Return to Sender – An Exhibition to celebrate Elvis Presley’s 80th anniversary was opened by guest-of-honour Mr Richard Eu, Chairman of National Museum of Singapore Advisory Board on 20 January 2015. A long-time fan of Elvis, Mr Eu surprised the guests with a rocking rendition of Hound Dog.

It was a night of nostalgia with Edvis, an Elvis fan, crooning ‘the King’s’ songs throughout the event. EdvisMafia band members, Ernesto, Gregory and Richard, entertained the guests till late. RETURN TO SENDER

– An ExhibitionA tribute to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll

This exhibition highlights Elvis Presley, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The story traces the life of a man who launched a new music genre through his passion for singing. With his unique style and good looks, he captured the hearts and attention of a huge following. On display are objects from a private collector who started the collection around the same time as Elvis’s discovery.

A sampling of the many products made from parts of goat and sheep.

Meet and touch Dolly, the most

famous sheep in the world!

The goat and the sheep appear in the Western horoscope as Capricorn and Aries respectively. Can you spot your star sign?

Feed the goat with

and vegetables!

Did you know that goats and sheep have been domesticated for more than 10,000 years? They are important animals, giving us meat, milk, wool and skin.

In Singapore, goats and sheep are sacrificed during Hari Raya Haji as part of the Korban ritual. Until the end of the 20th century, goat’s milk sellers were a familiar sight on the streets of Little India. Today, we can get our fill of goat’s milk from Singapore’s only goat farm, Hay Dairies in Kranji, or from supermarkets. These are just some interesting facts you will learn from this fun and educational exhibition.

Designed to excite and engage children aged five years and above, the exhibition uses stamps and interactive exhibits to bring visitors into a colourful, immersive world of goats and sheep. Hands-on, multisensory exhibits encourage the little ones to explore and investigate, while providing opportunities for parent-and-child bonding. On display are over 300 beautiful stamps and philatelic materials from all over the world, dating from 1966 to 2015.

So what are you waiting for? Come celebrate the Year of the Goat/Sheep with us!

Top entries of this year’s National Stamp Collecting Competition (NSCC) will be displayed at the SINGAPORE 2015 World Stamp Exhibition. The exhibition will be held from 14 – 19 August 2015 at Sands Expo & Convention Centre. An excellent opportunity not to be missed!

Last year, three outstanding exhibits from Holy Innocents’ High, Serangoon Secondary and Yishun Primary were chosen from NSCC to represent Singapore at the Malaysia 2014 World Youth Stamp Exhibition. All three exhibits were awarded with the Silver-Bronze award. Our heartfelt congratulations to the students!

NSCC allows students to sharpen learning and thinking skills such as language development, writing, research and creativity. Participants get to compete with their peers to win awards and the school championship trophy. Students work in groups of four to submit philatelic exhibits and narratives based on a theme of their choice such as nature, culture and technology.

Workshops are held at the museum to prepare students for the competition. Teachers, please get in touch with Lily at & 6513 7347 or * [email protected] for more information.
