NEWSLETTER

Dear Families,

Sports Day was a great success last week. Our

thanks to the staff and volunteers who supported in

the lead up and on the day. Congratulations to

Kaurna Green and all students for their effort and

encouragement of others.

As we come to the end of another term, I would like

to thank our school community for their continued

support. I would also like to recognise the dedication

and hard work of our teaching and support staff.

It was pleasing to see the number of families who

made themselves available to meet with their child’s

teacher to continue the partnership we have in

ensuring the best opportunities and outcomes for all

students. While there may be occasions when you do

not agree with the way something is done, either at

an individual, class or school level, I am sure that you

realise that all staff have the best interests of our

whole school at the centre of all that we do. If you

have any suggestions for improvements, concerns or

questions please speak with the person/s concerned

or make a time to meet with a member of leadership.

Several weeks ago we farewelled Marisa Cameron

who has taken leave until Term 2 next year. Marisa

While it is only the end of Term 3, we have started

planning for 2017!

Teachers will be looking at class placements from

early in Term 4. For this reason, we need to know

start of next year and who will be enrolling here.

Please notify the office as soon as you know your

plans for 2017.

School Photos

School photos have been distributed in recent weeks to those families that purchased packs or individual

photos. It has come to our attention that a number of parents (and others) would prefer the more traditional

class photo rather than the composite photo.

There are a number of reasons why the composite photo option was chosen. These include:

Last year we sought parent feedback through the newsletter concerning the type of class photo and

the response was that families preferred the composite photo.

Students only need to be photographed once to produce a number of packages—including individual, class, graduation, photo ID

cards, whole school photos.

The school is provided with a database of individual images to use in our reporting system, on certificates, for class use etc.

Students who are absent or late can have their photo taken later in the day or on the catch up day provided. In the traditional class

photo, if the child is missing, they are not able to be included. On some days any class may have 3– 8 students absent.

There is considerably less time out of class resulting in fewer interruptions to learning.

The cost of the composite class photo is less due to the reduced time taken and photography staff required.

Individual student photos produce a better image and some students cannot spoil the photo for the group.

Potential danger with students balancing on stands.

Differences in dress code ‘bottoms’ can spoil the overall appearance.

We are seeking the opinion of families to determine the style of photo to be taken next year.

If you are likely to purchase a class photo, please respond on the tear off slip and return to school asap.

Photos will be taken in Term 2 next year.

In Forensic Science we had to solve a crime scene about a man

named Joseph Connor. He was found unconscious in a boat in Sydney.

He was unconscious due to being hit on the left side of the head with a

diving belt. He was also injected with spider venom. Joseph stole 2

gold bars and some gold medallions. He locked the gold bars in his

safe. We really enjoyed the activity and thought all of the activities we

got to do were lots of fun. We used a powerful digital microscope that

showed up lots of tiny details like a date of birth on a small metal tag.

We tried on a forensic scientists suit and have our photo taken.

Our favourite activity was the dark room with the ultraviolet lights. We

got to look for secret, invisible clues. The crime we solved was actually

based on a real crime.
