35TH FCYPAA NEWSLETTER Issue 4 35 TH EVER FCYPAA NEWSLETTER ISSUE 4 ALE H. TESTIMONIAL MIAMI EDITION YPAA has directly impacted my sobriety since day one. The first AA meeting I ever went to was Miami Young People's and the only reason I decided to give it a try is because I had hope that people my age would be there. I couldn't believe that I could be an alcoholic at the age of 20 and I certainly couldn't believe that there were any others! Needless to say, it absolute love at first sight! Sure I had some reservations to work through about myself but NONE about the beautiful energy that I felt in that room. They welcomed me with open arms and the passion that they had about sober living soon started to leak into my heart. The people that were involved in the Miami bid for FCYPAA showed such enthusiasm and genuine excitement about the conference and what it did for their sobriety that I was able to entrust my life to these strangers for that weekend. Little did I know they were soon to become my best friends and examples along this journey of sobriety. I couldn't be more grateful for that moment of blind faith. As soon as I got back from FCYPAA I attended the next business meeting and became a part of the Miami Bid! One of my biggest fears when first getting sober was celebrating AND enjoying my 21st birthday without old people, places and things. I remember telling my sponsor that we should have a sleepover on the night of my birthday to ensure that I would stay sober. She told me to have some patience and keep doing the work. Before I knew it, my birthday came around, I was only six months sober and old people, places and things were not even relevant in my life anymore. I spent a blessed birthday surrounded by the new friendships I had formed in YPAA. YPAA shattered all the misconceptions I had about getting sober since day. I thought recovery would be boring, lonely and a burden. I can truly say that it was in these groups that I first felt genuine love, unity, hope, and experienced true fun! Never have I felt the sense of belonging and purpose that YPAA has given me. Never did I think I would find such community, service, selflessness and hope as I did in YPAA. It was because of these groups that I was able to let go of my biggest fears and doubts and really start to see the possibility of getting and staying sober! I am forever grateful to these groups who bowed my head, softened my heart and strengthened my soul purely by example. Today, I am just grateful for another day to strive to do God's will as they do every day. My sole purpose is to continue on their footsteps and help the next alcoholic who walks through the door and for that I am eternally grateful. It's a pretty great FU**ING purpose!!! Haha I Had Hope By Ale H.
