General News from the Director

Dear Readers of our Newsletter,

ASD-STAN looks back on a successful year with 85 prEN publications and with the support for 59 EN publications.

Moreover, this month we have published 6 prENs, which you may find in our web-shop.

During the last year we introduced a lot of improvements to speed up the ASD-STAN standard development and

publication process as well the alignment with the CEN process for the EN publication. ASD-STAN team workforce

was increased and the newsletter, website and web-shop were significantly improved to fit the customer needs.

The cooperation with other distributors is extended to distribute the ASD-STAN products on a broader audience and

we provided new products as the various set of standards. Furthermore we are happy to welcome new active

members as well as to intensify the cooperation with ASD on common standard developments. We are looking

forward for any feedback from our audience which will help to improve ASD-STAN in any way.

Finally ASD-STAN Team wishes you a Merry Christmas, a happy holiday season and a successful New Year 2017!

Please note that the ASD-STAN office will be closed from 22nd of December 2016 until 2nd of January 2017.

Thank you and enjoy the read!

With the best regards,

ASD-STAN is a critical actor of the Aerospace Industry. Innovative approaches of ‎ standardisation should become

deliverables of working together in 2017.

The actors of the aerospace industry are more and more attentive to cost-effectiveness ‎of their activity.

Various initiatives are moving towards the sharing of best practices in terms of organisation approvals (e.g. DOA,

MOA, and POA) and in terms of Quality methodology.

The direction taken by EASA shows the way:

- Simplification towards essential requirements;

- Adapted guidance material and acceptable means of compliance;

- Reliance on Industry standards

‎The way is given to the industry to develop the standards they need to comply with the essential

requirements. The industry documents are currently forced by contract since they are not laws, wherever their

scope is technical or qualitative and even if they are existing as standards‎.

The fruitful initiative from ASD Airworthiness Committee‎ with the DOA Think Tank, that may be followed by POA

and MOA working groups, could be followed as well by EAQG (European Aerospace Quality Group) in terms of

standardisation of their documents by ASD-STAN to be recognised as pre-norms and become EASA (European

Aerospace Safety Agency) Acceptable Means of Compliance, thus easier to force and simpler to recognise in terms

of compliance.

The direction taken by the European Aerospace Industry is ‎to promote the use of ASD-STAN as a necessary and

efficient way to develop and publish an industry document shared by all as a good practice and sufficient, as pre-

norm, to be recognised by EASA as an Acceptable Means of Compliance.

‎Next step is to meet 2017 to see how far we can work together and efficiently in that "joint working".

With my best wishes for success in this innovative enterprise!

Patrick Le Guirriec

EAQG European Leader of the Growth strategy with Aviation Authorities.
