Events Korčula - Island of the Knights Korčula, the Central Dalmatian island rich with folkore herritage, has kept the tradition of chivalry dances and games for as long as four centuries. This tradition is deeply rooted in every inhabitant and is an important component of the social life of the island which is a home to eight knightly associations. Fencing dance ‘’Moreška’’ is preserved in the town of Korčula, and other places on the island cultivate ‘’Kumpanija’’ and ‘’Moštra’’ - sword dances with roots originating in the ancient carnival customs. Moreška- combat sword dance, was once common throughout the Mediterranean, but to date it has been preserved only in the town of Korčula where it is held regularly. Thus Moreška became known to the world as the most recognizable symbol of Korčula. This dance is characterized by a variety of movements, complemented by skilled dynamic fencing. Folk drama introduced at the beginning of the dance reminds one of Christian Spaniards fighting against the Moors. Enriched with the medieval atmosphere of Korčula streets, this dance takes us back to the glorious times of epic chivalry stories. The Korčula Moreška of today is certainly the most attractive fencing war dance in Europe and because of great interest to visitors of Korčula it is performed at least once a week. Moreška dance is accompanied by wind and percussion instruments. ‘’Kumpanija’’ is danced in Vela Luka, Blato, Smokvice, Čari and Pupnat, and ‘’Moštra’’ is performed in Žrnovo. These knight games are examples of chain dances with swords and are often called the “dance of the battle.” They are believed to have originated as a reminder of the battles with pirates who attacked the island of Korčula in the past. All of these dances are traditionally performed in the original environment on different locations on the Island of Korčula and on particular days which mark feasts of the patron saints of different places, but 13 years ago the Tourist Office of Korčula decided to organize the first festival of chivalry games in order to affirm the rich heritage and present it in its original setting as a first-class attraction of the city and island. The procession of chivalrous societies, fragments of dances performed in the surroundings of the old town, the festival and a gala performance by knights associations leave a profound impression on many visitors as well as the residents on the island. This year’s festival will be held on 1st July. Visitors to the Festival of Sword Dances in Korčula also have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the life and works of the famous medieval world traveler and explorer Marco Polo. homeland and there is a constant dispute about wheather the birthplace of Marco Polo is Venice or Korčula. However, there are a number of written documents about this great travel writer which day by day connect him more to the town of Korčula, where the International Center Marco Polo was founded in 1997. The island of Korčula can be visited by boat, ferry, catamaran or motor boat from Split, Hvar, Lastovo, Dubrovnik, Mljet Orebić and Drvenik. Nearest airports are in Split and Dubrovnik.

Omiš - Singing Town in the Heart of DalmatiaOmiš, a small town in the heart of Dalmatia, and at the mouth of the Cetina River has for 44 years been a host to the best a cappella singing groups (‘Klape’) that preserve and promote indigenous Dalmatian music and songs through a cappella singing. Croatian ‘Klape’ have the status of intangible cultural property, and have in recent years undergone a real renaissance thanks to the numerous festivals which spread the popularity of folk songs far beyond Dalmatia. One of such festivals is the Omiš Festival of Dalmatian Klape which has promoted the traditional sound of the Croatian coast and islands since 1967. This year the festival will last throughout the monthy of July. Omis is situated about 20 kilometers southeast of the biggest Dalmatian town, Split, with which it is very well connected. The history of this small town, which was first mentioned in the tenth century, is long and interesting as evidenced by a multitude of cultural and historical monuments, churches dating from tenth to eighteenth century, numerous monuments, fortresses, museums and other. The favorable position of town at the mouth of Cetina enabled it to defend itself in the past, and today Omiš is a unique curiosity of the Adriatic coast. The imposing stone gates through which the clear Cetina flows into the sea are a geological symbol of this old town and the river is at the same time the only way inland from the river Jadro to Vrulja. The historic city center is situated on the eastern coast of Cetina. Citizens of Omiš were well known pirates, which was made easy by the location of the town as well as their light and fast boats. The biggest feats of the Omiš pirates were led by Counts Kačić for as long as two centuries when they attacked the pope’s galleons and merchant ships from mighty Venice, Dubrovnik, Split, Kotor ... Numerous monuments hold witness to the rich cultural heritage of Omiš. The history of pirates is vividly depicted in the forts Mirabella (Peovica) and Starigrad (Fortica). Omis was protected by walls on three sides, and its north side was shielded by a mountain. This arrangement remained until the 19th century when the walls were largely destroyed.
Omiš riviera, spans over about 30 kilometers and is known for its variety of beaches and small fishing villages where one can find peace and escape the city noise. Those who want an active holiday are also in the right place as rafting on the river Cetina, free climbing, paragliding, scuba diving, sailing, volleyball, tennis and many other sporting activities on land, water and air will be at their fingertips.

