What is MESA? MESA at DVC is a statewide program for full-time
students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics that provides a community of students, faculty and STEM professionals working
together to support and prepare students
who are pursuing STEM fields. The
program provides unique combination of enrichment activities, academic resources, major-specific advising, early exposure to four-year schools, professional development and other important needs of science and engineering majors. MESA is supported by industry, so students learn firsthand about career options and learn about scholarships, competitions, volunteering opportunities, internships and special programs.

MESA Sections are spots reserved for MESA students in certain STEM classes. The students’ progress are tracked so that they can get the intervention at the right time. To support the MESA students in their MESA Section classes, SI sessions have been scheduled. SI sessions run weekly for an hour and a half for each class and are led by Student Facilitators trained by the SI Faculty Facilitators. The Student Facilitators communicate with and update the Faculty Facilitators weekly to discuss status of students and possible improvements necessary. SI sessions are a mandatory requirement for all MESA Section students.
