PRINCIPAL’S NEWS ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Congratulations to all students who participated in our carnival last Friday. We had a wonderful day and I would like to thank Mr Gray for his organisation of the day. It is a big job! I would also like to thank the Wentworth Shire Council for their support in preparing the oval for the day. Having our carnival locally was greatly appreciated by all! There will be more information for students eligible for the MDPSSA carnival, which is on Friday, 11th August, shortly. INTERVIEWS All class teachers are currently meeting with families to update goals and discuss student progress. If you haven’t managed to arrange a time to see your child’s teacher as yet, they will be in touch! EXCURSIONS There are two major excursions this term – for Year 4 and 5 to Woodhouse and for Year 6 to Canberra. These are expensive excursions and we want all eligible children to be able to access them. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact me to discuss payment options. Don’t leave it until the last minute! SCHOOL ATTENDANCE Your child needs to be at school on time every day, unless they are sick or have approved leave. Please contact the school to ensure all absences are explained. CONTACT DETAILS Can you please ensure that you have let the school know if your contact details have changed? It is important that these are kept up to date! BIRTH CERTIFICATES AND IMMUNIZATION RECORDS If you need assistance in accessing or applying for copies of these very important documents for your child, please contact the school and we will try to assist. They are required to ensure our enrolment data is complete. If copies of these documents are not already held at school, we will be contacting you again this term. INFORMATION BOOKLET During the next week, we will also be sending out an updated information booklet to all families. This includes general information about the school that may be of use to you throughout the year. Have a great week! EDUCATION WEEK In NSW, Education Week runs from Monday, 31st July until Friday, 4th August. We will be having a special extended assembly on Monday 31st July, commencing at 9:30am. We will be featuring some student work and our school band will perform. At the conclusion of the assembly, parents and guests are invited to join the children in their classrooms for some of the morning session. Cath Eddie Principal

IN OUR CLASSES…… K/1B Welcome back to Term 3, I hope you all enjoyed the holidays. Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for attending the mid-year goal setting interviews. I know the children enjoy having you come into the classroom to see some of the work that they have been doing and to discuss their learning. Congratulations go to Hope and Atreyu who were elected as our term 3 class representatives on the Student Council. I am sure they will fulfil this role with great pride and enthusiasm. Just a reminder that we have library every Tuesday and students are encouraged to borrow books regularly. Reading logs are to be sent in every Thursday for checking and readers are changed on this day also. Over the next few weeks we will be busy making our Wentworth Show posters, designing a kangaroo postage stamp for the postage stamp competition, and also completing our sewing of a mouse which will also be entered into the show. Have a great week. Leanne Byrnes 1/2P Welcome to the beginning of term 3! We have a busy term ahead which will finish off with the excitement of our school concert. It has been a wonderful start to the term with our parent/teacher meetings happening over the past two weeks. I can’t wait to work with the children to help them reach their new goals. This term we will be learning about Aboriginal Culture and Australian Animals. For homework poems will be going home to be practiced. Maths games are also available to be taken home and played with your family. More games continue to be added to our collection. Home readers will be returned to a tray at the front of the room everyday. Students will change their reader. I will check diaries on a Friday. This term we will be working with 3/4F to create an item for a retreat or man cave. The item needs to be made from recycled materials. We would greatly appreciate any recyclable items to be brought in over the next week so we can get started. Yvette Pomroy 2/3H Welcome to Week 2! It has been great to see so many happy student faces after the holidays. We’ve already been busy in 2/3H, working on our show craft (marvellous monster puppets), learning about author/illustrator Bob Graham and of course last Friday’s Athletics Carnival. Well done to all our place getters from the day. Please do not forget that homework is due next week. Over the next few weeks, the children will also be making/designing new reader boxes for the classroom. If possible, please try to save a cereal box that your child can decorate to use for their books in the classroom. Thank you, Erin Hammerton

3/4F I hope that everyone had a relaxing 2-week break. This term’s elected SRC delegates are Ellie Vines and Riley Dannatt. I am sure they will demonstrate leadership roles in conducting our class meeting. In English, students have been creating interesting poems. They will engage in a variety of poems and they will be our focus during the next couple of weeks. There will be a Kitchen and Garden session next week on Tuesday 1st August. Garden promptly starts at 9:30am followed by the Kitchen at 10.30am. Any volunteers or assistance in our Kitchen Garden class are very much appreciated. Our buddy sessions with 1/2P class will start this Friday. We will be doing Recycled and Repurposed Art “The Man Cave”. Artworks will be entered in a competition for Wentworth Show. If students could bring in cardboard boxes, plastic bottles or any other recycled material would be great! I expect that students have done their reading everyday during school holidays. Diaries will be checked every Friday. Homework was given out yesterday and will be due on Friday 18th August 2017. If you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to speak to me. Have a wonderful week ahead, Kathryn Fernandez YEAR 5M Welcome back to another busy term. This term we congratulate Jannalia McKellar and Tyler Wallace, who were successfully elected in as our Term 3 SRC delegates. We are all sure they will represent our class in a respectful and informative manner during SRC meetings, along with successfully running our weekly class meetings. What a fantastic aths carnival we had last Friday. You couldn't ask for better weather. Congratulations to all who participated and to those who have made it to the next level. Please ensure you read the Year 4/5 Woodhouse Excursion information in the newsletter. Throughout the next few weeks I will be absent for a day per week due to professional learning. I encourage all to remind their children on the importance of being respectful to others and demonstrate how well they can be engaged in their learning even in my absence. Please Note:

• Diaries with updated Reading Data due this Friday, 28th July. • Homework was sent home last Monday and is due back by Thursday 3rd August.

