WELCOME NEW FAMILIES and CATCH UP WITH FRIENDS
•• FREE Jumping Castle •• $2.00 Face Painting ••
•• Afternoon Tea (50c - $2.00) ••
Our annual Hastings Hello is on next Friday afternoon and we are
sending a call out for parents to help with serving at the cake stall
and/or supervision at the Jumping Castle. Please email Amy at
[email protected] if you can assist. If everyone offers just
30 minutes of their time it gives everyone else time to spend with
their family and friends.
P&C are also looking for donations of cupcakes, cakes, slices and
biscuits for the Cake Stall (cupcakes are always a favourite with the
kids!). Please consider dairy and gluten free options when baking.
Nut free for all sweet treats is preferred. All donations must have
ingredients and the date baked listed. Donations can be left at the
canteen from 8:30am or taken directly to the stall from 2:30pm.

PRINCIPAL MATTERS
P&C Meeting - Please Come Along!
We would like to invite all parents and friends to come along to our first P&C meeting for the year to be held
Wednesday, 19th February from 7:00pm in the staffroom. Meetings usually go for about 1 - 1½ hours, and
we discuss a range of issues related to school. At Wednesday night’s meeting we will be discussing our
priorities for 2020 and planned fundraising activities. If you have new ideas or you would like to know more
about what P&C does for our school please come along. If you can’t attend evening meetings, but are still
interested in finding out about what is happening at P&C or helping out at an event, please email the school
at [email protected] or “like” their facebook page

School Swimming Carnival
Thankfully, the rain held off and our swimming carnival went ahead last week for students who had
nominated to swim in events. The day was a great success thanks to the parents who offered their
support either as officials or proud mums and dads cheering on their children. Thank you also to our staff
who ensured the carnival ran smoothly making it an enjoyable day for all. Apologies to our “non-
swimmers” who couldn’t attend but we will keep fingers crossed for fine weather next year.
Ribbons, Age and House Champions trophies were presented at this morning’s 3-6 Assembly. Ribbons
were awarded to the students in each age category with the three fastest times. Your child may have
gained a place in a heat but may not have received a ribbon if other students in other heats had a faster
time.
Students who placed in the top two placings and met the District qualifying times represented our school at
the Hastings/Camden Haven District Carnival yesterday.
Report by Ivy Fotheringham & Bodhi King-Johnson
Last Friday, we held the annual swimming carnival at the Town Pool. Even though it was a cloudy day we
made the best of it. Thanks to the dedication of our wonderful teachers and parent helpers. The students
did extremely well in the races and we thank everyone who participated.
District Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to our 32 swimmers who represented the school at the District Carnival yesterday. It was
a pleasure to attend and witness our students doing their best and supporting each other in competition.
Best of luck to our competitors who now progress to the Lower North Coast carnival next week in Kempsey.
For those students that have made it through to the next level, please let Mrs Barker know ASAP if you
cannot make it to Kempsey so the reserve swimmer can be notified. Notes and money to be returned to the
office by Tuesday. Please let Mrs Barker know if you require transport to Kempsey. If your child was
successful and didn’t receive a note for the LNC Carnival please see Mrs Barker on Monday.
School Uniform
At Hastings, we are so lucky to have such a beautiful uniform. Please support your children to wear full
school uniform. We promote this throughout the school and celebrate the effort that children make in
wearing their full school uniform with pride.
Our uniform, and the fact that every child wears it, is something that often results in compliments from
community members. This is something that we should be very proud of and work to sustain.
A few things to note:
White socks for girls and grey socks for boys. There have been some students confused about this
requirement.
We also ask that colourful hair ties, bows etc be kept for outside school use.
Bracelets, bangles, dangling earrings or necklaces should not be worn as these may be easily broken
or cause injury during interactive activities such as sport.
Sports shorts should only be worn on sport days.
Students will also be asked to remove nail polish and/or make-up.

LOST PROPERTY
The Lost Property tubs are filling quickly and we have only been back at school for 13 days! Clearly labelled
items nearly always find their owners – unlabelled items never do. Please clearly label all your child’s
clothing and containers and check the legibility during each holiday break as some labelling fades very
quickly. Please also check regularly that your child is wearing THEIR hat/jacket and not someone else’s.
LIBRARY NEWS
Book Club
Book Club catalogues were sent home this week. All orders are due in on
Wednesday, 19th February and online “LOOP” orders will close at 5pm the same
day. Due to the time it takes to process Book Club orders and for the security of
your money, early and/or late orders will not be accepted.
If returning cash orders, please ensure your order and payment is sealed in a
secure envelope clearly indicating your child’s name, class and “Book Club Order”
written on the front. Orders will be collected in class at 9am and sent to the library
in class envelopes to be processed. A special Thank You to our Book Club mums –
Ailie Carson (mum of Cameron & Thomas) and Tinelle Whitton (mum of Emma &
Hamish).
Borrowing All students require a library bag to borrow books. Years 1 to Year 6 started
borrowing this week. Kinder will commence the week beginning 9th March.
Everyday Please ensure your child reads with you, to you or on their own everyday!
HEAD LICE
650+ heads, mixed with warm & humid weather and the head lice are back! Please take time over the
weekend to check your child’s hair and treat if necessary. Treatment must be for lice & eggs however we
believe the louse are becoming immune to the treatment therefore re-application may be required. Failure
to kill and/or remove the live eggs will cause re-infestation.
SPORTS DAY CHANGES
From this week, changes to our sports days have been made with Kindergarten on Friday, Stage 1 (Year 1
& Year 2) on Tuesdays, Stage 2 (Year 3 & Year 4) on Wednesdays and Stage 3 (Year 5 & Year 6) on Friday.
STUDENT BANKING
Student Banking will commence next week – Monday 17th February. All students are encouraged to open
a Commonwealth Bank Dollarmite account and bank their pocket/birthday money on a regular basis.
Deposits from 50c are accepted. It’s a great way to save for something special and each deposit made also
earns commission for our school Application packs will be given to Kindergarten students following their
talks with a bank representative within the next couple of weeks. Students in Years 1 to 6 can pick up an
application pack from the office. We thank Leonie Mann (mum of Nellina) and Katrina Jones (Charley’s
mum), who put their hands up to be our volunteer banking mums this year.
