Dear Families

I am writing to inform you that [this site] will be open but providing a modified

education program for the whole of the school day on Monday 1 July 2019 due

to a vote for industrial action by members of the Australian Education Union at

grounds that there will be sufficient staff on duty to enable me as Principal to

ensure that adequate standards of children/student safety and welfare can be

provided.

Families can send their children to the site as normal. Modified education

programs will be provided to students for the whole of the school day. This

means that groups of students will be supervised but regular classes will not

take place.

To assist with the organisation of groups for the day, we ask R-1 students to

meet Bev Jones and Ashlee Eyles in Class 2 (Beck & Bev’s classroom) at the

start of the day.

Year 2-7 students will meet staff in the gym first thing. TRTs will not be

employed to cover classes.

Before and after school OSHC services will operate as normal but bookings are

essential ph 0403 605 975 .

Normal education programs will resume on Tuesday 2 July 2019.

Wellbeing Groups Wellbeing groups have begun and our ambassadors have successfully run their first lesson. This

lesson derived from World Meditation day and promoted self-care. Year 7 wellbeing ambassadors

actioned a meditation lesson to their groups and began to build upon positive relationships with

peers of various ages. Moving forward Wellbeing groups will take an anti-bullying stance to ensure a whole school

approach to safety and belonging. Ambassadors reviewed LPS Wellbeing Collection Data and shared their (student)

voices on issues within the school environment they felt were of importance. Ambassadors are utilising the new

Department for Education wellbeing toolkit VoiceIt to plan and action their lessons. The outcome of Wellbeing groups

is to enhance and strengthen Wellbeing and health promotion at an individual and community level. Year 7

Outcomes relating to the Australian Curriculum (Health & Physical Education):

Investigate and select strategies to promote health, safety and wellbeing (ACPPS073)

Analyse factors that influence emotions, and develop strategies to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity

(ACPPS075)

Plan and use health practices, behaviours and resources to enhance health, safety and wellbeing of their

communities (ACPPS077)

We are so excited to be inviting Mark Le Messurier back to Lobethal Primary School.

The response to his last Parent Workshop was outstanding and families and staff took

away valuable skills and strategies. Mark is a Counsellor, Mentor and Educator Parent

Coach whose programs are taught within Universities worldwide and his philosophy around behaviour and social

skills is largely practiced by schools and families’ nationwide. Through workshops Mark offers healthy and engaging

ideas to bring about helpful and achievable strategies for behaviour changes in all children, particularly those with

behaviours deemed a little tougher than others. Mark also provides opportunities for conversations and questions.

This time we are peeling it back a layer, as requested by parents/carers, and will be focusing on strategies in the

workshop:

SETTING UP FOR SUCCESS SERIES – REAL ideas to tame ugly behaviours.

Please keep an eye out on Flexibuzz for booking details, however at this stage book the evening of Wednesday, July

31st, Term 2, Week 3 at 6pm in your diaries. We are looking at extending OSHC hours for the convenience of

Friday Foodies

Just recently we had both girls and boys head out of class to compete in Knockout Footy and Netball Competitions.

The girls headed off to Birdwood where they played 3 games – they had 2 wins against Lobethal Lutheran and

Kersbrook but then were defeated by Birdwood which meant they are now out of the competition. Big thanks to

Tess for umpiring for us. The girls showed great sportsmanship and had fun experimenting in lots of different

positions on the day.

The boys combined with Lenswood Primary School and headed down to the Lobethal Oval where they had 2 games

to play. First one was against St Michaels where the boys had a great win then we came up against Birdwood/

Gumeracha and unfortunately they were much better on the day. This also meant we are now out of the

competition. Big thanks to Dick Kleemann for his expert coaching on the day as well as Kerri Tilbrook for organising

guernseys and change rooms for the boys to use. The boys also showed great team work and sportsmanship

We are so excited to be partnering up with St Vinnies to extend our support for those in need, particularly

during the freezing winter. As a school we want to encourage and seek support through our local

community to ensure we can truly make an impact to those who are less fortunate and have limited

access to the necessities in life. Please keep an eye and ear out for posters and student conversations in

the next week and throughout Term 3. We are organising a collection bin for good quality clothing,

household items, toys, books, blankets etc, we will also be organising boxes to collect non-perishable

foods.

The Year 7 Wellbeing Ambassadors will be creating fliers in week 10 to distribute to stores along the main

street of Lobethal early term 3. These fliers will communicate an organised clothing/food drive that

students will then collect as part of the wellbeing lessons. Throughout Term 3 we will be hosting

fundraisers such as Bake sales and a pyjama day, so keep an eye out on Flexibuzz for these. All donations

made through these fundraisers will go towards making a difference for people experiencing

homelessness and disadvantage in our local community and beyond.

Let’s all come together to help those in need, every effort will make an impact.

During our fortnightly garden sessions, Class 5 and class 6 have teamed up together to start a business

called, Ready, Set, Grow @ L.P.S.

Due to global warming and extensive loss of native habitats, we have created this business to revegetate

our local community and sell native plants to the broader community.

Projects will start within our school and then spread to other possible projects within the wider

community. These could include understory plantings in Bushland Park Nature Play Area, adjacent

private properties or road verges and the Amy Gillet bikeway.

The classes split into 7 groups, which are: Project Planning, Propagation, Seed Management and

Ordering, Finance, Media, Sales and Stall Preparation and Data. Each group has a job that they need to

complete to keep the business up and running successfully. So far, we have named the business,

designed the logo, set up income and expenditure worksheets, designed several data collection sheets

and of course propagating many local Australian natives.

If you would like to find out more about our fabulous business, Dan and Lara (our Youth Environment

Leaders) will be presenting information on the 3rd of July at 10:30am in the Library. ( Please arrive at

10:15am for cake and coffee for a 10:30am start.) We are holding this meeting so that you can find out

more about the business we have created and introduce our project to relevant bodies who may be

involved with the organisation and planning.

We will be having Market Stalls out the front of our school starting in Term 3. Some things that we will be

selling at our market include, bunches of herbs, eggs, fruit and veg seedlings, succulents and of course

Local Australia Native seedlings, such as, Carex, grasses. Hardenbergia and Westringia.

We would love for some people to volunteer to help us run the stalls, sell Natives at the Australian Plant

Society Sale in October, help out during garden classes, help propagate and of course help planting out. It

would be greatly appreciated and very amazing for the school community to get behind our new

business. If you are interested in finding out more, please come along next Wednesday.

Looking forward to growing and caring for our local native environment with you.

Chloe, Lachie, Oscar, Sharni, and Cameron.

Community News

Two parents from Lobethal Primary School are participating in this years ‘Shitbox Rally’. This

rally will see them driving their car (worth $1000 or less) from Melbourne to Townsville via

iconic Birdsville with 550 other participants. We hope to have their car at school next Term so

that the students can show their support by helping to paint the car.

The rally is not a race, rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable. Travelling across

Australia via some of its most formidable roads and remote communities.

The first challenge for our team is to raise as much as possible before leaving on the rally in October this year,

therefore we would greatly appreciate it if you could support our team.

We are hosting a Movie night at the Wallis cinema in Mount Barker on Saturday 20th July at 6pm. We are showing

‘Spiderman Far from Home’.

Tickets are $15 each and all proceeds will go to the Cancer Council. They can be

contacted on 0421 845 3968 to buy tickets or for any further information
