Dear Parents and Friends, The second week of school has been extremely positive with lots of great things happening in the classrooms and beyond. The highlight of the week was the Meet the Teacher Information evening held on Tuesday. We had an incredible turn out of parents for this event where we had information on our Child Centred Learning structure, the Child Safe Standards and our School Wide Positive Behaviours Support Framework. After this session, parents and family members split into the specific school sections to meet the teachers and hear more about the programs in which their children will be involved. The evening culminated in a gathering in Café Coburg where we shared a light meal and had a chance to mingle with our community. I have heard very positive feedback from the night and will be looking for ideas to make the event better for next year. If you have any comments you would like to make in this regard, please feel free to email the school, give us a call or just pop in. Thank you to all of the families who came along and to the staff who worked hard to ensure their presentations were informative and interesting. Parents, please take note of the Call for Nominations to the 2019 School Council advertised in this newsletter. Nomination forms are now available at the office – you can either self-nominate of have somebody nominate you to the council. Either way, it would be a great opportunity to support the continued growth and direction of the school. Please take note of the due date of these nominations and complete those forms in plenty of time. A ballot will be held if there are more nominations than the number of positions vacant. Any questions in this regard, please do not hesitate to call and talk to me. Please also note that the newsletter will now be sent home every second Monday. All government schools in Victoria have a School Council. They are legally formed bodies that are given powers to set the key directions of a school within centrally provided guidelines. In doing this, a School Council is able to directly influence the quality of education that the school provides for its students. Parents on School Councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school.

Retiring School Councillors are Alan Pryde and Danny Smith. Therefore, nominations are called for two parent representatives. If you decide to stand for election, you will need to nominate as a candidate in the Parent category. Once the nomination form is completed, please return it to Warren Tofts no later than 4:00 pm on Friday 22nd February, 2019. A nomination form can be obtained from the office.

Remaining Parent Members for 2019 are Vance Duke, Rose Farah and Peter Kolandt. Remaining DET Representatives are Warren Tofts and Jennifer Trevan.

SCHOOL COUNCIL ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of School Council will be held on Wednesday, 20th March 2019 in the Parent Hub at 6:00pm. The Annual Report will be presented and all positions will be declared vacant. The first meeting of the new School Council will then be held at 6:30pm.

All members of the school community are welcome to attend the AGM.

SCHEDULE 4: NOTICE OF ELECTION AND CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

An election is to be conducted for members of the School Council of Coburg Special Developmental School.

Nomination forms may be obtained from the school and must be lodged by 4.00 pm on Friday, 22nd February 2019. Following the closing of nominations, a list of the nominees will be posted at the school.

If the number of nominations is less than the number of vacancies, a notice to that effect and calling for further nominations will be posted in a prominent position at the school.

The ballot (if held) will close at 4.00 pm on Friday, 1st March 2019.

The terms of office, membership categories and number of positions in each membership category open for election are as follows:
