ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMITTEE ANNUAL
REPORT
January 1, 2017 thru January 1, 2018
HAPPY NEW YEAR! from all of us on your Architectural Control Com-mittee. Our New Years Resolution
is that 2018 will have even more of our home owners making improve-
ments on their property than the 294 who did so in 2017.
Looking back, it seems that the
year of 2017 just flew by at warp speed. We began the year by pro-cessing the Lot Improvement Forms and the required State Form for 5 Park Models and 3 homes being stuccoed. 63 home owners applied paint to their homes and sheds and 18 repaired or replaced their sheds and cool rooms. We approved the removal of 20 palm trees and 17 landscaping projects for our residents. 33 of our home owners added or made repairs to their decks and stairs while 16 replaced the old windows with
new ones on their homes. The ACC approved 13 requests for roof re-
pairs and 13 requests for patio covers and sunscreens. 39 resi-
dents made changes to the gravel, pavers and concrete on their Lots and 17 added walls, fences and privacy screens. Requests for new or changes to plumbing or electri-
cal installations were made by 11 homeowners.
(continued…)
We processed 22 Lot Improve-ment Plans that did not fit into any of the above categories. 4 Home owners were asked to re-submit their plans after they had a conference with one of the ACC members.
We commend our Home Owners for adding to the beauty and value of their Homes and our five star Park and we look forward to as-sisting anyone in your future pro-jects.

Residential Knox-Box Program
What is a Knox-box?
A Knox-Box is a small, safe like steel box that attaches to the home or entry door. A key to
the home is placed inside the box by the fire department. The box can only be accessed
by a special key that the fire department carries with them at all times.
The homeowner has two ways in Yuma in which to acquire a Knox
-Box. You can purchase your own Knox-Box by the internet at WWW.Knoxbox.com or call Knox Company at 800-552-5669. Yu-ma Fire Department recom-mends the Series 1650 Knox-box for residents covered by them for
emergency situations. The cost is approximately $271.00 and you will need a door key availa-ble to be placed inside the Knox-Box by Yuma Fire Department after it is installed by you or your contractor.
The second way to obtain a Knox-box is from The Western Arizo-na Council of Governments (WACOG) they have a few loaner Knox-Boxes available to those
that qualify. (continued…)
The resident must call 1-800-782-1886 to setup an appoint-ment for an advisory/interviewer to come to your home to determine if you quali-
fy for a loaner, Knox-Box which must be returned when no long-er required. Yuma Fire Depart-ment Administration and Knox-Box Coordinator

Happy New Year. We have al-
ready had three months of fun
watching those brightly colored
orbs of joy disappear into the
pockets like Meerkats scurrying
into their dens after seeing a
hawk shadow. Of course those
same orbs have often times
turned into dismal spheres of
despair as they refuse to follow
even the simplest of commands.
Thus it goes in this game of infi-
nite puzzle solving opportunities
and never ending search for that
elusive Zen like zone called “Dead
Stroke”. We can look forward to
three more months of friendly
competition in the Billiard Room
before the sun that brought us
here gets bright enough to drive
all but the heartiest away.
In the meantime we have busi-
ness to attend to. Our Annual
Club Meeting will be held in the
Billiard Room at 12:30 pm on Fri-
day January 12th, just before the
Men’s tournament. We have club
business to discuss and 3 board
positions to be filled this year. I
hope to see you all there to par-
ticipate. If you wish to be a can-
didate for the board, sign up on
the bulletin board or let a current
board member know. That is
much better than finding out at
the meeting that you are running
for a seat. (continued….)
Yuma Senior Games Women’s
Singles will be here on Wednes-
day January 24th and Men’s Sen-
ior Games Singles will be here
on Thursday January 25th.
Women’s Doubles will also be
here on Wednesday January 31st
with the Men’s Doubles on
Wednesday February 7th . Yuma
has held their Senior Games
Pool Shooting events here for
years for good reason. I’m
afraid next year the “popular
demand” to continue that tradi-
tion is going to be deafening.
Lessons, free to anyone in the
park, have been added to our
regular weekly events. Just
show up in the Billiard Room
Wednesdays at 3:00 pm.