‘Split Summer’is a festival of performing arts with a long tradition. During the years it has changed and adapted to modern times and today, alongside opera and drama, it stages jazz concerts and exhibitions. During the summer months Split becomes a big stage as numerous performances are held in open squares like the Peristil, Pjaca, Carrarina Poljana or in the Diocletian cellars, Fortress Gripe, Meštrović gallery and Kaštelet. Apart from organized performances one can often come across spontaneous gatherings on the streets of Split where even the citizens themselves are known to participate in singing, acting or dance. The focus of Split Summer is on opera productions featuring prominent repertoire selected from the theatres around the world. Famous singers appear before the audience inspired by the ancient ambient of the old town while the streets of Diocletian’s Palace form the perfect acoustic background. Alongside opera, the Split Summer also offers numerous plays, ballets and exhibitions, and in recent years, the organizers have begun to promote certain forms of contemporary art such as jazz concerts, film screenings, and street theater and performance. Split is an ideal choice for those who like to enjoy the sea and great art. In addition to numerous cultural events from 14 July to 14th August, Split will also offer its visitors plenty of attractions and entertainment.

Lovers of the Seventh Art have long known of the Pula Film Festival, one of the oldest film festivals in Europe which is also one of the world’s most attractive festivals in the open due to projections held in the historical sites of Kaštela and Roman Arena. In the last few years, it was joined by the Motovun film festival and Dubrovnik Libertas Film Festival, where projections are also carried out in the open among the old walls. Few are the world film festivals can boast screenings in the ambience imbued with centuries of history. A couple of years ago The Guardian included Pula Film Festival among one of the three best and most spectacular outdoor European festivals and this, 57th edition will offer to its visitors, lovers of cinematic art, a varied program of international and local film innovation in several categories. The International Programme Europolis-Meridian will feature a series of films selected from the most prestigious film festivals like Venice, Cannes, Berlin, Rome and Karlovy Vary and will be held from 10th to 24th JulyThe national program is planned from 17th to 24th July and film screenings will be held at the Arena. This is the best known and most significant monument in Puli where gladiator fights were staged during the Roman times. It was built in the first century AD, during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, at the same time as the biggest and most famous building of its kind - Coliseum in Rome. Arena is located outside the city walls of old Pula because of its size and geographical advantages, and the road which takes us into the city and today represents one of the main city roads was established at the time of Vespasian, when it also got its name - Via Flavia. Istrian town of Motovun will from 26th to 30th July host its 12th Film Festival, which has in a short time became a much appreciated gathering place for film fans. A rule has emerged in the recent years: every self- respecting movie lover must come to Motovun in late July, when this small Istrian town becomes the Croatian film Mecca. This picturesque town situated on top of a steep hill poses an idyllic setting for a festival which has persistently ignored the increasingly commercial nature of cinema and nurtures an independent film production which moves the boundries of innovation and artistic expression. In Motovun, one can watch professionally selected films from the current world production of various genres. The five day marathon of daylong screenings can satisfy even the most demanding film fans, and the Motovun Film Festival will also offer top entertainment in the moments when the eyes are not focused on the screen. The festival partner country this year is Slovenia hence the the best films of the Slovene film industry will be screened, the two most recent ones and a dozen documentaryand experimental works. The most successful achievements in recent years will be presented with five films in the retrospective programme.