Have a great week, Sandra Marziano YEAR 6H Welcome everyone to the beginning of an awesome but very busy term. Term 3 will see Year 6 go off to Canberra and we will also have the whole school concert. It was wonderful to see so many students having a great time at the athletics carnival on Friday. Well done to everyone that got in and had a go at the events on offer. Parent/teacher interviews are continuing this week. Thank you to everyone I have already seen. Please contact me if you are unable to attend the allocated interview time or would like a time that is not on offer.

Each Thursday Year 6 students from Pomona will be joining our class in preparation for Canberra. We will be learning about Canberra, Parliament and we will be completing art pieces that are on display at National Art Gallery. Instead of having fortnightly homework, for this term there will be a major project about our democracy for students to complete by the 1st of September. It is important at this time to begin finalising payments for the Canberra excursion. This year both Miss Marziano and I will be attending the Canberra trip. It is also timely to remind students of their behaviour choices in the lead up to and during camp. Students will be bunking with students from other schools and also interacting with teachers from other schools. It is important that students understand the importance of maintaining their reputation and the reputation of WPS. If anyone has any questions about the camp or about payment for camp, please feel free to contact me. Have a great week everyone. Jenny Halls YEAR 4/5 SPECIAL NEWS – WOODHOUSE EXCURSION As mentioned last term the Year 4/5 Woodhouse Excursion which is being held from Tuesday 5th September to Friday 8th September total cost is $375 per student. This includes the students stopping at Monarto Zoo for a safari tour, and then proceeding to Piccadilly in the Adelaide Hills to the Woodhouse camp site where they will stay for the remainder of the excursion. Regular payments towards the camp are welcomed at the front office. Today all students attending the excursion would have received a Medical Form that needs to be completed and returned to school by Wednesday, 23rd August. Thank you to all the parents/carers who volunteered to attend this excursion. The response was overwhelming, but unfortunately only five are required. The five parents assisting with the excursion are Amanda Trewin, Donna Follett, Craig Wellard, Hayden Cullinan and Phil Baird. We also extended an invitation to the Year 4/5 students from Pomona Public School and they have taken us up on the offer, with Miss Jordana Shields attending on their behalf. Mr Gray and Miss Fernandez will be the attending teachers for this event. Please note that final payments are due by Wednesday, 23rd August, 2017. For further information, please don’t hesitate to phone or come in and see me. Sandra Marziano BOOK CLUB ORDERS Please note that Issue 5 of Book Club was sent home last week. Any orders and money are due back at school by next Wednesday 2nd August. Thank You. PYJAMA DAY Friday the 28th of July is ‘Pyjama Day’ at Wentworth Public School. For a gold coin donation all students are invited to wear their PJ’s for the day. The SRC have chosen to support this day as the Pyjama Foundation supports students living in foster care to reach their full potential and achieve their dreams by supporting their learning.

NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA Wentworth Public School is participating in the collection of nationally consistent data on school students with a disability. This includes students with Personal Learning Support Plans and adjustments that are made for students in every day teaching. The standardised data has been collected by the classroom teachers as a part of our whole school assessment process. This helps the teachers to support the learning needs of all our students at both an individual and class level. This data, in the future, will determine the support the school will receive in funding and professional learning the teachers will receive to best cater for our student’s needs. Attached to the Newsletter is some information about the NCCD, and a form that you can sign if you do not want the data of your child to be included in the collection. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this, please give me a call at school, or make a time I can talk with you. Kind Regards, Jodi Garraway P&C NEWS What a great fundraiser at the Junction Rally! Thank you to all the families that assisted and special thanks to Cath Eddie for all her help on Saturday. It was a very successful fundraiser for the P&C. Thank you to everyone that assisted the P&C at the Athletics Carnival, catering for lunch and recess. It was a great atmosphere down at McLeod oval watching the children compete. I would like to acknowledge the effort that Kelli Saunders has put into her position as Treasurer over the years. Kelli resigned as Treasurer at our last meeting. Also a thank you to Michelle Samson, for her efforts as Secretary this year. Michelle also resigned at our last meeting. Both positions are now vacant and nominations are now open. We are looking forward to a positive second half of the year with plenty of fundraising events coming up. Keep an eye out in the weekly newsletter for further news. Cheers, Craig President MUSIC LESSONS Louise Judd has vacancies for piano, keyboard, flute, clarinet and voice lessons.
