It is a bit tricky planning events around this unpredictable spring weather, however we did manage to get all the races completed. The PTA sold plenty of food and the students had the opportunity to participate and do their best. Thanks to everyone who supported and helped on the day and also to those parents who helped transport the children back to school. In the last few weeks remaining of this term we have the following events happening, speech finals, Northern Wairoa and Northland Cross Country and BOOK WEEK it would be great to see your support at these events. FROM THE PRINCIPAL SCHOOL NEWS

Well I didn’t get the weather right for our cross country on Friday, sorry about that. It is a bit tricky planning events around this unpredictable spring weather, however we did manage to get all the races completed. The PTA sold plenty of food and the students had the opportunity to participate and do their best. Thanks to everyone who supported and helped on the day and also to those parents who helped transport the children back to school. NORTHERN WAIROA & NORTHLAND CROSS COUNTRY

NW –Thursday 10 September at Dargaville Race Course. Northland– Thursday 17 September at Dar-gaville Race Course. These events are for students who excel at cross country running. Students who are selected to run at these events will be given a notice and permission slip to take home.

MONDAY: Book Display opens in the Library

TUESDAY: Author Donna Blaber visit.

WEDNESDAY: Parents/Whanau to visit

school. Children to share favourite book/stories with parents/whanau. Join us for a whole school family lunch.

THURSDAY: Grandparents day (if a child

does not have a grandparent they may bring an older friend) This is also our “Guest readers day from 11.30-12.30.

FRIDAY: Dress-up day (all children and staff

come to school dressed up as a book character). There will be a whole school parade from 11.30am onwards.

DPS SPEECH FINALS This year speech presentations will be held on Tuesday 15 September at 11.30am in the school hall. Students will be selected from the best in their classroom to compete in the finals. Visual aids will be used in their speech and they will be judged on content, delivery, use of visual aids and audience interaction. .

BOT MEETING To be held on Thursday 17 September 5.15pm at school.

AGRICULTURE DAY/SHOW DAY These days are in planning for late October and NW, the first week in November. It is time to complete selecting your calf, lamb or goat if you have intentions of bringing one to show day, the animals must be born between 1 July and 15 September 2015. Entry notices will be coming home shortly which will need to be returned to our office.

NW SPEECH COMPETITION Year 4 to year 6 students who wished to enter the NW Speech competition presented their speeches yesterday. Their speeches absolutely wowed the judges, they were well written and de-livered with flair. Only 3 points separated all the contestants. Jordan and Ellie were chosen to rep-resent DPS at the NW speech competition to be held at the Lighthouse on Wednesday 16 Sep-tember.

PTA FUNDRAISER CALENDARS, CARDS & DIARIES

Your children’s artwork for calendars is currently being created in their classrooms. Students artwork will be on display in their class-room on show day. Order forms will come home and will be needed to be completed and returned to school.

DRUM LESSONS

Kieran Nelson will be available to tutor drums from Thursday 17 September. The cost is $10 for a half hour lesson, ‘pay as you go.’

PIANO LESSONS Bernadette Keoghan is available for piano les-sons. Her contact number is 439 6357.
