FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Welcome to Term Four.

Our students are provided many opportunities to participate and excel in all Learning Areas. This term the Glee Club students performed at Telethon for the first time, which gave them another opportunity to showcase their talents. Congratulations to Miss Eversden and our Glee students for their fantastic performance.

Kai, Year Six, has won The Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators Inc’s, Young Translator of the Year 2018, Russian to English, junior category. This is a very prestigious award and demonstrates his considerable skills and knowledge.

Congratulations to all participants in the Interschool Athletics. We competed against six schools in track, field and team games. Bull Creek achieved an exceptional result by winning all three categories- Overall Points, Meritorious Award (based on school numbers) and Team Games. The students’ athleticism, endeavour, team work and enthusiasm contributed to a very successful day. I would like to thank Mrs Mac, Mrs Simon, Ms Francis, Mrs Austin, Mrs Allier and Mrs Lance who gave up their time in preparing the children for the events. Bull Creek students were excellent representatives of our school in their individual and team events and as always their behaviour and sportsmanship were exceptional. Well done to our Individual Award Winners. It was a fantastic celebration of the cultural diversity of our school during Multicultural Week this year. Sushi making was a huge success. Many thanks to the wonderful parent volunteers and Mrs Michelle Ward for helping to lead the team. More exotic and delicious international food was provided by parents on Thursday.

The grand finale was the Assembly on the Friday where virtuoso Theresa played two pieces on the Chinese Zither. The music was stunning! Our very own dance group performed a traditional Japanese dance called “Soran Bushi”.

Finally, Mrs Sudah Hegde and Maitree had the whole school dancing - Bollywood.

Our students increased their knowledge and understanding of our multicultural community and I wish to thank all the volunteers, teachers and especially parents who made the week a very special one with their kind donations of time, effort and scrumptious food. Congratulations to Mr Hofmeester and Mrs Watts for once again organising this important event in our school.

Congratulations to Mr Marshall, Mr Tisdale, Miss Sumastra and Mr Ellis and the music students and the children of Banksia Six and Sheoak Five for their entertaining assembly items. It is always a pleasure to see the enjoyment of the children as they perform their items.

Bull Creek Primary School took part in “Music Count Us In 2018”. Schools across Australia counted down to sing the same song simultaneously. This year's song, "One Song" was written by five high school students, in conjunction with music industry favourites Justine Clark and John Foreman. Students learnt the song in Auslan and joined in the singing with a live web stream from Hobart.

The 11th day of November 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the day the guns fell silent on the Western Front and the First World War officially came to an end. The RAAFA on Bull Creek Drive has poppies on display on the Aspect Lawn from Friday 9 November until Monday 12 November.

GLEE CLUB

Glee Club at Telethon 2018 Congratulations to the Bull Creek Glee Club who performed at Telethon on October 21st at the Perth Convention Centre. Glee performed in front of a live audience and panel of television personalities from Channel 7, singing and dancing to ‘A Million Dreams’ from the musical movie The Greatest Showman. With solos from Will, Ruby, Olivia and Dylan.

Glee Club had to go through an extensive audition process to get into Telethon. It was the very first time our Glee Club had performed at Telethon live on television and parents and students alike were all excited to be a part of it. Thank you so much to the parents of Glee Club members because without you Glee Club would not be able to perform and enjoy such wonderful opportunities. Ms Eversden Glee Club Coordinator

Many things are happening in semester two in German at Bull Creek. In September we had our annual Laternenlauf. It was great to see so many families making this event such a success. A special "Danke" to the Caspelherr family for organising food and drinks and well done to the actors and singers. Kids, you are amazing. Also in September, Years 4 - 6 took part in the German "Art and Poetry " competition. I was very proud of the qaulity of work our students put on display at this family event at the Rhein Donau Club. It was a fun evening with lots of games, songs, dancing and yummy German food. A few weeks ago, students in Sheaok cluster took part in the German Day Out. This year, we traveled to a school very close by, Shelley PS. It was a fabulous excursion where 500 Year 3 & 4 students played , danced, sang and spoke German together. In Pre-primary we have lots of adventures with Felix and Franzi, a frog and a duck puppet that help us learn German. Frau Colgan German Teacher

WATTLE 10 - KOALAS

We are having great fun this term in Kindy. We have all grown so much and are getting

very clever. Mrs King and Mrs Payne are so very proud of us all!

We read the story; “The Little Red Hen”. She found a grain of wheat, she planted the

grain of wheat, she watered the wheat and it grew tall and ripened. Then she cut the

wheat, took the wheat to the mill, took the flour home, made the flour into bread and

baked the bread. The Little Red Hen had to do it all by herself as her friends wouldn’t

help, they all had better things to do. When the bread had cooled her friends were keen

to help her eat the bread but The Little Red Hen ate it all by herself!

We all helped make bread and we all got to eat it! It tasted yummy.

We tried to crush the wheat into flour in mortar and pestles. The grains are very hard

and it took a lot of hard work to turn it into flour.

We played in trays of wheat. It was lots of fun! We got a lot of wheat on the floor! Evan’s

Mum was very busy sweeping the floor when she was in for parent help that morning.

We made wheat heads. We watered them and put them in the sunlight and watched

them grow. Mrs Payne took photos of our funny faces so the wheat would look like our

hair!

We planted carrot seeds in the vegetable garden. We need to look after them so they

grow and water them when it’s not raining. We all got to pull out some carrots and take

them home for dinner!

We read the story; “Rosie’s Walk”. Rosie went for a walk on the farm, across the yard,

around the pond, over the haystack, past the mill, through the fence and under the

beehives. All the while a very sneaky fox is hot on her tail feathers and gets himself into a

lot of trouble. It is very funny!

We have been practising our positional language such as; in, under, on top, beside,

between and in front, in activities.

We have finished learning all 26 basic sounds of the alphabet. We have fun singing the

Jolly Phonic songs, doing the actions, remembering the sound the letter shape makes and

writing the letter shapes correctly. We can even sound out and write words like; jet, zip,

web, van, yak and fox. Mrs King and Mrs Payne think we are amazing!

We are having so much fun learning our dance with Miss

Jenna on Friday’s. There are lots of dance steps to

remember but we are doing a brilliant job! Our skipping

has improved so much since the first week too! We are

looking forward to performing at Celebration Night.

Dyslexia Awareness Month

October is Dyslexia Awareness month and in recognition of this, some classes have constructed and flown red paper planes. The children measured the distance flown by the planes and the times that they stayed in the air. The colour red was chosen to represent the red pen that is used to mark and correct the children’s work.
