a spLash oF CoLour Adult literacy competition that covered the whole of the Highlands and we are very very pleased to an-nounce that 2 of our students entered the competition and did really well as both were selected and has their work published in the book, that is currently on sale.A member of our work club, has been successfully employed on the Nigg Training Academy. Two of our eSOl learners have also completed their British Citizenship Test.
user number at the LearnIng Centre groWsOver the past year we have been working very hard behind the scenes to develop and promote classes that the community want to attend. In May 2011 the centre lost vital funding towards its courses when IlA (Individual learner Accounts) stopped its fund-ing for leisure based classes and workshops, this was very hard for us we had spent a long time encourag-ing users to apply for the £200 funding per year to pay for the classes. We had to take time to think how we could make the centre thrive without having to charge users high class costs. We applied for external funding and have to say a big thank you to lairg Wind farm that helped us to cover the cost of our language classes, Scottish community foundation and its “Make a Splash” fund for helping us with our craft classes, and Highland council for helping cover costs for other activities within the centre. We are now very pleased to say that we are now able to offer classes in Rogart, Bonar Bridge and Ardgay as well as from our base in lairg.

Just to say a huge thank you for giving me the chance to join the Writing Group. It is exactly what I have been needing and has given me the confidence to have a go at a book. Maybe when this week’s homework is looked at I may not be quite so confident but hey ho I’m there to learn!!Thanks again I am loving it.Cheers Eileen