Dubrovnik’s cultural offer is very rich, and it includes film industry under the auspices of Libertas Film Festival which brings to the Dubrovnik audience some of the most interesting films of independent production. Festival program includes full-length feature films, documentaries and short films but its uniqueness is certainly an environment in which it takes place because all film screenings are held outdoors among the old Dubrovnik walls. The sixth edition of the Libertas Film Festival will be held from 2nd to 6th July and organizers are promising a rich and high quality program with which the festival established itself in recent years. In the competition part of the festival audience will have the opportunity to see some of the best films of the latest world productions and the critically acclaimed award-winning titles that come from major world festivals such as Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Toronto. As before, Libertas will also present lesser-known cinematic jewels, and this time the productions come from Vietnam is Iceland. This year’s guest of “The Focus Programme” is Russia, a country of great filmmakers and great films. Always interesting and often watched programme of short films will once again introduce young authors.

Dubrovnik - 61st Dubrovnik Summer GamesThe Dubrovnik Summer Games are the oldest and most famous Croatian festival. Ever since 1956 this festival has been building its carisma and has become a part of European integrations through the involvement of prestigious Association of European Festivals.Every year festival audiences can enjoy the most beautiful pieces of classical music and the best theatre performances among the pleasant surroundings of the ancient city walls in the summer nights. During the festival classic theater and ballet productions are held on the streets and squares of this proud Renaissance and Baroque city. St. Jacob, St. Ana and St. Christopher are the three saints during whose feast days from 25th to 27th July, Rab returns to its medieval past. The medieval summer fair in Rab (‘Rapska Fjera’) is unique in Croatia and based on the historical heritage which dates from 1364 when municipal feasts were proclaimed in honor of King Louis the Great of Hungary, who freed Rab from the Venetians and in honor of St. Christopher the patron of the town of Rab. Participants of the event are craftsmen and artisans of the island of Rab, who are actively engaged in thaditional trades ensuring their existence as these were the trades which have existed since the Middle Ages as well as artistic associations and cultural societies that foster traditional values. Competitions in the ancient games of chivalry are shown in the magnificent Rab Crossbow Tournament, where knights compete for the award traditionally presented by the Duke of Rab. The atmosphere is enhanced by musicians and flag bearers, and all participants dressed in medieval costumes can join the great procession through the streets. Through the The Rab Fjera the citizens of Rab revive the memory of the appearance of their city while celebrating their freedom and an independent municipality. The town of Rab is the cultural center of pre-Roman times marked by the contours of the four bell towers, rich historical heritage and long and pleasant walking trails. It is a town with 121 year tradition of organized tourism and the center of the island of the same name with the landscape of amazing diversity and variety of beautiful beaches.

Summer is the time for holidays, enjoying the sun and sea destinations and getting to know new people, but one should always leave room for fun and that is just what Novi Vinodolski and Pag are offering by retaining the tradition of the summer carnival. This year merry carnival parades will take place in Novi Vinodolski on 2nd-3rd July. Traditionally during these days these days there is no room for serious faces and sullen looks as smiles infectiously spread throughout the town. Hosts prepare an unforgettable experience for all guests and invite them to hide under the masks, leave their worries behind and enjoy the celebration.Novi Vinodolski is a tourist town which developed from an old fort called Novigrad in the central part of northern Croatian coast. Thanks to the evergreen vegetation and mild Mediterranean climate as well as clean sea and air, Novi Vinodolski became one of the pioneers of the coastal tourist area in 1978, just after Opatija. The town features coastal architecture which is characterized by white facades and red roofs rising in the old town from sea level to the church and tower on the hill. Hospitality of the people, crystal clear sea, the city and surroundings without industrial pollution and mountain air from the high forests in the immediate hinterland suitable for hunting all provide Novi Vinodolski with invaluable environmental benefits. The carneval inPag will be held in late July (30th and 31st). It is the oldest carnival in the Adriatic. This fact alone is a guarantee to all visitors that they will experience something unusual. The carneval parade is held on the first day and on the second day the most attractive masks recieve generous awards. The end of the Carnival is also its most attractive part as a man-like doll called ‘mesopust’ is burned on the main square and people believe that by doing so they are banishing all evil forces for the next year. The city of Pag is situated on one of the biggest Adriatic islands full of bays, coves, beaches and capes. The largest, the bay of Pag is rounded by 20 km of sandy beaches. Pag offers unusual shapes, wild exoticism, gentle oasis, hiking trails and shallow bays touring which can last up to several days. The town of Pag originated in the 15th century and is famous for its salt pans in which one can still see the production of salt by the drying process in the small clay pools which contain sea water (saline). The town of Pag is also famous for handicrafts - famous lace making has been nourished over the centuries. Each piece of lace is a unique item and this slow and painstaking handiwork can still be seen on the streets of the old town.

