REMINDER OF BEFORE SCHOOL
SUPERVISION TIMES
The school yard is not supervised by staff before
8.45a.m.or after 3.45p.m. Please do not send your
child to school, unless prior arrangements have
been made with the school, before 8.45a.m.
Similarly, students who are in the yard
after 3.45p.m. without their parents being
present, will be placed in After-School-
Care for their safety.
Thank you for your co-operation with this
matter.
2016 SCHOOL NUMBERS
It is that time of year when
schools are preparing for the
following year and student
numbers are critical to the
school’s staffing structure. For many of you it must
seem very early in the year, but for schools it is
imperative that we have knowledge of numbers for
staffing and other resources.
I would ask you to please complete the required
Student Admission Enrolment Form if you intend to
enrol a new student at Burwood Heights Primary
School in 2016. This form is available from the
main office or on the school’s website. It can be
forwarded by mail if requested.
We would like to have this information by the
beginning of June if possible.
If you are aware of any families who may live near
you and have not enrolled, would you please advise
them of this timeline?
EDUCATION WEEK READING
I thought it was timely that you should read the
story by Sophia Stefanos from Schoolyard Stories.
If you wish to subscribe to Schoolyard Stories you
can do so by contacting
I can highly recommend you do so.
You are able to listen to the ABC 774 Audio
version also.
The story in question is titled “When we want
for nothing sometimes our good fortunes
are overlooked.”
Why we should all appreciate education.
It is about a mother who was school age when war
broke out. The boys went to school however she
had to look after the sheep. Her thirst for learning
was evident and her mother recognised and helped
her as much as she could.
The story covers her journey through life and is
extremely moving. Sophia writes of her mother’s
commitment to ensuring her own children were well
educated and this took effort and sacrifice. At sixty
years of age, Sophia’s mother attended an adult
learning centre and now loves reading.
This synopsis does not do justice to the article but I
hope it has said enough for you to read it.
EDUCATION WEEK FINISHES
It has been a wonderful week of
celebration with Open Night on
Wednesday night and Prep
2016 Open Morning today.
The classrooms, teaching areas
and kindergarten were opened for you to have a
glimpse of what our youngest members to our
eldest members are achieving.
The Dance, Glee and Choir performances were
outstanding and provided a snapshot of what staff
are teaching the students in their own time.
Thank you for sharing this time with us.
HIGH IMPORTANCE
Please ensure all your child’s clothing, footwear,
bags and hats are all clearly marked in a manner
that names cannot be removed.
This applies to everyone in our school community
(Kindergarten to Year Six).
Please do not allow your child to bring anything of
value to school or of significant importance in case
of loss or damage.
Wednesday 27th of May, is Wacky Wednesday! We
are raising money for State Schools’ Relief so we
ask that you bring a gold coin donation to school.
The State Schools’ Relief is a non-profit
organisation that supports disadvantaged students in
Victorian Government schools.
You can decide to wear anything crazy, wacky or
different. Some ideas could be crazy hair or weird
wardrobe. There will be a paper plane competition
at lunchtime. How far will yours fly?
District Cross Country
On Friday 15th May we had our most talented long distance runners participate in the District Cross Country.
Our students showed stamina and determination as they battled the cold and wet weather at Ruffy Lake Park. A
huge congratulation to the Burwood Heights team, your efforts were outstanding and your sportsmanship was
admired by many. We achieved 6th place overall.
We had two spectacular athletes who will participate in the Division Cross Country on Thursday 4th June. We
wish Nicholas B and Christopher L the very best as they represent our school.

After School Care Program
Program Update 21.05.15
Hi all,
This week was Rainforest Week! We have had so much fun creating our new rainforest
reading and quiet area. The children have done such a good job helping us cutting out and put up leaves, make
animals and fairies and colour in pictures for our new rainforest.
We are very excited to move onto our next project in the coming week, which is Beach Week!
We will be turning our Natural area into a beach display. Hopefully all of our beach themed adventures will
help to warm us up in the recent cold weather!
Due to a lack of interest, OSHClub will not be running a program on Friday the 22nd
this week. We apologise for any inconvenience. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to call us or come in to see us.
Have a great week!
