Happening at SJL

Dear readers,

Following its recent strategic trends, SJL Maghreb has set the objectives of consolidating its historical position in Morocco and contributes significantly to the evolution and development of the sector. In this ambitious vision, the company aspires to make of Morocco a hub and a gateway to further strengthen its presence in the region.

To this end, in recent months the group has initiated three major actions:

1. An internal reorganization, including the appointment of a Director General for Africa

2. The launch of an image study to assess the positioning and image of the group in the eyes of its stakeholders

3. Partnership with a private think tank to conduct an in-depth reflection on the challenges and performance challenges of Moroccan industry through the logistics professions

And so I would like to thank all employees who contributed, through their commitment and professionalism to consolidate our image of excellence. But I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to all our partners for their engagement and for the interest they have kindly granted to various studies by SJL Maghreb. Different opinions and recommendations on our group, but also on the sector, give us real opportunities to enrich the common experiences and jointly consider closer collaboration.

After this mission, I am delighted that this initiative has been welcomed, and is, to this end, a new step in our strategy of improvement. Study results confirm that all our partners are fully committed to a constructive and ambitious dynamics for both the industry and for our future relations.

Mohammed DIDOUCH, General Manager Africa, SJL Maghreb

Cross-Docking Cross-docking is an approach that tends to reduce inventory on the supply chain while maintaining the availability of the product line, starting from the needs of the consumer. It thus enables retailers to optimize their deliveries by entering their platforms trucks full burst from their suppliers. •Reduction of stocks

•Increase the life of the product in linear

•Increased product availability

•Gain an average of 20% over the shelf life of a product throughout the chain

GPA, A collaborative approach to supply chain management The GPA (Vendor Managed Inventory) is a form of organization in which a vendor and client jointly involved in the management of customer supply. The customer in this context agrees to cede partially or totally the management of restocking its warehouses to its supplier. It is a form of association that are more and more between manufacturers and traders :• Shorter delivery times, as the replenishment order

processing time is reduced• Better anticipation of production quantities in the

industrial,• Lower stocks at the distributor, as with the

manufacturer,• Radius supplied more regularly and on time (less

breakage).

3. Ensure consumer satisfaction

The GPAThe cross docking and CAD are the most common methods to management Supply.

Computer-aided control (CAC) Computer-aided control is a tool for automatic calculation of net requirements which is fed by the data of sales recorded in stores or warehouse product releases, including replenishment parameters previously defined by users (seasonality, safety stock, Linear capacity, minimum stock, maximum stock, calculation frequency ...). Benefits CAD :• Reduced storage costs throughout the supply

chain• Decreased straight out rate• Lower costs and errors associated with processing

Samsung has yet to achieve outstanding authorizations

The device is very serious and has been formalized through a statement released by Samsung Argentina. This concept was developed with Russian Lebedev, a partner in the South Korean giant, who had already presented this project six years ago. It is now life-size testing. Now, Samsung has obtained outstanding authorizations. To be almost certain to get the South Korean giant could make these demands in several countries. The concept is so new that the authorities may struggle to trust the Safety Truck or think that this is a simple gadget. The screen on the back of the trailer of the truck allow

drivers located behind to see what happens to the truck, including sunlight, thanks to a very bright giant screen. This project appears to function but may never be visible on our roads because it will probably not viable economically.

Other methods are also being developed such as the ability to cars located behind the truck to view directly on their dashboard what is in front of the truck in front of another car. In the latter case, it would be cars that are equipped with front camera, which would represent a cheaper cost and logistics to implement.

All sectoral plans, initiated by authorities, consider transport and logistics as important links for the implementation of real export industries. Thus, motorway and rail networks, ports and airports enable to safely join all areas of the value chain. Meanwhile, the business climate attracts more investors in search of competitiveness and proximity to Europe and Africa. That is why Tangier has been able, thanks to its geographical location, to position itself as an unavoidable point of transit. This dynamic has driven transport and logistics operators to reorganize and strengthen their positions to support industrialists.

The competitive environment in the domestic market was crucial to offer services that meet expectations (governments, industry, associations, etc.). To this end, and since 2011, the national transport

strategy has consolidated this vision and support the sector in its reorganization (quality, professionalism,

rejuvenation of the fleet, specialization, innovation, standards, etc).

However, the sector remains deeply plagued by a very resistant black market, and is facing financial constraints which are often limiting. This is mainly the

consequence of a relatively low productive offer and the reluctance of SMEs to outsource their logistics. Also, the availability of land complicates the deployment of sustainable logistics platforms with high added value.

The creation of the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Logistics aims to steer the restructuring of the sector, through the establishment of effective governance and support of its actors. In this sense,

some economic operators have taken the initiative to address their recommendations and share their vision

What is your assessment of the evolution of the logistics sector in Morocco over the last 10 years? The logistics sector is the strategic challenge of the progress of any successful economy. The national strategy of logistics competitiveness development is part of the era of big projects desired by the Kingdom of Morocco. Internationalization requires it. Morocco has performed well over the past decade a springboard to development of transport infrastructure (highways, ports, railways ...) and has taken important steps in the logistics reform process areas. Morocco has currently assets to become a logistics hub for Europe, the Maghreb, Africa and especially North, West and Central Africa.

What competitive advantages can the logistic function provide to Moroccan economy? The logistics function is present in every value creation chains, and provides better value for money. For Morocco, whose advantage is mainly due to its location - facilitating exportations- logistics should allow the reduction of transaction costs, improving the efficiency of international trade and the competitiveness of domestic firms. Logistics will offer Moroccan economic development of its national multi-stream network of logistic zones, optimization and massification of flows of goods around the logistics platforms, streamlining

Tell us what you think

and increasing its storage capacity, seamless access to public land intended for logistics areas, a solid education and creating jobs in the logistics business, and especially governance and regulation of the sector. This will allow Morocco to sustain the implementation of its sectoral plans and increase its competitiveness to a greater presence on the international market.

What consistency can you find between the purchasing function and the strategy of industrial companies? What are the specifics of Automotive and Aerospace sectors?Between buying and industrial companies based strategy, this is an optimized approach focused on final consumer demand rather than on the needs of the suppliers / producers. It is therefore a sequential approach to management, but an integration of «supplier’s supplier and customer’s customer « that enables global optimization of physical flows and associated flows of information of all stakeholders in the supply chain.

Between the automotive and aerospace industry, manufacturers and suppliers are based on improving the chain of production, processing changes on the assembly line, the implementation of continuous improvement methods (just-in-time) and direct deliveries from suppliers in the chain.

Abdelhamid OUASSIFHead of Purchasing & Maintenance Service

What roles of the purchasing function within Transport and Logistics companies?Given the proven importance of purchases and their relative value to the turnover, the role of purchasing in this type of strategy is paramount. Guarantor of a significant portion of costs, the purchasing department has to perfectly control their evolution factors, namely an economy of scale (Volume Vs Power of negotiation), liaison and coordination with suppliers ( a planned manner -Protocol agreement, contract ... -or the treatment of emergencies) in the medium and long term, interconnection with other business units (for the purposes of centralization of procurement requests, dominations costs and trading volumes), depending on predetermined schedule campaigns, the evolution of the company’s growth areas and of urgent needs, and especially a permanent search for relevant and engaged suppliers.
