Sharing the Joy of Jesus Christ with Others
…..Breavement Meal Ministry in Motion…..
Providing a meal for families who are grieving the loss of a
loved one is a caring ministry of FUMC that has become
one of the most appreciated ministries of the church.
As one recipient said, “ This ministry is amazing. It really
helped our family during our time of grief. Everyone was
so wonderful . They provided the food, graciously served
us, and had the whole room decorated in such a lovely
way. We felt loved and cared for.”
Pictured getting ready for a meal are:
Judy Sewell, Sarah Roper,
and Barbara Brown, Coordinator.
If you are interested in helping provide food for bereavement
meals and/or helping serve the meals, please call the church
office (903-657-6588) and your name will be added to the list.
Volunteers are called on a rotating basis. You will be asked to
provide a dish that will serve 8 - 10 people and you will be given
a time to deliver the food to the meal site (church or family ‘s
home).
December Sermons
December 7th
“God Is Dangerous” John 1:1-14; 3:16-21
Living faithfully for God can be
challenging, especially in a world that
lives contrary to God. Jesus is the light
that helps us shine amidst the darkness.
December 14th
“God Is Jealous” Exodus 34:1-14; Matthew 22:34-40
Our lives have meaning only when God is
our priority. His jealous love wants that
for us.
December 21st
“God Is Faithful” Genesis 17:1-9; Galatians 3:26 - 4:7
Through his birth, life, death, and
resurrection, Jesus reminds us that God
has promised to always be with us.
December 28th
10:00 a.m.
Join us for one combined worship service.
There will be no Sunday School.

December 2014
Why Advent?
The liturgical season of Advent - the four Sundays preceding
Christmas - can be a very special time in our lives. It is all too
easy for us to join the rest of the world in allowing
consumerism and stress to be the dominating themes.
Advent invites us to remember the reason for the season.
Advent can be a gift to us - a gift that reminds us of God’s
greatest gift, His Son, Jesus.
“Under Wraps: The Gift We Never Expected”
This year’s Advent theme reminds us that God’s Son came
“under wraps” and unexpected. Jesus adorned human flesh
and lived among us to show us what God is like, to remind us
of the depth of God’s love for us.
Jesus had - and has - a mission. It was - and is - a rescue
mission. Jesus came to rescue and redeem us so that we could
better know and love God.
I am praying we would each embrace this season of Advent
not just in our church, but more importantly in our homes, in
our community, in our lives.
I am praying we would approach these days of Advent looking
for God and expecting God to do something new and fresh in
our church, in our homes, in our community, in our lives.
May these be unexpectedly amazing days for you!
Grace & Peace,
David

Acknowledgment
A donation to the Angel
Tree has been made in
honor of Jean Colley for
Christmas by her family.
The annual Angel Tree Project at First United Methodist Church is under way!
Stacie Nix and Robin Goen are once again coordinating this project and would like to encourage all families and small groups to consider adopting an angel or more this Christmas season. The Angel Tree can be found in the hallway outside the Children’s Center of the church decorated with paper angels containing information about each one’s Christmas “wish list”. We hope everyone will have fun picking up items off the list and whatever else you find suited for your angel(s). The gifts should be wrapped and tagged with the Angel number(s) chosen.
If you would like to make a monetary donation to the project, please mark your contribution as “Angel Tree”.
The Angel Tree gifts are due by Wednesday, December 10th.

~ Our Ministry Stories ~ Featuring … Cyndy Willard
The Choir Ministry gave me the opportunity to
glorify God through beautiful music. My journey
began in 1956 as a 10th grader when my cousin,
Jack Cannon was youth choir director. With the
exception of my years in college, I have been a
member of the Chancel Choir with very talented
choir directors from Beulah Silverman to Jack Brooks. This present
group of choir members are talented, dedicated, supportive, fun and
good friends. Come join us. You will love this ministry and believe
me, you only need to make a joyful noise!
