“THE FUTURE IS OURS”
Newsletter
20th February 2020 Term 1 Week 4 (Issue No.3)
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
VISION: North Haven Public School, in partnership with our community, promotes and provides a dynamic, future-focused learning environment fostering equity and excellence. Our school will deliver opportunities for every
student to become a successful learner and a caring, confident, creative individual.
Dear parents and community members, P & C The Annual General Meeting was held on Monday and we congratulate and welcome Amanda Hill as our continuing President. Karen Gilbert has accepted the role of Secretary and Rachael Long will be our Treasurer. Melanie Woollam will take on our Uniform Coordinator role and Bonnie Yonon will continue to head up the Canteen Committee, supported by Carol Gilman who will look after the financial side of the canteen operations. Thank you to you all for helping to shape your child’s education and also for volunteering your time to support North Haven PS in continuing to be the amazing school that it is. P&C meetings will continue to be held on the Monday of WEEK 4 of each term at 2:00pm. Everyone is welcome. Family BBQ Night What a wonderful way to start our year, with many adults and children enjoying the evening. It was a great chance to meet new faces and I would like to thank staff, families, students and P&C for finding the time to begin 2020 in such a positive way. Family Conferences Notes will go home on Friday so please ensure you book a time online. We would like to see all families participate in this important partnership activity. Your child will be working on their personalised learning goals over the next few weeks. If you have any problems with the booking process please call the office. 2020 School Fees Schools fees are voluntary contributions that families make to the school. These funds assist us in providing resources for our students. Each year the P&C Committee
assists the school in setting these contributions. For 2020, they are: Individual: $50 Family: $100. Families are able to pay these contributions either via cash, cheque, EFTPOS or POP payments. Keep Your Child Safe Online Help your children safely navigate their digital world and educate them to avoid harmful online experiences. Explore websites, games, apps and social media together and set some rules. Your support and guidance can give your children the confidence to make sound decisions online ― and ask for help when they need it. In the newsletter over the next 3 weeks we will be providing advice from the Australian eSafety Commissioner. Part 1 is below: Be engaged, open and supportive • Get involved. Share online time with your children as part of family life. Play games together. Talk about favourite apps, games or websites. • Keep lines of communication open. Ask about their online experiences, who they are talking to and whether they are having any issues. • Reassure your child they can always come to you, no matter what. Let them know you will not cut off internet access if they report feeling uncomfortable or unsafe when online ― this is a real concern that may stop your child from communicating with you openly. • If you notice a change in behaviour or mood, talk to your child about it. If you are concerned, consider seeking professional help ― from your GP, a psychologist or school counsellor. Have a great week! Kind regards,
Kate Brace Relieving Principal
Student of the Week Awards These awards, in the form of a ribbon, are presented to one child from each class, during the separate stage assemblies each week. Student of the Week Awards are presented to students who have shown good citizenship practice in the classroom and who have been working in a sensible manner with their school work. Each class group and their teacher may take a slightly different approach to the selection of the student and the way in which their award is recognised in the classroom, depending on the grade and the nature of the class. It is hoped that by the end of the year each student in the class will have displayed the traits necessary to receive this award (some may earn it more than once). While there may be more than one student eligible for the award each week we limit the number to one per class so as not to distract from the value and merit of earning this recognition.
Lost Property Could families please ensure all containers, drink bottles, hats and jumpers are labelled with their child’s name. This makes returning lost items much easier. The lost property box is located on the balcony near the reading room and students may search for missing belongings before school, at recess and lunchtime, and after school (not during class time).

NEXT TIME—Blue Day (5th March)
Car Parking Families are reminded that a family car park is provided at the school, (adjacent to the school oval) for your use. We ask parent/carers to support us by not stopping or dropping off in the bus bay area or blocking the staff car park. A disabled parking space is available in the staff car park and we ask families not to use this parking space unless they have a disabled parking permit. We also request that the grass area near the school crossing not be used for parking. This area is a heavy pedestrian zone and cars reversing off the grass pose a safety risk. Thank you for your support.

Sports News Hastings/Camden Haven District Swimming
NHPS was well represented at last week’s Hastings Camden Haven district swimming carnival in Port Macquarie. Our swimmers proudly wore the new NHPS swimming caps and it was great to see the “blue caps” being very competitive. Lots of personal best times were recorded. Our fantastic results were - Neave O’Brien who came 1st in 11 year girls freestyle, 2nd 11 year girls butterfly and 3rd 11 year girls backstroke 8 year old freestyler Zeke Woollam took over five seconds off from his winning school time to take out the 8 year boys 50m freestyle. Isaac Luke came a close 2nd in the senior boys 50m breaststroke and is out to reverse that close second at the Lower North Coast Carnival. Our Junior girls 4 x 50m relay team of Molly Walker, Evie Dent, Akayla Bevan and Abbey Hickey were placed 4th in a very exciting race! Congratulations to all of our swimmers! Representing your school at these carnivals brings out the best in you! We are proud of you all. Thanks to our great support team of parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles, who enjoyed a great day. A special thank you to those who volunteered to time keep. The H/CH PSSA and NHPS thank you for your support.
PSSA LNC Boys Cricket
Promising North Haven cricketers Beau Sanbrook and Isaac Luke will attend the Lower North Coast cricket trials next Monday. Both boys were selected to represent the Hastings/Camden Haven PSSA cricket team late last year. Beau and Isaac will be eyeing off spots in the PSSA LNC cricket team to take part in the North Coast championships later this term. All the best boys.
PSSA Lower North Coast Swimming
Zeke Woollam (8 years freestyle) and Isaac Luke (50m backstroke) represented NHPS and the PSSA Hastings/Camden Haven district at yesterday’s Lower North Coast swimming carnival, held in Kempsey. Both boys came 5th in their respective events. Great swimming boys.