The newly renovated hotel Valamar Riviera, formerly known as the Neptune Hotel, has recently opened its doors and welcomed its first guests. This elegant, small hotel, decorated in a nautical style, with a number of additional facilities is the perfect choice for anyone who expects luxurious rest and relaxation from everyday stress. It is also an ideal venue for business meetings, seminars, conferences and organizing various events. About 40 million kuna was invested in the reconstruction of the hotel and raising its rating from three to four stars. Modern rooms and suites reflect the marine atmosphere, and the rich variety of Mediterranean cuisine can be enjoyed in the hotel show-cooking restaurant and in the à la carte restaurant Spinnaker which has a spacious terrace and stunning views of the Poreč seaside promenade. Hotel Valamar Riviera also offers delivery of food and drinks so guests can enjoy local and international delicacies in the intimacy of their yachts anchored in the port of Porec. The investment also streched to raising the quality of rooms at the Valamar Sanfior and camp Marino, which got 21 new plots, six mobile homes and renovated horticulture.

Doli - “The Croatian dream”In the south of Croatia, in Sestrice Coves situated in the town Doli near Dubrovnik, a top tourist complex that will rival the world’s elite destinations such as Abu Dhabi or Monte Carlo should be completed by 2015. It is a project that bears the name of “Croatian Dream” worth 1.5 billion euros in its first phase and by completion as many as five billion euros. The total size of all the space on which the various activities are planned is 5,000 hectares, of which one part is in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The building plans for this area include 13 of the most famous hotel chains in the world, 56 five to seven star rating luxury private villas, mega-yacht marina with 400 berths, commercial airport, golf course, 350 suites, a stadium, promenade, shopping center, streets and plazas with luxury shops, galleries, museums, restaurants, bars, clubs, market center, multipurpose hall for concerts and sports events and even a film studio. All this will be interwoven with olive groves, lavender fields and vineyards. The hotels and villas on Sestrice Coves will have a total of 3500 beds, and next to the hotels there will be impressive villas of 2000 square meters. The authors of the project envisaged the growing and production of healthy food for the tourist complex on the nearby Popovo Polje, and there is also an idea to build a village in Bosnia in which the employees of “Croatian Dream’’ will live. Building of the most luxurious tourist resort on the Adriatic coast in an idyllic unspoilt nature of Sestrice Cove, situated 27 kilometers northwest of Dubrovnik, opposite Elafitis Islands, should begin by the end of this year. The area on which “Croatian dream”is to be built is near Dubrovnik, which will only be a ten minute drive away once the motorway is built.
Creators of the project argue that no other city in Europe has integrated so much content in one place. The ‘Croatian Dream’ aims to unite the charm of Saint Tropez and Porto Cervo, luxury nautical destinations like Cannes and Monte Carlo, the most prestigious golf destinations on the south of Portugal, and entertainment inspired by Barcelona and Las Vegas.

