”

The theme for this

year's relay was "Send

Cancer Packing". We

saw brave hearts and

super heroes when the

many survivors walked

the track. How

appropriate since the

day of the race was on

both National

Bravehearts Day and

Super Heroes Day,

April 28th. What

STRENGTH!

Joann was part of the team "Captain

Paul's Crew", chaired by Fran Cousins in

honor of her son, Paul.

Every Saturday morning, from 8:00 am until a little after 9:00, SOCers gather for coffee and

chatting at our Clubhouse. The kitchen volunteers serve coffee, breakfast donuts and English

muffins and plenty of good cheer. Saturday Social is the perfect time and place to purchase

tickets for all upcoming events. A 50/50 raffle is also held, with three drawings. It is the perfect

venue to meet many new residents and keep up with announcements regarding current events.

There are clipboards lining the bulletin board to sign up for upcoming events and volunteer

opportunities, including boat and bus trips. Coffee ends with a thought for the day and a joke to

send people on their way. Please come and join us.

As you can see, many folks

love to attend this morning

social.

On the first Saturday of each month, our coffee

and donut is free. But SOCers feed the glass pig

with that coffee money to support Interfaith,

another favorite and year-round SOC charitable

effort. There is also a box in the Clubhouse

where food donations can be dropped off.

Birthdays and anniversaries for the month are

celebrated with song.
