BCHC/ Sierra Freepackers to lead Trail Ride with Mariposa Mountain Riders Mariposa Mountain Riders President, Shawna Dahl; Trail Committee Member Jodee Wilson and Membership & Insurance Chair, Mary Darlene eodore, attended theBCHC/Sierra Freepackers Unit June 20 th board meeting to discuss the MMR Trail Rides. Shawna explained a few details about MMR Trail committee not being able to get trails cleared or pre-ridden so MMR could have trail rides already scheduled. Reasons being Gwen is recovering from shoulder injury, Jodee is recovering from shoulder surgery, Peggy has family to take care of, Norma Jean’s horse is still recovering from an injury. at leaves Jane Smith to do it all when she is in town and not on an endurance ride. It has been really difficult for Jane to do everything without any help. Jodee explained right now we need to keep MMR moving forward so people who want to ride trails are able to do so. In order to accomplish this goal MMR needs people who are available and qualified to Lead Trail Rides as well as Riding Drag and possibly helping with clearing existing trails. Mary Darlene answered questions regarding Insurance and membership. We are very excited to have Cathy Miller, President of Sierra Freepackers, volunteer to Lead MMR & BCHC/Sierra Freepackers on a Trail Ride, August 26 th at Kelty Meadows. And Karolyn Waggle volunteer to be the Drag Rider. John and Laurie Wagoner said they would be riding and several others also showed interest in riding at Kelty Meadows with the group. So it looks like the August 26 th Trail Ride at Kelty Meadows is on for the Mariposa Mountain Riders and the BCHC/Sierra Freepackers! In appreciation of Sierra Freepackers helping with our Trail Rides. e MMR Board voted to offer a special incentive to them to join our club. For any Sierra Freepackers members who would like to Join Mariposa Mountain Riders Club there is NO CHARGE if they sign up between July 3 rd thru August 31 st e membership will be from the date they sign up through December 31, 2017.  Newsletter www.mariposamtnriders.com email: [email protected] Find your MMR newsletter on the web “Like” us on Facebook! Jerseydale Heliport Trail Ride

On Saturday, June 24th I rode with Mariposa Mountain Rider Tina Perry-Buirch and guest rider Mirabai Breemer at the Jerseydale Heliport. The weather was 92 degrees at the staging area and dropped into the high 80’s as we ascended the mountain for 1 ½ miles. Numerous wildflowers were still in bloom, and there was plenty of water on the trail for the horses. The mountain winds were with us for the majority of the ride which added to the day’s enjoyment. We decided to ride a little further and not stop for lunch. Since there were only 3 of us, we moved out on our horses at a slow jog on and off throughout the day. Our next MMR Trail Ride will be out of Goat Meadow above Fishcamp on Saturday, July 22nd. Please see our facebook event page for specifics about that ride, and we hope to see you there. Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias in Yosemite

MMR July 22nd Trail Ride

Our Mariposa Mountain Rider’s July 22nd Ride will be to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias in Yosemite. This area is currently closed to the public for restoration and vehicles are not allowed, but the “Outer Loop Trail” remains open to hikers and equestrians. The weather is always cooler than the foothills or valley areas because elevations exceed 5000 feet. There will be 3 small water crossings going up and coming back that can easily be passed while walking on foot with your horse in hand. The ride will be a total of 10 miles: 5 miles to our lunch-stop alongside the Outer Loop Trail and 5 miles back to the parking lot of the “Snow Play” area. Remember, we ride out promptly at 10am! Be sure to pack yourself a lunch, something to drink and bring along a halter and lead rope. Since there is no running or piped in water at the staging area, trail guide Jane Smith will have water for your horses before and after the ride. There’s plenty of water on the trail for horses. We look forward to seeing you there!

DIRECTIONS TO GOAT MEADOW: Parking and staging area for the ride is at the Goat Meadow/Snow Play Area. From Mariposa: Take Hwy 49S to Oakhurst. Turn left onto Hwy 41 and proceed to Fish Camp. Continue on Hwy 41 for approximately 2 miles past Fish Camp. Watch for the fist Yosemite National Park sign (a stone and wood sign)...very shortly after you pass that point you’ll turn RIGHT onto Mt. Raymond Road (there is a road sign). Follow it back to the paved parking area which will be to your left when you come to a gated ranger area. PINK RIBBONS ON CLOTHESPIN WILL LEAD YOU TO THE STAGING AREA FROM THE INTERSECION OF HWY 140 AND MT RAYMOND ROAD.

From Fresno: Take Hwy 41 due east towards Oakhurst. Drive through Oakhurst to Fish Camp.
