Chairman of ASD EAQG DOA Think Tank Mr. Patrick LE GUIRRIEC:

The ASD DOA Think Tank is producing technical guidelines to become means of

compliance with EASA requirements aiming at simplifying the interface between

DOA (Design organisation Approval) holders and their suppliers.

The standardisation as a prerequisite to the recognition of our work should be

diligent, intelligent and reactive. This ASD-STAN process is complex and has

much length to the ballot and publication process.

ASD-STAN should give more accent on the quality of the technical content than on the dressing, but

nevertheless keeping it as an essential parameter of quality because such documents are often written

by non-professionals.

A big effort has been done in 2016 by the ASD-STAN community that should be pursued in 2017 to bring the

necessary credibility to the activity knowing that more and more industry standards are being published to

support the EASA suite of requirements.

The status of standardisation of DOA Think Tank guidelines is being presented at EASA DOA and product

certification workshop in Cologne 22nd November.

I thank all ASD-STAN experts and managers who help us to progress the DOA work with professionalism and

dedication from the beginning of our working together.

Our common achievement as a premiere in DOA history is the publication of the first standard as prEN 9250

in May 2016. Six other DOA standards will follow in 2017.

"Breaking News:

One of the most interesting innovations in aeronautics is the rapidly growing development of

Unmanned Aircraft Systems UAS. ASD-STAN (D1WG4) is actively working on new standards that

make this technology safe and available for global commercial and industrial use.

In order to support the safe operation of these systems also in rural areas we have started an

initiative for new regulations. The existing "Geo-Fencing" - avoidance of no-fly-zones - is not enough

to secure a safe traffic in those areas. Therefore we have started the navigation support "Geo-

Guiding". This can be described as "roads in the skies".

Autonomously flying systems need to follow these Geo-Guides. In order to enforce such regulations

the UAS need to be identified, similar to the number plate of a car. In the UAS case such identification

shall be a transmitted digital code which contains all necessary information to trace the UAS to its

operator.

The Chinese standardization organization CAPE will work together closely with DIN NL. We want to

establish such coding which will be internationally recognized.

On October 28, 2016 there was a conference at CAPE in Beijing where Bill Holler (ASD-STAN TA

Chairman) could achieve a common agreement to cooperate on this matter. Since most of the

hardware and basic components are being developed in China, our cooperation will have a strong

effect on the future worldwide market."