Hotel Minerva in Medulin, which recently opened its doors, is a unique hotel in Croatia which primarily directs its services towards health tourism and the guests who suffer from respiratory diseases, ie asthma, bronchitis and other allergic diseases where disease and problems to health are caused by environmental factors. The whole tourist offer and infrastructure has been concieved with this task in mind. This unique concept of service is derived from the natural environment ideal for asthma and pulmonary diseases patients, which then became the backbone of the new, specifically targeted offer of this hotel. Guests also can use a variety of programs, from school of breathing to a number of programs under the supervision of a medical specialist, pulmonologist, and pulmonary physiotherapy physiotherapists. Programs consist of a theoretical part - education about the disease: how to lower the frequency of acute attacs, training on the use of the device with the drug (Peak-flow meter), avoiding contact with allergens and other causes of respiratory obstruction. The second part of the program refers to the practice of breathing exercises and training in the open, using the beneficial effect of mild Mediterranean climate, sea water and aerosols as well as aromatic oils from medicinal plants and pleasant, relaxing walks along the coast. Every customer is treated individually, which is particularly important for those who are sensitive to certain allergens which are present in the immediate environment or are components of food that is consumed in the hotel. Trips and visits to cultural attractions and events in Istria as well as acquaintance with the Istrian gastronomic delights and rich sports activities are also planned within the program.The hotel’s infrastructure is also fully adapted to the aforementioned type of guests and only the natural and
“healthy materials” that were not treated with any chemicals, from floors, walls, bedding, rugs, and hygiene supplies in the bathroom were used. Also, air conditioning filters and water pipes achieved necessary certificates and everything has been subject to the needs of health.

Kaštela – The old tower Ćipiko gets a new role In Kaštel Novi the upgrade and restoration of the tower Ćipiko, a protected cultural monument, has recently started.The aim is to reconstruct and restore the tower and return it to its original condition as it was in the 15th century and open a four-star hotel. The hotel will have around 50 accommodation units, offices and exclusive apartments in the tower. It is an investment of 75 million kunas.The fort Ćipiko is a fortified mansion with inclined walls of the ground floor, which was built in 1512 by a nobleman from Trogir Pavao-Antun Cippico, and near it was built a fortified settlement for villagers from the area. It gives the impression of a strong fort, but the decorated balconies and windows point and its rural-residential purposes. It is the monumental tower Ćipiko, which houses the city museum, that is the symbol of Kaštel Novi, a place located 17 kilometers from Split. Within the archaeological collection of the Kaštel museum are preserved valuable ancient Croatian finds from the sites Bijaći and Radun, and Hellenistic pottery from the Resnik area. The wealth of heritage and history is preserved and nurtured at the Museum of Kaštel among the stone walls of the tower Ćipiko.A walk throught the tipically narrow streets of Novi Kaštel next to the stone porches and arches leads to the taverns of the Kaštel wine makers where excellent wines are kept, the fruit of their lovingly tended vineyards.

More and more low cost flights from Croatian companiesAn increasing number of low-cost airlines connect Croatian cities with European capitals.Zagreb has also, thanks to the Spanish company Spanair, since April been directly connected three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) with Barcelona and the same company will connect Madrid and Dubrovnik in the summer months.The Croatian capital is throughout the year connected through Germanwings with Berlin, Cologne, Hannover and Stuttgart, while Wizz Air flies to London and Dortmund. The low-cost airline Norwegian links Copenhagen and Oslo with Zagreb.Dubrovnik is the main landing site in the summer time for cheaper airlines, and from it you can fly low-cost to almost all parts of Europe. Germanwings flies from Dubrovnik to Vienna, London, Berlin and other German cities like Dresden, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich. The prestigious international award, “QualityCoast”, for the best seaside destination has recently been awarded in the Spanish Gijon to the island of Rab. Rab is the only destination from the Croatian coast and this part of Europe, that has received this award for excellence, which evaluates several important segments of the quality of the destination.The award is given by the European organization “Coastal and Marine Union”, created as a project by the EU’s 11 member countries. The goal of the organization is to establish a coastal network of destinations that share the same values and qualities in the field of sustainable tourism development and their involvement in international marketing and promotional campaigns.

Croatia has recently been referred to in the Korea Times as the ‘’Mediterranean Miss World”, and Dubrovnik as the
“jewel of the Adriatic Sea.”Croatia is rightly called a ‘’ Mediterranean paradise’’, according to the article, adding that it is one of the safest countries in the EU where tourists can walk freely, without any danger, day and night.
“This Mediterranean country has a rich cultural heritage from the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages, it has authentic traditions, dances, songs and cuisine,” writes the author of the article in the Korea Times who was delighted by the length of the Croatian coast and the number of national parks and nature parks. He stresses that Croatia is a country to which tourists often return and that Croats are very friendly and hospitable.He admires the Croatian shipbuilding industry, medicine and food, and the first Croatian electric car that won first prize at the Motor Show in Geneva.

