WISCONSIN STATE FFA ALUMNI PRESIDENT
Basket Sauk Prairie Donated to Auction
Congratulations to Mark Ladsten as he became the Wisconsin FFA Alumni President for 2018-19. Mark comes with experience in agriculture as he served as the FFA President in high school. He furthered his education in agriculture at the collegiate level and works for Middleton Cooperative in agriculture sales. [Mark is also engaged to the Past WI FFA President Sally Albers and she is studying to be an agriculture teacher.] Mark brings an incredible amount of understanding of FFA and agriculture education at the state level and we wish him well this year as he serves the State of Wisconsin. The Sauk Prairie FFA Alumni is there supporting him throughout his time serving. Book next February for the convention!
Each year Sauk Prairie donates a basket for the auction at the WI FFA Alumni Convention. This year it was various outdoor yard games with “refreshments” to be enjoyed while playing the yard games. Thank you Sue and Terry Slotty for putting this together. It also brought in quite a bit of auction income as the Foundation Executive Director John Hromyak purchased it and donated it back to be resold. Thank you John!

The above beautiful hand-made quilt was a gift to Troy Talford from his 2017-2018 Officer Team. At the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony the Officer Team surprised Mr. Talford with this delightful, handmade quilt made of FFA T-shirts throughout the year. The quilt was made by the Officer Team which was lead by President Sarah Albers. What a wonderful way to say “thank you” to Mr. Talford and thank him for all he does for the agriculture education program at Sauk Prairie.

There will not be a meeting but we will have a social hour after the tour. The tour will begin at 6:30 pm and we meet at the drive in facility across the road. Hope you can make it.

FFA HONORARY DEGREE GOES TO UNITED DREAMS DAIRY AND OWNERS TIM AND LISA
EVERT AND RICK AND RONDA LEHMAN.
United Dreams Dairy and its owners Tim and Lisa Evert and Rick and Ronda Lehman have been a strong supporter of the Sauk Prairie FFA program for many years. They open their farm up to the FFA members and the fourth graders in the district to tour their farm to really show what production agriculture looks like for the past 10 years. It comes as no surprise they have helped purchase and house materials for the members to use at the Sauk County fair as well. They not only help members directly, but they are also part of the Sauk Prairie FFA Alumni where they actively help with the tractor pulls and sportsman’s banquet which are major fundraisers. Any time you ask these individuals to assist their local agriculture program, they are there for the agriculture education department in a heartbeat. [Note that Tim wore his FFA jacket too.]

MEETING HELD AT TOWER ROCK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MARCH 8
Thank you to the Tower Rock Elementary teachers involved with agriculture education. What an incredible job they are doing to further their agriculture program. During the tour of the facility we saw agriculture in several classrooms from decorated doors to specific areas and ag-based worker positions such as Milk Hauler, Nutritionist, Forester, Tractor Driver, Equipment Mechanic. Teachers make the students more aware of ag by sending students to the “Tool Shed” for their crayon box/scissors, or going to the “Equine Pen” for reading, etc. Tower Rock already received a $10,000 grant from Monsanto which they have used and only requested $400 from the Alumni to buy seedling heat mats, plant racks for the windows in the ag room along with stuffed animals for the stalls in the “make believe” barn area. Ms. Kinnamon, Ms. Liegel, Ms. Anderson and Ms. Markley did an excellent presentation along with a building tour before the March 8 meeting which began at 7:15 pm. These teachers need more prep time paid in order to further agriculture in this school. Superintendent Cliff Thompson was present at the tour/presentation and commended the teachers saying “vision is a dream, reality is action” which these teachers are doing. Thompson

SPORTSMEN BANQUET COMMITTEE BUSY
PLANNING 11th YEAR EVENT
The Sportsmen Committee has been busy preparing for the 11th Year of the local Sauk Prairie FFA Alumni Sportsmen Banquet. Committee members met in February to prepare dinner ticket letters for mailing. The deadline for all responses was March 3. At that time any open spots were offered to the next ones on the current waiting list. The volunteers have already been penciled in to work the evening of the event. Contact Mike Dunse ([email protected]) if you want to volunteer that evening. Thank you to the committee for their time spent planning this successful fundraiser.
Philippe Coquard accepts cinnamon rolls from alumni volunteer Nancy Liegel (below).
[Tower Rock Elementary continued]
commended high school agriculture teacher Troy Talford for all his work and reminded the Alumni the Talford “speaks so high of the Alumni” who assist him whenever possible. Thompson continued noting “the Alumni is one of the top in the state and for that you should be commended for all you do.” We believe we make a difference!
