Principal’s Message
Dear Parents,
HARMONY DAY
Harmony Day Friday 22 March Harmony Day is intended to show cohesion and inclusion in Australia and promote a tolerant and culturally diverse society. Harmony Day began in 1999, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The continuing message of harmony Day is 'Everyone Belongs'. It is about community participation, inclusiveness, celebrating diversity, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. This year’s theme is: What is culture? Thank you to the many parents who participated on the day. Also thank you to Maria Vuksan-Cusa, Claire Gardner and our student councillors for organising our fantastic assembly. Photos will be included in the next newsletter for parents.
Voluntary Contributions The $60 contribution for Kindergarten students will need to be paid so that students maintain their place in the program. As this is a non-
compulsory year of schooling, parents are required to pay these funds to the front office.
On Entry Assessment Students in Pre Primary have concluded the on entry assessment. Data is being collated and reports will be sent home in the last week. Duplicate copies are also available for each family that requires a copy for Mum and Dad.
Change of Telephone Number Recently we had new telephones installed throughout the school. As a result, the school telephone number will be changing to (08) 9487 9000 from the 11th March 2019. The old number will continue to connect you to the school front office for a year after the change. However, you will get a message reminding you that the number has changed if you continue to use the old number.
IT’S NOT OKAY TO STAY AWAY Research tells us that in order to progress at school students need to attend 90% of the school year. This provides continuity for learning. Children stay home if they are sick.
SMS – Absence Messages For the parents who would like to SMS
to provide a reason for your child’s
absence, the phone number is
0418 948 875.
Please use this number rather than email for daily absences or short absences including illness or appointments. Staff collect the information from the SMS. Otherwise the staff have to cut and paste the information from one system to the other.

In our Art classes, students in years 5 and 6 will be preparing entries for the Gwenyth Ewens Art Competition which is organised by the City of Fremantle, through the Children's Library. Our entries will be submitted as a group, through the school.
The following information has been provided by the Children's Library:
We are once again inviting all students in years 5 and 6 to submit one A3 sized entry (painting or drawing) for the award, which depicts part or whole of an historic building in the Fremantle area, which can include creatures and plants endemic to the Fremantle area.
Winning entries and prizes: The judges will choose two students from each participating school to receive a gift voucher for attendance at one of the many Kids Courses run by the Fremantle Arts Centre, to further their skills development. Judging will take place on Tuesday 2 July.
All entries submitted to the Award will be available to see at a public exhibition at the Moores Gallery from Tuesday afternoon 2 July to Sunday 7 July. The awards ceremony and exhibition opening will be held in the Moores Gallery on the evening of Tuesday 2 July. The winning entries will be announced at the awards ceremony. Help Joel Minus Hair make a difference. 18 years ago I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, I went through 6 months of chemotherapy and radio therapy. I was declared in remission and the cancer hasn’t returned. During treatment I lost the bulk of my hair but thankfully it has grown back. I have made the division to make a difference by cutting and donating my hair to be made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition.
____________________________________________________________ Our School, Our Future
I’ll be chopping off all my hair on WEDNESDAY MARCH 27th at lunch time in the undercover area. Wigs are expensive, so by making a donation to Variety-the Children’s Charity, you can help provide a wig to a child in need. Thank you! Should you wish to donate here is Joel’s link: https://hairwithheart.everydayhero.com/au/joel-minus-hair
