FEES News From the Directors Chair Dear Parents/caregivers, Welcome back to term 4! We hope you have had a fabulous holiday and feel energised and ready for a wonderful term of learning with us. Needless to say, Term 4 is our busiest term of year, where we have loads of exciting activities and events planned. So, fasten your seatbelts and come along and enjoy your child’s last term as a kindy kid. Have you noticed our kindy looking gorgeous? We have a had a makeover over the holidays, having our internal walls and doors painted, new carpet and vinyl laid and new lawn planted. The funds used for the carpet and flooring was provided through a Govern- ment maintenance grant and the lawn was purchased by funds raised from our quiz night. The makeover has certainly made our kindy a warm, clean and inviting space to learn and play. Our environmental program has blossomed (pun intended!!!) since spring. We have created several pallet veggie gardens, made from reusing wooden pallets. These are placed outside near where the monkey bars were previously located. If you get a chance, go outside and take a look. They are a great way to create a wonderful garden space using very little money, space and resources. We have also planted all of our baby native plants around our ‘Claudewalk- Boardwalk’. We are hoping that the plants will grow rapidly, ready for us to have an opening ceremony of our memorial garden before the end of the year. Over the next few weeks, we will distributing an outdoor kindy survey. This survey will provide us with valuable information from families and our community around the value of outdoor learning experiences. The information gathered will inform our staff team around future planning and the development of our centre’s philosophy statement. Your participation with survey is greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to a wonderful term ahead. Thanks for your ongoing support. Leeon behalf of our wonderful staff team… Gen, Nell, Janice, Nic, Kylie and Joan ARE YOU BUSHFIRE READY??? News From the Directors Chair Dear Parents/caregivers,

Welcome back to term 4! We hope you have had a fabulous holiday

and feel energised and ready for a wonderful term of learning with

us. Needless to say, Term 4 is our busiest term of year, where we

have loads of exciting activities and events planned. So, fasten your

seatbelts and come along and enjoy your child’s last term as a

kindy kid.

Have you noticed our kindy looking gorgeous? We have a had a

makeover over the holidays, having our internal walls and doors

painted, new carpet and vinyl laid and new lawn planted. The funds

used for the carpet and flooring was provided through a Govern-

ment maintenance grant and the lawn was purchased by funds

raised from our quiz night. The makeover has certainly made our

kindy a warm, clean and inviting space to learn and play.

Our environmental program has blossomed (pun intended!!!) since

spring. We have created several pallet veggie gardens, made from

reusing wooden pallets. These are placed outside near where the

monkey bars were previously located. If you get a chance, go

outside and take a look. They are a great way to create a wonderful

Boardwalk’. We are hoping that the plants will grow rapidly, ready

experiences. The information gathered will inform our staff team

around future planning and the development of our centre’s

philosophy statement. Your participation with survey is greatly

appreciated.

We are looking forward to a wonderful term ahead.

Thanks for your ongoing support.

We are all so excited to announce that the Dancify dance program has come to Lobethal Kindy this Term. Heidi will come and teach us all some awesome dance moves, provid-ing the children with 4 dance sessions across the term (one session per fortnight). We will celebrate and share what the children have learnt at a combined concert at Lobethal Pri-mary School on the 28th November, 2013. The cost of the dance program is $20 per child. This will replace an excursion this term. We expect all chil-dren to participate in the dance program and re-quire payment by the start of week 3 (28th/10/13). Please place money in an envelope with your child’s name and mark it —Dancify and put it in the fees box.

In accordance with our site sun smart policy, during the Months of September to April (terms 1 & 4) all children must wear a sun smart hat whilst playing outside. Sunscreen is available next to the sign in register but we ask that you apply sunscreen to your child prior to the session at home. Staff will then reapply sunscreen at Lunchtime. (A copy of the Sun Smart Policy is available in the parent information corner.) Please ensure your child brings a sun smart hat to kindy every session. Thank you.

Book based Programming

What is is?

A programming process that is based around the use and content of a selected

book. The book content and ideas provide the springboard for exciting, relevant

and targeted learning outcomes for children.

Why do it? Research and literature has highlighted the important factors underpinning literacy

development.

Phonological awareness

Oral language

Print Knowledge.

Book based programming can provide a fantastic platform for repeated practise of

these skills in a fun, relevant and familiar ‘theme’ environment.

Children at varying levels of communication and developmental competence can

all participate achieving a diverse range of learning outcomes.

While providing a supportive overarching theme in which to target learning opportunities it can be dynamic, flexible and most impor-

tantly embrace the emerging curriculum that we strongly believe in at Lobethal Kindy.

The books predictable text and sequence can also aid and support play skills : providing opportunities to practise entering, contributing

and maintaining play episodes with peers as the roles, plot and vocabulary become familiar and known by all players.

(Information based on the work by Ingrid Calusinski)

Are you sold? ...... We are!

So what next? Last week staff met with Ingrid Calusinski DECD Speech Pathologist for a fantastic Training and Development session around Book

Based Learning.

By using a skill mapping process staff worked through identifying targeted learning outcomes for children and from there we chose the

book that will form the fundamental element in our programming process.

We present to you

‘Wombat Stew’ and invite you to join our Learning

Journey - stay tuned!
