Issue No.10 Summer Term '15 What we've been up to… 2nd Chailey News 1 It’s been another great term with lot’s of fun evening’s to take our mind othe cold and dark outside! We started the term with our usual games night to get everyone back in to the swing of things, followed by a glow in the dark evening during which we made our own lava lamps and experimented with glowing face paint. No photos of this one I’m afraid, it was too dark! We then had a week oas 8 of our regular leaders very unreasonably decided to go on holiday at the same time! 8 of them together! Back from the slopes and amazingly all in one piece we spent happy evening playing giant battle ships which involved marking a grid out on the floor and assign roles of aircraft carrier, frigate etc. And doing our best to take out the other team with a fine blend of skill, tactics and cheating! For a bit more love and less war we had a great valentine’s disco the following week. The disco was kindly hosted by Harry Stewart ably assisted by Ciaron and Bradley who were DJs for the night. We were joined by our great friends from Barcombe Scouts for an excellent evening of sharing new games. We showed Barcombe how we play our very own version of real life Cluedo and the Barcombe crew taught us a game involving dice and cups and a great deal of stealing from other teams which (I think) was part of the game! Having saved all of our recycling up for a few weeks, we had plenty of noisy rubbish for an evening of Stomp music, whilst definitely erring on the side of cacophony rather than symphony, we had great fun! Andy organised a ready steady cook evening, the pink colouring spread from the coconut ice onto noses and cheeks, the biscuits and chocolate in the rocky road ending up being worn by all, and the icing sugar in the peppermint cream formed a very sticky floor. Liz kept the resulting sweets in her classroom until they set, there seemed to be some missing, I wonder why! All in all we had a good messy time. 2 ND CHAILEY NEWS What we've been up to | New Kit Store | Summer Term

It’s been another great term with lot’s of fun

evening’s to take our mind off the cold and

dark outside!

We started the term with our usual games

night to get everyone back in to the swing of

things, followed by a glow in the dark

evening during which we made our own lava

lamps and experimented with glowing face

paint. No photos of this one I’m afraid, it

was too dark!

We then had a week off as 8 of our regular

leaders very

unreasonably

decided to go on

holiday at the same

time! 8 of them

together!

Back from the

slopes and amazingly all in one piece we

spent happy evening playing giant battle

ships which involved marking a grid out on

the floor and assign roles of aircraft carrier,

frigate etc. And doing our

best to take out the other

team with a fine blend of

skill, tactics and cheating!

For a bit more love and

less war we had a great

valentine’s disco the

following week. The disco

was kindly hosted by Harry Stewart ably

assisted by Ciaron and Bradley who were DJs

for the night.

We were joined by

our great friends

from Barcombe

Scouts for an

excellent evening

of sharing new

games.

We showed Barcombe how we play our very

own version of real life Cluedo and the

Barcombe crew taught us a game involving

dice and cups and a great deal of stealing

from other teams which (I think) was part

of the game!

Having saved all of our

recycling up for a few weeks,

we had plenty of noisy rubbish

for an evening of Stomp music,

whilst

definitely erring on the

side of cacophony

rather than symphony,

we had great fun!

Andy organised a ready steady cook evening,

Summer Camp Plans are underway As reported in the last letter, this year’s camp will be held at Plumpton Agricultural nestling at the base of the south downs. We have stayed at Plumpton a few times in the past and always had a wonderful time with plenty of space, lovely views and lot’s of animals to meet.

If you’re interested in coming to camp this year or in visiting us, please let us know as soon as possible as we need to ensure all the necessary paperwork is submitted in good time.

A lovely gift Earlier in March I was contacted via our new website by Mr Stevens asking me to let him know where to send a donation as his brother had recently passed away and had been a keen scout in his younger days and they wanted to see some money go to the Scouts. A few weeks later we received a cheque with a lovely letter. Thank you so much to Mark and Norman Stevens. We will be sure to put your brother Michael’s money to good use!

New storage

Regular readers may remember that a few years ago

we reported that we had built a new kit store for all

of our camping equipment as the building we used to

use was being redeveloped (that building is now

home to ‘Futures’). The new store has worked out

wonderfully for us making the process of loading and

unloading equipment so much easier. Unfortunately

though we have found we don’t have enough space to

store some of the larger equipment we own (more

about this later). After a plea to school, we were

kindly given another plot next to our existing stores

on which we could build a new store. The Friends of

Chailey generously donated us the money to have the

new store built and our friend and long term

supporter Pete at Barnard Fencing gave us a great

deal on a brand new store.

Something that takes up a lot of space for us but is a

great thing to have is our set of 3 adapted bikes,

these get a great deal of use at our summer camp but

otherwise not so much. Parents are reminded that if

you would ever like to borrow one of the bikes for a

day, weekend or week away, you would be more than

welcome.
