7/29/2019 Newsletter Spring 2 2013 http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/newsletter-spring-2-2013 1/4  Helping children be the best they can be Dear Parents, Governors and Children, OUR NEXT HOLIDAY We break for half term on Friday 15th February at 3.30 p.m. and re-open on Monday 25th February at 8.45a.m. There are NO training days attached to this holiday. SPEAKING TO STAFF ABOUT YOUR CHILD We thought this might be a good time to remind you about our procedure for speaking to a member of staff about your child. In the first instance, please speak to your child’s Class Teacher if you have any concerns about either their behaviour or their work. If you are not able to resolve your concerns with the teacher, please ask for an appointment to speak to your child’s Phase Leader. These are as follows; Nursery / Reception – Laura Shepston Years 1 & 2 – Laura Talbot Years 3 & 4 – Kevin Houghton Years 5 & 6 – Kathryn Moody If there still seems to be a problem after this meeting, then Foundation and Key Stage 1 parents should make an appointment with the Deputy Head, Emma Cooke and Key Stage 2 (Years 3 and above) should make an appointment with Pete McGuigan. In this way we can help you more effectively, as the first person you will contact will be the person who knows your child the best. Thank you for your co-operation. PARKING ON GRESLEY ROAD We have had a letter from Sanctuary Housing saying that their tenants who live in the bungalows on Gresley Road are having problems with parents parking at pick up and drop off times. This is causing access problems for their mobility scooters and could potentially be dangerous should one of the residents need an ambulance in an emergency. Please, if you bring your children by car, make sure you park in a responsible manner with regard to our neighbours. Many thanks. YEAR 4 IN-SCHOOL GUITAR LESSONS - MONDAY The guitar lessons for the whole of Year 4, provided by the Music Centre, have changed day to Monday, starting on Monday 21 st January. This is because the teacher has been changed and the new teacher’s timetable only has availability on Monday. Please make sure your child brings their guitar for the lesson on Mondays in future. Thank you. PARENT-GOVERNOR ELECTION Your child will bring home a letter about the election of a new Parent Governor. The date for the close of nominations should read Thursday 28 th February 2013, not January as stated. Nomination forms are available from the school office. UPDATE TO EMERGENCY NUMBERS We are experiencing difficulties at the moment contacting parents when their child is ill, or left behind from an after-school club or activity. Please make sure, if you change your mobile number, or even move house, that you let school know. Thank you.

ASTHMA IN SCHOOLAs I am sure you are aware the cold weather and winter viruses can be problematic forchildren with asthma. Although the cold weather can be a trigger for some asthmaticchildren, there is no need for them to stay indoors at playtime. It may be beneficial foryour child to take their usual dose of reliever inhaler (usually blue) before going out oncold, dry days. If it's cold and windy, wearing a scarf over their face will help to warm upthe air before they breathe it in.

Children with asthma should be encouraged to participate in exercise and PE. If you havebeen advised by your doctor that exercise is a known trigger for your child’s asthma please let the classteacher know.Children with asthma should have easy access to their relieving medication at all times while in school. If

your child is old enough and able to self- administer their inhaler then they may be able to keep iton them, otherwise it should be handed to the class teacher to be stored in the inhaler box.

School must be provided with a prescribed inhaler for your child. Please check that it is indate. Spacers are the most effective way to deliver medicine to the lungs, especially duringa severe asthma attack. Please send a spacer into school if your child has been given one.Ensure that your child is taking their asthma medication as prescribed – this includesbrown/red/orange inhalers!! Winter flu vaccines are available to children with asthma so

please contact your GP for further information. It may also be beneficial for your child to

attend the asthma clinic at your GP surgery. The school nurse can help by devising an asthmaplan for your child in school. Please contact 01302 852680 if you would like to discuss this further.

CROSSING LITTLEMOOR LANE AND PARKINGWe now have a Crossing Patrol Warden, so please impress on yourchildren that they should use the warden when they try to cross theroad. Again we are asking that you park sensitively when you bringand collect your children, bearing in mind not blocking ourneighbours’ drives or double parking and causing problems forchildren trying to cross the roads. Additionally, please do not park ON the

pavement, as buggies and wheelchairs need the space on the footpath, as well as it being dangerous forchildren if you try to drive on the path. Thank you for your co-operation.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR NEWSLETTERWe are encouraging the children to contribute to our weekly newsletter withstories, pictures and items of interest they have done in the classroom ouroutside school. Year three have started to learn all about Ancient Egypt. To help

record our research we have been using a website called WallWisher

to display all of our notes. So far we have found lots of exciting

information about Tutankhamun and we are going to research all

about Howard Carter who discovered his tomb!

Have a look at what we have found so far!
