We have recruited some wonderful students from each of these locations over the past year, who add so much to our school. All these trips have been really productive and we are looking forward to seeing some of the young people we met in due course. Mr Ayres in Lviv Tech update It has been a busy half term for our IT Support partners 101 Systems. They are in the process of ironing out any remaining gaps in our 5G wireless system, installing a new additional server to boost the performance of our school’s Management Information System and security programs, and of course have helped us deploy 5 IT suites-worth of devices successfully this year (6, if you include teachers’ computers!). By and large the dramatic increase in student numbers we have enjoyed has not adversely affected our infrastructure, although one does not switch on 5 IT suites-worth of device simultaneously without the occasional issue. Parents who have purchased the HP and Windows devices through our portal (https://myddeltoncollege. store.academia.co.uk) should all have now received a registration email to ensure your computers are fully covered by their extended warranty and insurance. This portal is also where you can make any warranty or insurance claims you need to during the life of your child’s device. We are currently in discussions with our suppliers about some of the problems we have observed with our ‘legacy stock’ of MS Surface 3s, to ensure strong support from them to keep the devices in good condition for the remainder of their lease. In the meantime anyone is free to use our portal to purchase a replacement. The portal devices come with a 3-year warranty and enhanced insurance pack, with no excess and multiple claims allowed. Most of the devices available through the portal differ from those you can buy from the high street, with improved internal specifications and ruggedized cases. Buying them through our portal guarantees that they have the correct version of the operating system for our network, that they have a standard build quality and that we can use our secure software image to maintain them and install software we need to deliver our particular brand of education. Please ensure, if you buy a new device for your children for school, that they are purchased through our portal for this reason. Techniquest visitLast week, in Year 5 and 6, we went on a trip to Techniquest in Wrexham where we learnt lab skills. We had such a good time using indicators to test PH and learning about lab safety while using Bunsen burners!

Beth Shalom National Holocaust Centre and MuseumYear 9 visited Beth Shalom National Holocaust Centre and Museum this week, where they listened to a survivor from Auschwitz.

They have been studying this term in Religious Studies major religious questions including the problem of evil and suffering. Likewise through their History course, they have become aware of the origins of the Second World War. The visit to Beth Shalom is designed as a precursor for GCSE work next year for prospective students in both RS and History, and as an important part of general education for all pupils whatever their options next September.

Pupils added to a memorial to the young people murdered in the Holocaust by visitors, by selecting a stone from the trough and placing it on the memorial, in tribute to one of the 1.5 million individual children who died.

Myddelton College’s first ever Duke of Edinburgh bronze expedition took place just before half term. Well done to everyone who took part.