want to do your task yourself,
someone here could likely give

play. The shop will be putting

We've started our new season at the Country Roads Computer Club and invite all residents to join us and learn more about their devic-es. We meet every Wednesday morning in the Colorado Room to discuss a broad range of topics; phones, tablets, computers, rout-

and emerging technology.
Our format this season will be self directed discussions, looking at ways members can find answers to
their technical issues. We are also seeking residents who have a background in technology and are willing to share their expertise with our members.
The morning sessions are divided by areas of interest:
Apple SIG (9:00am-10:30am): Group Leaders are Earl Kuhl & John Fenimore
Windows 10 SIG (10:30am-Noon) : Group Leaders are Merle VanDyke & Phil Mocan
Come, bring your devices, meet

always the best. Now we have
new ones showing up to enjoy
the chips. The Yuma Wood-
carving Expo will be in Janu-
ary at the Armory on Araby,
January 12 and 13. It is an
amazing show and a great
place to find more wood to
carve, along with tools.
Our club is open to CR resi-
dents Mondays and Fridays

and two tables designed with spe-
cific measurements for the jigsaw
puzzles. One table would accom-
modate 1500-2000 piece puzzles
and a narrower table would han-
dle 750-1000 piece puzzles. The
general planning was to fit at
least three to four large puzzles at
a time so as many people as possi-
ble could participate in this fun
activity.
The Wood Shop requested funding
for the lumber and stain to work
on this project. These volunteers
built over 128 shelves to fit all of
the books and the two large tables
and the counter, all within four to
five weeks. The move out of the
old building to the existing room
was made with a small army of
volunteers.
Everyone has enjoyed this warm,
delightful atmosphere where peo-
ple have shared many wonderful
times together. Laughter rings
out, thoughtful book talks are ex-
changed, and deep friendships
have been developed.
This library is a private library
designed and developed for Coun-
try Road residents. It is a true
jewel. Come in to work on puz-
zles, read a magazine, pick out
some books or DVD’s and enjoy
your library. Volunteers and your
book donations have made it what
it is today.

Creation of the Current
Country Roads Library
At one time, the Country Roads
Library was located in half of
what is now the Mojave Room.
In 2007, or thereabouts, it was
moved to where it is presently,
in what was then the Fitness
Center. A wonderful group of
resident volunteers composed
of carpenters, an engineer and
book lovers began planning the
current library.
With the talent of the late Al
Donaldson and other volunteers
of the Wood Shop, plus
Maybelle Henry (librarian at
that time), measurements were
taken for book shelves, a maga-
zine counter (continued….)

Happy New Year! We hope you
all had a wonderful Christmas
and New Year and are now
ready to face the New Year with
great resolve for fitness and
health! We are very fortunate to
have such a good Fitness Room
and it is here to help serve your
needs.
We are happy to announce that
treadmill #3 is being replaced
thanks to funding from C.R. It
was purchased in 2005 and has
served us well with many miles
of use. Thanks to the C.R .Board
of Directors for approving the
replacement.
The Annual Meeting for the Fit-
ness Club will be Monday, Janu-
ary 8, 2018 in the Fitness Room.
The room will be closed for reg-
ular use at that time. This is the
opportunity for Members to de-
cide the direction of Fitness Club
and also the election of officers.
Last year we had windows in-
stalled in the solid door facing
the parking lot and all the win-
dows tinted. A Great improve-
ment!
We will be hosting 2 Orientation
Days this season.
Monday, January 15 at 1pm and
Monday, February 19 at 1pm
(continued…)
The purpose is to assist people
in proper use of the equipment
for both personal safety and
safety to the equipment.
The Fitness Club will again be
hosting the March Spaghetti Din-
ner and we will be asking for
volunteers. This is our big fund
raiser for the season.
The dues and proceeds from the
dinner are how we raise funds
for general maintenance for the
Fitness equipment and to pur-
chase equipment as needed.
We would like to remind every-
one that proper clothing should
be worn in the Fitness Room. It
is also a Fragrance Free area and
we have had complaints about
both. Please be courteous to oth-
ers in this respect. If you have
any issues please report them to
one of the Fitness Club Board of
Directors.

