KEY FEATURES • Distributed data protection operations that run in parallel on

multiple data access nodes for optimal load sharing

• Fault tolerant model that redistributes task loads when data access node failure is detected

• Support for full, incremental, and synthetic full backups

• Support for data archiving

• Faster LAN-free backup and restores

• Support for restoring Hadoop data to a different Hadoop cluster or a non-Hadoop cluster (any other file system)

LICENSES • Server File System

SETUP REQUIREMENTS • Install the UNIX/Linux File System Agent

AGENT ASSISTED APPLICATION PROTECTION FOR VMWARE VIRTUAL MACHINES – EARLY RELEASE FEATURE

You can use Commvault software to perform application aware backups for VMware Windows virtual machines running the following applications:

• Microsoft SQL Server

• Microsoft Exchange

• Oracle

Application aware backups capture the state of application data at the time of the backup, including data in memory and pending transactions, making it easier to restore the application for continued use. An application aware backup for a virtual machine quiesces the application, flushes its memory, and completes pending writes, then creates a snapshot of application data. After the snapshot is created, the application resumes.

This feature is supported for streaming or IntelliSnap backups.

Notes:

• Only standalone deployments of Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle applications are supported.

KEY FEATURES • Application plug-ins automatically enable application access on

Windows VMs running SQL Server, Exchange, or Oracle database applications.

• Restore fully consistent application data from application client.

APPLICABLE AGENTS • Virtual Server Agent for VMware

• IntelliSnap for VMware

• Microsoft SQL Server Agent

LICENSES • Virtual Server (for streaming backups)

• Hardware Snapshot Enabler (for IntelliSnap)

• Application Class Virtual license for each protected VM

• One of the following licenses:

o CPU Sockets on Hypervisor Hosts

ENHANCEMENTS FOR LIVE SYNC WITH VMWARE - EARLY RELEASE FEATURE

Service Pack 3 provides the following enhancements for Live Sync with VMware:

• Failback capability for virtual machines that have been failed over to a secondary site. You can fail back to the original primary site or to a new site. This operation ensures that any incremental updates from the secondary site are replicated back to the primary site.

• You can replicate virtual machines to vCloud as well as to a vCenter. When replicating to vCloud, you can specify the organization, virtual data center (vDC), vApp name, and vApp owner.

• New reports for failover and failback operations.

• New Status field to show failover and failback status in the Live Sync Monitor.

• Live Sync information added to Health Report.

APPLICABLE AGENTS: • Virtual Server Agent for VMware

LICENSES: • Virtual Server

SETUP REQUIREMENTS: • The workflow engine must be installed with the CommServe

system.

• Create the allowToolsToExecuteOnServerOrClient additional setting on the CommServe node with the value 7 (category EventManager and type Integer).

• Virtual machines included in a failover operation must have been replicated at least once, and must have a status of In Sync, Needs Sync, or Failover Failed.

• Virtual machines included in a failback operation must have a status of Failover Complete or Failback Failed.

MORE INFORMATION: • Live Sync Replication

LIVE SYNC REPLICATION OF VIRTUAL MACHINES FOR MICROSOFT HYPER-V – EARLY RELEASE FEATURE

The Live Sync feature enables incremental replication from a backup of a virtual machine (source VM) to a synced copy of the virtual machine (destination VM). The Live Sync operation opens the destination VM and applies changes from the source VM backups since the last sync point.

Users can configure Live Sync to initiate replication automatically after backups or on a scheduled basis (for example, daily or once a week) without requiring any additional action from users. Using backup data for replications minimizes the impact on the production workload by avoiding the need to read the source VM again for replication.

APPLICABLE AGENTS • Virtual Server Agent for Microsoft Hyper-V

LICENSES • Virtual Server

SETUP REQUIREMENTS • The destination server must run Windows Server 2012 R2 or later.

• To add virtual machines to the Live Sync schedule, the virtual machines must have been backed up at least once.

APPLICABLE AGENTS • Virtual Server Agent for VMware

• Virtual Server Agent for Microsoft Hyper-V

LICENSES • Virtual Server

SETUP REQUIREMENTS • Setting Up an Application and Tenant for Azure Resource Manager

• Create a Microsoft Azure client

• Before performing backups of source VMs:

o Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) must be enabled on the source VM and the user performing the conversion should be able to log in to the VM.
