Dear Parents and Community
Wow, I cannot believe we are already half way through the year! We’ve had a very busy semester with some outstanding academic results achieved. I would like to congratulate all of our students on their fantastic effort throughout the semester.
PIRATE DAY
On Friday 16 June, our Student Leaders held ‘Pirate Day’ with the help of Wil Cooper, our Chaplain. Pirate Day was held to raise funds for research into childhood cancer. Thank you to everyone for getting dressed up and bringing some treasure to donate. We raised $75!
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES
Did you know that as of next year, schools are required to teach and report on a new learning area within the WA Curriculum called Digital Technologies? Last Wednesday, Mrs Annaleis Topham held a Professional Development session for staff on Digital Technologies where we discussed the new curriculum and what our students will be expected to learn and demonstrate. We also had time to look through the resources we already have in our school and were amazed at their capabilities. We will begin experimenting with our resources this year so we are ready for the implementation next year. Thank you to Mrs Topham for not only giving up her time to share her expertise but for also updating and organising our resources.
REPORTS
Our teachers have worked tirelessly to write reports that reflect the semester’s
achievement of every child they teach. I would encourage you to sit with your child when reading through their report so you can discuss their progress with them. The reports being sent home outline your child’s achievements throughout the semester whilst also offering constructive advice in order for further improvement. Reports will be sent home with your child tomorrow in a sealed envelope.
JOINT SCHOOLS
Last week, our Year 3-6 students went to Watheroo to participate in the Joint Schools STEM Camp. By all accounts, it was a fantastic event and the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They not only had the opportunity to interact with students from our district but also got to extend their knowledge in the STEM area and complete a series of hands-on workshops. Thank you to Mrs Michelle Barnard for driving the bus to and from the camp, Mr Paul Seymour for attending as a parent helper and to our brilliant staff for attending.
CROSS COUNTRY
On Friday, Pre Primary to Year 6 students will meet in Dandaragan for the annual Colin Moore Cross Country Championships. Students are to report to their teacher by 11:15 for an 11:30 walkthrough of the course. Children are to be in full school uniform with their school hat, which will be taken to the venue by staff.

Wil’s Words
Performing Arts, Pirate Day and The Combined Schools Camp have made for an exciting end
to Term 2 for me. On Pirate Day we made eye patches and pirate hats (which proved a lit-
tle small), played ‘Ship to Shore’ and had a treasure hunt finding out facts about childhood
cancer. We raised $75 and it was great to see the support from all of you dressing up like
pirates.
In less piratey news, for BUZ the Junior Room began looking at more negative emotions;
thinking about feeling sad or ‘bad’. We discussed what makes us feels these ways and how
to identify these emotions in others. We also thought about how it is okay to have these
feelings and what we can do about them. I’m looking forward to dealing with anger and
conflict next term.

NATURE PLAY OPENING Our nature play area is officially finished which is very exciting! We will be holding an official opening on Friday 21 July at 3pm. I hope to see many faces in attendance enjoying our new area.
ATTENDANCE
A BIG congratulations to Tommy McNamara who has not only attended school every day this term but
also this semester. To receive a 100% attendance rate for the whole semester is outstanding! I look
forward to recognising his achievement at our first assembly next term.
TERM 3
Students return to school on Tuesday 18 July with staff returning on Monday 17th for a Staff Develop-
ment Day. Kindy students will resume on Tuesday 18th then begin their three day timetable the following
Monday. Please note that we have had a change to one of our pupil free days in term 3 due to the senior
room attending camp. We will no longer have a pupil free day on the 25th of August, as indicated in the
2017 Information Booklet, it will now be the first day back of term 4, the 9th of October.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday. Stay safe and enjoy the break.
Kind regards
ASHLYN SIVIOUR