Much has been happening in the
Pottery Studio lately! Beautiful
and functional items are being
made every day by our members,
and many classes for members are
offered, in the ceramics room in
the mornings. Oftentimes it is as
busy as a bee hive in the Pottery
Studio! For non-members, there is
Horsehair class every Monday and
Tuesday (2 part class), and Begin-
ning Pottery is also a 2-part class,
offered each month. Please come
in and sign up! Our dues are $25
this year, and include free glazing.
We have also added a line of Dun-
can Concepts paints in bright col-
ors. Our open hours are 9 - 4
Monday through Friday, 10-4 on
weekends, as long as monitors are
present, and we are also open
Monday and Wednesday evenings.
There will be an Auction on Febru-

Hoping everyone had a wonderful holiday season - wherever you may have spent it! 2018 has arrived and is full of fun activities to choose from. Our annual CAN/AM (Canadians vs Americans) Golf Tournament week
is January 8th-12th and once the tabulations are done, the winning Country is announced at our barbe-
cue on January 20th. This is a 'fore' fun competition among our Club members and the more partic-ipants the merrier.
The putting greens and driving cages are open to all residents and guests of Country Roads. Putters
and balls are available in the near-by Golf storage area. The keys that access the outside gates also allow
access to the storage area. Along with our regular six week-
ly courses to choose from, January
& February also offer organized
play at Coyote Wash, Yuma Coun-
try Club, Borrego Springs, Barbara
Werth and Emerald Canyon. A list
of the courses and the days they
are played is posted on the bulletin
board outside the ballroom, along
with a list of all of the Club's up-
coming events. Seasonal, monthly
and weekly Club memberships are
available. Members that have
guests visiting are welcome to sign
them up for golf (based on space
availability) and pay $1 per guest/
per course. If you are unable to
make the Monday morning meeting
(8:00am in the Ballroom), the sign
-up sheets for the following week
are on the (continued…)

outside the ballroom. Once the
current week's pairings and tee
times are assigned, they are

Once again summer is over and we are back at Country Roads for some fun and games with friends, old and new,and maybe a
happy hour or two. If you're down at the shop area and hear some laughing and gig-
gling coming from behind the Oleanders, Well...it is only us old folks at the Volleyball courts do-ing what we think we do so well. Ah...that's playing volleyball Please come and join us. Haven't played in awhile? Maybe since
high school? That's OK. You see we're a patient lot. Have to be at this point in our lives.
We're looking for some folks with very specific skills. Can you
count to 4. If so, that's great. If you can recall, or not, you only hit the ball 3 times on a side. And
we need folks with really good memories. We seem to spend alot of time discussing who served
last. One of our favorite things to do is
eat. Once a month we have a pot-luck dinner, drink a little wine, and discuss the finer points of, well... All kidding aside there is a Vol-
leyball game every morning ex-cept Sunday from 9-11 down at the drainage area by the shop. Everyone is welcome whatever your skill. Thank you, Guest writer Jim LaFrenaye Submitted by Deanie Pizzillo, #55 Volleyball Marketing Coordina-tor (I just love that title as it sounds so important)

Welcome to those who have just ar-
rived for the short winter season. If
you were involved with Men's Fellow-
ship last year, we are up and going
full steam. If you are new to the park
or have not been before, come join us.
As you know men like to talk about
their golf game, favorite sports team
or the activities they are involved in at
Country Roads. They want to hear
about the concerns in the lives of their
friends and even the friends of their
friends. And they will even sit still
long enough to be encouraged, in-
formed and sometimes challenged to
be all they can be as men, in an ac-
cepting Christian atmosphere.
All of the above and more happens in
Men's Fellowship on Wednesday
mornings at 7:15am in the Aztec/Inca
rooms. It's the closest thing we have
to a man cave at Country Roads. If you
have not tried it, you are invited to do
so.

If you’ve ever tried to watch your weight, you may be famil-
iar with the sneaky weight “creep.” This “creep” is deceiv-ing, because it happens very slowly. Maybe you forget to log your meals one day. No big deal. Then one day turns into a week. You may skip the gym for a couple days, then those days turn into a month. All the while your pants fit just a little bit tighter … and tight-er. When this happens, it’s time to get back to basics with what
works best for you. Everyone is different, but these three num-bers can help you get back on track when the number on the
scale creeps up. Step it up, with a track-er. Keeping track of your steps,
workouts or activity minutes can be a great way to motivate
yourself to move more. Some activity trackers even allow you to invite friends to step challenges. A little friendly competition goes a long way. If you bite it, write it. Lately, I’ve noticed that my weight has been creeping up and I’m start-ing to inch out of leeway*. As frustrating as this is, I’ve real-ized that, whenever I stop log-
ging my food, I gain. This doesn’t mean that you have to spend hours meticulously counting every calorie but, without having a general idea
of how much you’re eating, it’s too easy to go overboard. Step on the scale. While this
number is by no means the on-ly measure of how your weight-loss (continued…)
efforts are going, it is important to know to help keep you account-able. It’s tough to face the scale when you know you’re not where you want to be. Instead of feeling down, try thinking of the number as a motivator that fires you up
toward your goal. And remember that one frustrating face-off with the scale will not totally derail your weight-loss goals, unless you allow it to.
We welcome anyone wanting sup-port and accountability in regain-ing a healthy weight. Join us at
TOPS Friday mornings at 9:00 in the Mohave Room to learn more
about TOPS. Your first meeting is free. Respectfully submitted by Lynda
Mawer, Lot 824

HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone! Our
friendshiup Singles guys and gals
are excited and busy planning lots
of news, fun activities and trips for
2018. December 3rd we went to
the Christmas Tree Lighting festiv-
ities in Old Downtown Yuma and
then enjoyed the Christmas Parade
on Dec. 9th on Main Street, in
downtown, a wonderful celebra-
tion! Sunday, Dec. 10th was our
Christmas potluck and party. We
collected socks to donate to the
Crossroads Mission, as our commu-
nity service project. We decided
not to meet on Dec. 24 so we could
have extra time with our families
and to dos some last minute shop-
ping.
For our Friendship Singles Club on
January 14th (Sunday) meeting we
will have a hilarious comedy hour
with comedian, Tim Hawkins as
well as our usual potluck in the
Mohave Room at 3 PM. So bring a
dish to share and your drink and
place setting. Then on January
28th we are planning a game party
and will discuss the month of Feb-
ruary upcoming events. Come join
us, ALL are welcome! Come share
you thoughts and ideas and make
new friends. We have already dou-
bled in size for our Singles group.
(continued….)
We have invited Sgt. Ryland
Crouch of the Yuma County
Sheriffs Dept. to come and
speak to us about scams identify
theft on Sunday, February 25th.
Don’t miss it.
Some of our other up coming
events will include the Farm
Tour Lunch and veggie picking
along with a tour on the cotton
wagons of the experimental Ari-
zona Ag Center in El Centro, CA.
We will do another Murder Mys-
tery Party, a Hawaiian Luau, a
variety of local trips and tours
her in the valley and much
more.
Come join us on the second and
fourth Sundays of each month at
3 PM in the Mohave Room to
hear wha’t happening in our
Friendship guys and gals club
for singles. We also post our
flyers on the bulletin boards.
Looking forward to seeing you
there and brings a friend…

What a month for Marketing plan-
ning and activity. Our involvement
never ends which is good since the
more we get the word out the more
likely we are to attract new resi-
dents to our great RV Village.
The WELCOME BACK BASH at the
Fairgrounds was a tremendous
success. We passed out multiple
pieces of information about Coun-
try Roads and activities open to the
public. We were not able to speak
at length with folks as there were
just so many passing our booth,
but we did get many to fill out Info
Cards where they could check off
items which they would like to
know more about. Twenty (20)
people requested more info about
renting and three (3) about pur-
chasing homes, along with many
requesting info about Ballroom
shows and Craft fair. Events in the
planning stages for January are the
following: WELCOME TO COUN-
TRY ROADS orientation program is
scheduled for Thursday, January 4
at 1:00pm in the Ballroom. Please
inform your new neighbors to at-
tend this one hour fast paced meet-
ing. It will help them get acclimat-
ed to CR very quickly. The CRAFT
FAIR on January 18 will find us
providing lots of info about events
about to take place, plus we will
welcome representatives from the
YUMA SUN (sign up to receive
home delivery) and ZTRENDZ
(order Country Roads logo shirts).

BOOMERS AND BEYOND is
scheduled for Saturday, February
17. It is our plan to be present.
While we will not see as many
people as we did at the Welcome
Bash, we will get to spend more
time visiting with them about the
benefits of Country Roads. A new
internal project is to develop
some quality marketing efforts
for the SUNRISE CAFÉ. We have
a wonderful daily dining facility,
but it needs more promotion and
we are working with staff to
“help get the word “ out about
the great food for breakfast and
lunch at the SUNRISE CAFÉ. The
project we are excited about is
the 3-5 minute video which will
be made in February by GENER-
ATE MEDIA This local video
company is working with our
committee to develop a script
which will serve as the guide for
this video. Plans call for the vid-
eo to be embedded into the Coun-
try Roads WEB. This should do
nothing but provide us with huge
benefits in visually describing
this wonderful resort. Our AM-
BASSADORS are now in place to
sell the ”sizzle” of Country Roads
to potential residents. The MAR-
KETING COMMITTEE has two
regularly scheduled meetings in
January---Monday, January 8 and
Monday January 29, both at
3:30pm in the Navajo Room. Eve-
ryone is welcome. Remember,
everyone is a marketer for CR.
Are you doing your part to pro-
mote Country Roads?
Line dancing has become a very
popular way to spend a fun hour
on Saturday mornings here in
Country Roads! We have many
experienced members who have
been in the Introduction to Line
Dancing class for years, and we
also have true beginners, who
have never line danced before.
So, we are splitting the class into
two groups. Those beginning to
learn how to line dance will be in
Line Dance 1, which runs 9:45 -
10:30 AM, and those with expe-
rience and who would like a
greater challenge, will be in Line
Dance 2, which runs from 10:30 -
11:15 AM, starting January 6th. If
you have line danced for awhile,
you are welcome to attend both
classes, but if you are new to it,
you will be more comfortable in
Line Dance 1. Human beings
were "meant to move to music".
Come to the ballroom on Satur-
day mornings and you will enjoy
"sweating socially" with us in
line dancing!

