Hello everyone,
The Municipal Council would like to thank everyone that took
part in the discussions that have taken place over the last few months on the potential development project.
Your feedback has been extremely valuable. On June 8th, the final discussion of this concept phase was
completed and we have received many memoirs from residents. Unfortunately, one of the underlying themes,
despite our best efforts to inform the population, was a misunderstanding of some of the facts, procedures and
protections already in place. We felt it was important to summarize everything covered to this point in the hopes
of calming some of those fears.
In December, Council was shown a preliminary concept for the project and was asked for feedback. While it
was easy to identify what didn’t respect our regulations, we felt it was important to consult with you the residents
to better understand what would and wouldn’t be socially acceptable for this project, an important factor in any
future approval process. Our hope was that the feedback we would receive could better guide the Council
and the administration with future discussions with the developer as they revise their project. In February, we
presented the little information we could about the concept and have since had several public forms of discus-
sion on the subject. There were two major themes that have persisted throughout discussions: protection of the
environment and zoning changes.
The protection of the heron site on the property was of great concern to many and we are happy to confirm that
regulations already exist in Wentworth’s By-Laws to protect the site. Furthermore, we have asked through
resolution that the MRC and provincial government update their regulations to reflect our recognition of the site.
Wetlands are the natural water filters that protect our watersheds and local, regional and provincial regulations
strictly protect all wetlands. Any project deposited would have to provide in-depth studies by biologists identify-
ing all wetlands on the site and prove that they are protected before any approvals would be granted at all levels
of government. The potential for a golf course was also of concern for the watershed. Municipal regulations
prohibit the use of pesticides and fertilizers and require that all surface water be managed on site. As well, a
strict approval process at the provincial level is required. If these standards cannot be met, a course will not be
possible.
To date, most of the usages the developer envisioned for their project fall within those already permitted in
zone RU-6. There have been no requests for any By-Law changes. In the event that a change is requested, with
the official deposit of a project, the public would be consulted about the change and if needed a referendum
about the change would be possible. To be clear, the Municipality has no obligation to change any of its
By-Laws and would only do so if it felt it was in the best interest of the public.
We were also pleased to adopt a new By-Law requiring the signing of a promoter’s agreement for all new
projects. Learning from some of the failed projects of the past, this agreement would protect us from such things
as finished roads, poorly planned execution and expenses to be assumed by the Municipality. The agreement
would have to be signed before any work could proceed and would ensure it got off on the right footing.
In the coming weeks, Council will be providing our feedback to the developer and the real work of revision,
studies and reports will begin. This process may take several months to complete and we don’t expect to have
anything new to share anytime soon. However, rest assured that when a project does get deposited, all of the
public consultations and reviews outlined in the law will be respected. The potential impact of this project would
have lasting effect on the community and we will take the time necessary to make sure it reflects what we want
as a community.
A quick reminder that everything done up to this point has been a voluntary process initiated by Council to
maintain transparency with the community and in no way takes away from the legal process required for actual
approval. We would also encourage you to look online at our Wentworth website for more details on these
subjects.
I hope you all enjoy a pleasant summer and rest assured that Council is working with you and
for you to preserve our community.
Your Mayor,
Jason Morrison

The forest fire season is underway Good weather and caution in the forest The nice weather and heat begin to settle in Quebec with the arrival of summer. The month of June marks the
beginning of summer activites such as fishing, hiking and camping. Outdoor lovers and vacationers will have
to use caution if they have to make fires during their outings and activities in forests. Indeed, campfires,
4-wheelers and smoker’s items all represent potential causes of fires. Getting information on fire danger is the
best preventive behavior!
For a safe summer, please refert to the fire risk signs located at entry points to the Municipality or visit the
website of the SOPFEU (www.sopfeu.qc.ca) to learn more, reduce the risk of fire and thus prevent a fire on
your property from spreading into our forests. And remember! A fire will not go out on its own. Hot embers can
be revived by the wind.
To learn more, visit www.sopfeu.qc.ca or to be informed at all time, download the mobile app.

niques, who do not yet have official police status, but are able to offer many services to the public, while gaining
valuable experience in the field. Throughout the summer of 2019, it will be four police-cadets who will participate in
community life by traveling the territory of the 9 local municipalities of Argenteuil. The population is invited to give
the warmest welcome to these young recruits!
