It was a fun day where we listened to some inspirational extraordinary young leaders from Aotearoa, Dr Lehan Stemmet, Hana Tapiata, Ronnie Taulato, Chrstian Gallen, and Kings. The extended bus route out to Pukerewa Station began on Monday and appears to be going well. Justine has noted the students’ positivity about this additional service, coming to school and regular routine, as have the teachers. Kia ora,

Last Tuesday I accompanied our year 7 & 8’s to the National Young Leaders Day in Hamilton. This year’s theme ‘He aha te kai ā te rangatira? He korero, he korero, he korero. What is the food of a leader? It is conversations.’ This whakatauki tells us a lot about what makes an awesome leader. It’s about being someone who takes the time to listen to and learn from others. It was a fun day where we listened to some inspirational extraordinary young leaders from Aotearoa, Dr Lehan Stemmet, Hana Tapiata, Ronnie Taulato, Chrstian Gallen, and Kings.

Justine has noted the students’ positivity about this additional service, coming to school and regular routine, as have the teachers. ROOM TWO

The last two weeks students of Room 2 have the pleasure of Matua Derek in Mrs Murphy’s absence and are learning all about the wild animals of Africa. This week’s writing with Mr. B. has focused on planning, adding detail and sentence structure. The students spoke and then wrote about some of their learning with Matua Derek. We worked on and wrote the beginning together.

On Monday & Tuesday Matua Derek taught us about all the different wild animals that live in Africa. We learnt that the Hurricanes, the African Brown Eagle protect other birds and their eggs in the trees from the huge lizards. The Hurricanes are so big they are like a vulture. I love them so much. The Hurricanes take care of other birds.

Cheetahs hunt for rabbits. A cheetah leaps in a straight line, a rabbit can turn quickly but a cheetah can’t so it can lose it’s meal.

Springboks can jump ten meters high because they are really fast. This means Springboks rarely get killed by lions, tigers, crocodiles and cheetahs.

The Hurricanes are strong, large, fast flyers and have sharp eyes and claws.

These birds live in Zambezia with hundreds of other birds in trees on cliffs

and rocks with waterfalls. It’s a special place for birds it would be so noisy

but beautiful.

Brown Eagle protect other birds and their eggs in

the trees from the huge lizards. They are just like

police dogs because they protect all the smaller

birds. Lions do not eat people but they can kill

them by scratching or knocking them down.

Lions can hunt for meat. The lions can scratch people if they are found by themselves,

knocked over and even killed but they don’t eat people.

their eggs in the trees from the huge lizards. The Hurricanes are black and blue, they are fast and they can run.

Lions can be dangerous and they can scratch too. Don’t take a picture because it could

scratch you.

On Monday & Tuesday Matua Derek taught us about all the different wild animals that live in Africa. We learnt that the Hurricanes, the African Brown Eagle protect other birds and their eggs in the trees from the huge lizards. The Eagle can be very fast flyers and they are very big birds.

Lions can be very dangerous and fast. If you are in a lion’s den the lions will sniff you any time now.

Cheetahs run very fast but they can’t turn fast because they only run straight. When

they are chasing a rabbit or a meerkat, the rabbit will dodge the cheetah and the

meerkat will dig a hole in the ground and disappear. You or I will call it running but

cheetahs actually leap. Cheetahs do not go hunting in the middle of the day because it is too hot.

Matua Derek does not like people calling lions ‘man eaters’ because they do not eat people they only

will kill people.

The cheetah lives in Africa. They hunt rabbits who zig zag across the plains,

hard to catch because they run in straight lines and can’t turn quickly so

some get away. Cheetahs hunt springboks too and are easier to catch.

Lions are very, very dangerous, you do not want to get too close or to be

alone.

TEACHERS STRIKE

We greatly appreciate the community support that we have already received following the

decision by teachers and principals to strike on Wednesday 29 May 2019.

The decision to take further strike action was not taken lightly by any of us. For the first time,

both primary and secondary teachers are striking together because the crisis in education

hits us all very hard and we need the Government to understand how serious it is.
