Additions and corrections to dragonfly lists of five protected areas in Thailand' /•;

Matti Hamalainen & Bro. Amnuay Pinratana

In the earlier issues of MALANGPO we have presented checklists of known dragonflies for fivenational parks or wildlife sanctuaries. Especially from Khao Yai, Khao Soi Dao and Doi Suthep-Pmmany additional species have been recorded since the lists were published. These additions arepresented here, as well as some other necessary corrections. They are based on those publications onThai dragonfly fauna, which have come to our knowledge and to our own unpublished records.

It would be tempting to continue preparing similar lists for other Thai parks as well. Althoughfrom some of them quite a lot of records are already available, much further field work is stillnecessary in all of them, also in the five parks already covered in our reports. It is often impossible toidentify dragonflies confidently in field without taking voucher specimens for detailed study indoors.Although dragonfly surveys of protected areas in tropics are strongly recommended by the OdonataSpecialist Group of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), it is getting increasingly difficult to getpermits for collecting dragonflies in protected areas in Thailand. This will unavoidably slow down theincrease of our knowledge of the nature heritage in Thailand. We hope that a solution to thisdiscrepancy can be found and the work can continue.

In the original list also "monthly records" were presented. For many species plenty of new"month" records are available. However, they are not listed here. The following species are added tothe Khao Yai list. '

Aeshnidae CorduliidaeGynacantha sp. [August] Macromia cydippe [May]Libellulidae Macromidia genialis shanensis [August]Agrionoptera i. insignis [November]

Because in the previous list some species so far recorded only from nearby areas (Wang Takrai,Muak Lek and Pak Chong) were also included, two published similar additions should be listed here.

Gomphidae LibellulidaeOnychogomphus duaricus [Wang Takrai, August] Orthetrum luzonicum [Muak Lek, June]

Other necessary corrections:- Agrlocnemis nama should read Agriocnemis nana.- Aciagrion hisopa. This does not seem to represent the real hisopa, but is best considered only as

Aciagrion sp., until someone revises this extremely difficult genus.- Copera v. vittata. This is not conspecific with type ofvittata, but is another ssp. or distinct species.- Macromia sp. This is [female of] Macromia chaiyaphumensis.- Cratilla I. lineata. This should be Cratilla lineata calverti.

It is likely, that Idionyx sp.indet. and Gynacantha sp.indet. in the original list represent /.thailandica and G. demeter, correspondingly. For Copera v. vittata, see above.

Doi Suthep - Pui national park [cf. Malangpo 8: 49-52,1991]

At least the following additional species have been found within the boundaries of Doi Suthep-Puinational park after our list was published.

Lestidae ChlorogomphidaeLestes elatus Chlorogomphus arooniPlatystictidae LibellulidaeProtosticta curiosa Camacinia giganteaProtosticta khaosoidaoensis Neurothemis intermedia atalantaGomphidae Orthetrum japonicum internumAmphigomphus somnuki Orthetrum pruinosum neglectumAeshnidaePlanaeschna intersedens

The following corrections should be made.- Copera v. vittata, see comments in the corrections for the Khao Yai list.- Protosticta sp. very likely refers to one of those two species added above.- Delete star from front ofAgriocnemisf.femina.- Drepanosticta doisuthepensis is synonym of D. anascephala.- Asiagomphus sp. should be Anisogomphus sp.