By popular demand, the Coun-
try Roads Dance Club will be
offering FREE dance lessons
again this year. Watch for the
dates in the weekly bulletin and
on Facebook. The lessons
offered are for country pattern
dances, but we are open to all
types of dances if we can get
volunteers. Some of the dances
we may be teaching are two-
step, waltzes, cowboy cha-cha,
sweetheart schottische and oth-
ers.
The purpose of the Dance Club
is for people who enjoy dancing
to meet, dance, learn and even
put on special dances. The les-
sons are FREE for all Country
Roads residents and their
guests. Remember dancing is
good exercise for you mind and

join the dance club. We need

Dinner tickets have been raised

projects to keep our park in ship
shape condition. With much re-

Our gathering was December 7th in the Inca Room where we en-

are all sending prayers for their safety. Several events are
planned around Yuma for Red Hatters sponsored by the various Queens. The first one is Boot

ELECTION REPORT 2018
The time is NOW for candidates to turn in their resumes to the home owners’ office, time has ran out.
January 8, 4:00 PM is the deadline. Each resume is to be 1 page approx 250 words. The governing of
our park is overseen by seven board members. Two of those board members term will expire March
2018. Who will fill those two (2) positions, AND, will there be enough candidates that we have a
choice to vote on? Any home owner in good standing is eligible to run for the board. We have many
qualified people among our membership. So, what is a qualified member? They are good listeners,
and can make decisions, they are good communicators, they are willing to commit to their time to be-
ing a board member, and they most likely have basic computer skills. Help to keep our park a 5-Star #1
park. Please think about throwing your hat in the ring as a candidate. Photos of candidates will be tak-
en at 4:00 PM January 8, meet at the homeowners’ office. Candidates will be introduced to the mem-
bership the following day at the January 9th board meeting.
A few reminders about campaign guidelines and instructions in our park.
Campaigning may start January 9, 2018 the day after the resume deadline.
No campaign signs of any kind are allowed in our park, ie: on properties or golf carts.
Campaign badges are not to be worn by volunteers, or displayed, as they perform their volunteer
duties on Association (common) Property
We encourage you to attend the Meet the Candidates Forum February 12, 1:00PM in the ballroom. You
may think you know the candidates, but do you really know all of them and their views. So, mark your
calendar and become an informed voter BEFORE YOU VOTE. Once a ballot has been cast in the ballot
box it is irrevocable
January 19 is the deadline for you to give the home owners office the address where you want your
ballot mailed. For multiple lot owners, each lot you own must have the address where you want that
ballot mailed to. The ballots will be mailed to the address on record. When you arrived and checked in
at the H.O. office and changed your address to Country Roads that is not a change of address for the
U.S. Post Office. You still must fill out a change of address for the U. S. Post office to have your mail
delivered to Country Roads.
You can check your own mailing address on the City Property Website. (If you have your account es-
tablished with your e-mail and password)
http://cityproperty.com/
Click on Portals, in the drop-down box click on “Homeowners Portal.
Scroll down, click on LOG IN, put in your user ID and password
On the left under “My Account” click on “Account settings & my contact info”
Scroll down to your mailing address and check it out. The address showing is where all Country
Roads/City Property correspondence will be sent.
If this is not correct, hit the “Change” button and change it.
You can also check out your e-mail address in this same portal, maybe it needs to be changed.
There is still time to submit your resume as a candidate for the Board of Directors. (One page not
to exceed 250 words) Resume deadline is January 8, 2018 4:00 PM, delivered to the Homeowner’s