The British monthly travel and lifestyle magazine, “Conde Nast Traveller” reports on Dubrovnik on five pages under the title “Croatian treasure: Visit the beautiful city of Dubrovnik on the coast” and with the conclusion, “Dubrovnik is again a chic destination” advises readers to visit and explore the city and the whole of Croatia.The author of the report, British journalist Jonathan Bastable points out that a few cities in the world leave such a striking first impression, and that as soon as you see Dubrovnik you will want to approach it and enter it. Using “Shakesperean” attributes he brings the beauty of Dubrovnik closer comparing it with a “stone symphony”, adding that this city is a magnet for well-known people, saying that a number of familiar faces stayed there and were looking for a house to buy (such as Oprah Winfrey, Kevin Spacey, Beyoncé. ..).In the report he describes his own experience of Dubrovnik’s old town and its inhabitants and compares its liveliness to old Rome. He says Stradun is “simply magical”, while compareing the magnificent walls with the Chinese wall. Entitled “Croatia – A Water Paradise”, the most popular and best selling weekly newspaper in Taiwan, “Yi Zhou Kan Magazine ‘(English name is Next Magazine) recently on five richly illustrated pages published a report on Croatia, which was largely devoted to Šibenik.The journalist and photojournalist Lin Wen Pei, after her stay in Croatia, wrote a travelogue about how she experienced this, as she calls it, country in the Western Balkans.Although the story of Croatia, “opens” with an image of, she claims, amazing Plitvice Lakes, and then pictures of Zagreb, three pages are dedicated to Šibenik, which is dominated by the waterfalls of Krka and the Šibenik Cathedral.The author says Croatia’s history has made it so special. Influences from Austria in the north and Venice from southern Italy have made it unique in the cultural sense.She says that Croatian King Petar Krešimir IV. in the XI. century made Šibenik magnificent and rich, and the River Krka is the pride of the city. At the same time she got caught in the beauty of the Dalmatian St. James Cathedral, which boasts a unique dome and a frieze with heads of Jurjev’s contemporaries. She walked through the alleys and streets in the historic center of town.The author, while staying in Šibenik, did not only visit historical monuments, mentioning in her report how she enjoyed swimming, diving, watching the fish and beautiful sunsets.
“Dalmatian prosciutto is very salty, but very attractive and tasteful,” concludes the report from Šibenik by Lin Wen Pei.

The beach Zlatni rat on the island of Brač is one of Europe’s top five beaches in the opinion of the British daily newspaper The Daily Telegraph which says that the sandy beaches stand out as one of the jewels of the Adriatic Sea. Apart from Zlatni rat, the British journalists were fascinated by several other Croatian beaches that they recommended to tourists. One of them is Usamljena plaža (lonely beach) near the beautiful Rovinj. As its name suggests, this natural pearl is ideal for those seeking peace, tranquility and relaxation in the unspoiled nature of Istria. Ideal for a romantic vacation, as well as for family gatherings, offering plenty of entertainment. The Telegraph also emphasizes the beautiful view of Rovinj and the surrounding landscape described to look like a postcard.On the eastern side of the Istrian peninsula, near Lovran, stands Medveja, a fashionable place for “families with style,” but also for those who like to spend time in the cocktail bars along the coast or in restaurants with local cuisine, says the Telegraph.Kraljičina plaža (the Queens beach) next to Nin, with nearly three kilometers of sandy coastline and the nearby lagoon Ždrijac with a beautiful view of Velebit is “one of those places on the Croatian coast which is breathtaking.” The British newspaper adds that, due to favorable winds, this beach is particularly popular with surfers and boarders.On one of the most beautiful islands of the Dubrovnik archipelago lies one of the few sandy beaches in the south of Croatia. Hidden on the southeast side of Lopud and yet close enough to be reached on foot, Šunj provides an ideal hiding place for those who want to just enjoy the sun and sea. This is a beach enjoyed by nudists so other visitors are warned by the Telegraph that the nudist and “normal” part of the beach are not practically separated.The islet Proizd, located near Vela Luka, enchanted British journalists who called it a geological miracle. With its rocky beaches, that sink deep into the turquoise sea and pristine nature it is ideal for ‘Robinson’ tourism. The Telegraph writes that on Proizd there are four popular places for swimming, and especially recommends beaches known by the names of Srednji Bili Bok and Veli Bili Bok.

Mirror - Croatia is indeed the Mediterranean as it once wasThe Mirror, one of the most popular British tabloids recently devoted an article about the Croatian coast in their “Travel” section.Journalist Nikki Bayley enthusiastically talks about the warm sea, the beautiful cities of Split, Zadar and Trogir, all that “less than three hours from Gatwick,” one of London’s airports.
“The slogan of the Tourist Board is ‘The Mediterranean as it once was’ and, for a change, the people in marketing were right. Along the coast with nearly 1,200 islands, of which only 67 of them inhabited and largely unspoiled, it is easy to imagine yourself in a world away from the fast way of life ‘, says the delighted Mirror journalist.She was situated in Trogir, on a catamaran, on which she further explored our shores. The City of Trogir is described as “a tangled maze of passages, small streets and inviting bars, with grapes hanging from the ceiling.”The second day of her visit was reserved for a visit to Zadar, which delighted her with the connection of the old and new. The city is full of ancient monuments including the Roman Forum, and churches of which stands out the church of St. Donatus, one of only three circular Catholic churches in the world.

Head out to the coast and be amazed by the famous Zadar Sea organ’’, writes British journalist, adding:” I sat next to the fishermen, and listened to the beautiful unearthly sounds they produce. “She was impressed by the monument ‘’Greeting of the sun’’ and its play of light, and nothing less by the gastronomic offer of local specialties of which stands the famous cheese from Pag and sardines that “melt in your mouth.”In Split, she was most impressed by Diocletian’s palace. ‘the Old Town of Split is one of the most interesting places where I was. It dates from the time of completion of Diocletian’s palace. He decided that he wanted to retire in Split, in an enormous palace by the sea, as you would wish too. The most fascinating fact is that people still live there “, said the journalist.After exploring the old town she had a swim on the beach in Bol, which she considers one of the five most beautiful beaches she has visited. The food she tried during her visit to Biokovo was deemed “worth climbing the mountain for” and concludes: “Yes, the tourist office was not really wrong. Stara Kapela – Slavonian «antistress village»The Slavonian village Stara Kapela, on the borders of Požega, Slavonski Brod and Nova Gradiška is the first Croatian
“antistress Village” which started being created five years ago by a group of enthusiasts gathered in the Association of Eco-etno village Stara Kapela. Members of the association, which today has 50 members, no longer wanted to be witness to the extinction of Slavonian villages and heritage so they decided to renew abandoned old properties. For now, four properties have been entirely restored, five are in the stage of opening to tourists, and three are being finalized. Stara Kapela should soon have 50 tourist beds.In the 500 meters long village wire fences are nowhere to be found anymore and have been replaced by traditional wooden fences, combined with old brick, oak and natural materials.Every traditional detail was respected and modern furniture banished from all the estates, and in its place was put renewed indigenous furniture.When word spread of the idea for an “anti-stress village”, that is, an eco-ethno village that transforms into an interesting tourist destination as “a rural-hotel ,association members started receiving from all sides traditional chests, cabinets, tools, pottery ...Members of the association built a pedestrian - bicycle path with six resting places and four replicas of the old blockhouses, which served as lookout points, set unique public lighting with 20 candelabra, namely petroleum lanterns that can be replaced by electric outdoor lighting at any moment. There are facades in traditional style on all of the 14 existing houses.After the first phase of restoration, comes the phase in which there will be an awakening of workshops with old crafts.

Zagreb – Return to the pastEvery Saturday until the end of September the streets of Zagreb, the Croatian capital will take visitors back in time. This is an attractive project called the Zagreb Time Machine, which is the common name for a series of events that the Zagreb Tourist Board organizes in the streets, squares and parks of the city. Zrinjevac will also traditionally hold the popular Promenade Concerts, which will entertain passers by with classical, jazz and pop music and the atmosphere will be complemented by various costumed characters from the past.Tourists will be able to see the old Zagreb coach and kids will be entertained in many workshops and playgroups.In the Upper Town within the program Upper town musical vistas, the memories of the old custom of singing chansons under a balcony will be renewed.At the heart of the city between Ban Jelačicć Square and Tkalčićeva street on the program will be the folk scene, and the tourists will, with the appearance of numerous cultural and artistic groups from Zagreb and its surroundings, enjoy the homemade cakes and apples.All these locations will have attractive costumed characters from Zagreb’s and Croatia’s history, among which will be the examples of knights, witches, old postmen, beautiful maidens and Zagreb ladies. Šibenik – The first hostel opened“Vijur” the first hostel in Šibenik recently opened its doors to guests. The hostel is located in the suburb Ražine, in the premises of the former offices of a former trading house.The former offices were converted into rooms and bedrooms, and other supporting facilities, such as a living room and a kitchen, which each hostel should have. The hostel holds 48 beds. It has one sleeping room with nine and seven beds, nine doubles, three triples, one four beds and one single room.The hostel management has announced that during the International Children’s Festival and other events they will have more favorable prices.With the hostel “Vijur” Šibenik now has a form of accommodation that it was missing.The hostel is located less than two kilometers from the sea, and is close to four national parks – Krka, Plitvička jezera, Paklenica and Kornati, which make it significant.

Drniš - The Archaeological Collection in the National Park KrkaIn Puljani, near Drniš, there recently opened the archaeological collection “Burnum” in the future scientific research center of the National Park Krka. The four rooms of the newly opened museum collection have been reconstructed to show the appearance of a Roman settlement and life in military camps. The museum collection “Burnum” is the result of systematic research, which began in 2003. The site is located within the Krka National Park, above the canyon, waterfalls and lakes in the area of untouched nature. The archaeological collection is new the park’s offer, next to the site of a Roman amphitheater “Burnum.” In addition to scientific objectives, the museum’s collection aims to provide conditions for cultural tourism, and enhance the use of hitherto neglected northern part of the river Krka. The exhibits were selected from the rich findings of architectural elements, gravestones, military equipment and weapons. It is expected that in the years to come the exhibition area of the archaeological museum will be doubled, the first in a series of completed constructions and tourist complexes in Puljani.

Lukovo – Peace at the foot of VelebitTwenty kilometers south of Senj, in the Velebit canal, lies Lukovo, a small but beautiful place. Lukovo is located in the bottom of the bay and while it is surrounded on one side by the mighty Velebit, on the other it is surrounded by a small peninsula called Malta. Lukovo has a long history, and it was named after the church of St. Luke from 1772.. The archeological finds, found above the village on the hill Klis, date from the Illyrian period, while on the beams of Lukovac drawings of men and ships from the late Middle Ages were found. These steep cliffs can be reached only by boat or ship, and are located only ten minutes of sailing away. In Lukovo there are about fifty houses, and throughout the year only around a dozen people live here, while in summer this number multiplies many times. The sea in Podgorje is generally cooler than in other parts of the Croatian coast because of the numerous underwater springs of fresh water that comes through the Velebit from Lika.In Lukovo the water is still warmer than in other nearby areas, and with its spacious beach makes the best place for swimming in the whole area during the hot summer months. But it is not just the warm sea and for the Velebit conditions a large beach, why it pays to come to this little place. The peninsula Malta is another reason because it is a realm of beautiful stone creations which is why it became a protected landscape. The attraction of Malta are the so called ‘’tunere’’ high lookouts, like ladders, obliquely inclined to the bay which in the past served the local fishermen as a watchtower from where they waited for shoals of tuna to enter the bay. Then they used nets for fishing and this was an important source of food and income for local communities. Today there is almost no tuna in the Velebit canal, so the ‘tunere’ have lost their function, and today serves as a tourist attraction.Lukovo is not developed for tourism and offers only 250 beds in rooms and apartments, but because of the beauty of the environment and peace it provides an ideal place for tourists who want to relax.
