AUGUST-2016 NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2016 CLASSES III-V Social Science Week Social Science Week was celebrated by the students of classes III - V from August 11, 2016 to August 12, 2016 with great enthusiasm. The week began with a special assembly which was conducted on August 11, 2016, by the students of classes 3A, 3B and 3C. On August 12, 2016 various classroom activities were conducted to give this week a thought provoking end. Students of classes III and IV watched a video on Indian National Symbols and class V watched a short film on life history of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, followed by worksheets. Students also presented their views and thoughts (along with pictures) on how they would contribute towards the development/betterment of our country. These activities were very informative as well as interesting for the students. AAVISHKAR QUIZ SERIES-II As per the guidelines issued by CBSE- The Rashtriya Aavishkar Abhiyan (RAA) to organize a School level competition for “Aavishkar Quiz Series” (TOPIC : “Motion”) in the area of Mathematics, Science and Technology, Delhi Public School, GBN also conducted first stage and second stage of the competition with the aim to promote creativity and innovative spirit among school children. The competition was conducted on August 11, 2016 for Level-I in three categories: Primary (I–V); Middle (VI–VIII) and Secondary (IX–XII). The candidates were selected in an impartial manner involving all students interested in the Quiz competition. Ansh Chauhan of V-E & Tanush Garg of V-A qualified for Level-II. The Level-II of the CBSE Avishkar quiz series was an online event which was conducted on August 22, 2016 in the school premises. The students shortlisted from level-I were the contestants in the CBSE Avishkar Online quiz series .The students logged in using their User-Id and password provided by the Board. 'Oral Hygiene Week' To inculcate the habit of taking good dental care among the students, the classes 3 to 5 in DPS, GBN celebrated an 'Oral Hygiene Week' from August 22, 2016 onwards. The celebration commenced with a visit of a team of four doctors from ODON Dental Care to the school. A Workshop on ‘Dental Care and Hygienewas conducted by Dr. Seema Bhayana. It was an entertaining and interesting workshop comprising of a few animated videos. The students were informed about the importance of oral hygiene and its necessity in a fun- lled manner.They were informed about the right steps and techniques of brushing the teeth. Some interesting facts about teeth of different living beings were also shared. After the workshop the students of classes 3 to 5 went for their individual dental checkup. This continued for three days, August 22, 23 and 24 , 2016. Three competitions like 'Most Dazzling Smile', 'Poster Making Competition on Importance of Oral or Dental Hygiene' and 'Slogan Writing Competition on Importance of Oral Health' were also organized during the celebration of the Oral Hygiene Week. The students creatively, actively and enthusiastically participated in these competitions. OUR YOUNG CHAMPIONS INTRA CLASS TABLE TENNIS COMPETITION OF CLASSES III – V An Intra class table tennis competition was organised by the school from 28 to July , 2016 August , 3 2016 for classes III to V. The competition was organized in the sports room by Mr. Ajit and Mr. Ram under the guidance of coordinator of classes III to V, Ms. Shikha Rathi. It was a wonderful display of swiftness by the participating students. The players showcased their skills in the game. TABLE TENNIS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP First time Table Tennis Player Dhruva Sharma of Class-VE bagged the rst position and a gold medal in Inter-School District Table Tennis tournament held at Noida Stadium on August 22, 2016. Students from Aug 2 16 ust , 20 classes III V enthusiastically participated in this activity. They made rakhi cards for soldiers and wrote personalised messages for them. cards to our Later the school sent these brave soldiers in the Indian Army. In the name of love for our country and our protectors, this event saw mass participation. The activity was focused upon enforcing the values of oneness, integrity and brotherhood amongst our children. Students used art as the medium to express their feelings towards our nation and gratitude towards the people involved in maintaining the state of freedom. It was a meaningful yet fun lled activity. Handwriting Olympiad First round of Handwriting Olympiad was conducted in classes III to XI on August 5, 2016 during the zero period. The Olympiad was organised by and was sponsored Write Right by . The development of good handwriting skills among the students was the Classmate main aim of this Olympiad. The competition saw the students full of excitement and enthusiasm to showcase their best fonts. It was an absolute pleasure to see their beautiful handwriting and a proud moment for the teachers to see their students perform so well. CELEBRATE EARTH, CELEBRATE LIFE! DPS, GBN participated in The Shri Paryavaran Mahotsava - an nter- chool event I S organized by The Shriram Millennium School It was based on the on Friday, August 5 2016. , theme Our teams competed in two 'Celebrating Earth'. competitions and won in both of them. Stuti Singhal (V-E) and Mansi (IV C) stood rst in the Poster Making Competition, Alaina Goel (V A) and Areen Abid (IV-B) stood second in Creative Minds (English) & Sagnik Basu (V B) and Avni Aggrawal (IV B) stood . The teams were second in Creative Minds (Hindi) escorted by Ms. Pooja Malik & Ms. Neetu (teachers In-charge). The competitions were judged by Ms. Rohini Devashar, Ms. Kusum Jain, Ms. Rituparna Ghosh, Ms. Saima Rehman and Ms. Sonia Singh. This event was aimed at celebrating the uniqueness of our planet Earth and to provide a platform to children to share their thoughts and put forth their ideas and actions that are sure to help mitigate the catastrophic consequences of man's actions on the life forms on Earth, especially the forest cover. It was a great platform provided to all the students to present their awareness, concern, creativity and a voice to their consciousness. Panache Mime Show, Inter-School Competition The Primary Wing of our school DPS, GBN participated in 'Panache Mime Show' an Inter-School Competition, organized by Jaypee Public School Noida, on August 10, 2016. The topic of the show was 'Little Deeds of Kindness.' Six students of classes 4 and 5 represented the school along with Ms. Vibha Singh. It was the rst experience of its kind for all the participants. It was a very good exposure and a learning opportunity for them. The students performed with a lot of condence and won hearts with their expressions. The performance gave a wonderful message to be kind without being selsh and respecting each and every individual. ATribute to A.P.J Abdul Kalam In a glowing tribute to the Missile Man of India, Ashar Khan a student of class 3E, of Mujhe our school DPS, GBN participated in ' Na Bhool Paoge' an Inter School Competition in Jaypee Public School, Noida. It was a very good exposure and a learning opportunity. He portrayed the character of Dr. APJ Kalam very beautifully. He spoke about the contributions of Dr. APJ Kalam with a lot of condence and conviction. His performance was very informative and inspiring. A Special Assembly by our little Freedom Fighters A special assembly was conducted on August 11, 2016, by the students of classes 3A, B and C on the occassion of Independence Day. The assembly started with the National Anthem followed by the patriotic song, 'Saare Jahan Se Achchha'. Different characters from the freedom struggle along with Bharat Mata were portrayed by the students. Their performance on the song ' Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai ' was lauded whole heartedly by the students and the teachers alike. The famous dialogue of each character was spoken out with a lot of vigour and enthusiasm. A lot of enriching information about interesting and unbelievable facts about India was given by the students to awaken and ll everyone with the sense of pride for the great nation India. The assembly ended with an inspiring speech by the principal, Ms. Indira Kohli where she also praised all for the efforts in putting up a wonderful assembly.

CLASSES III-V

Social Science Week

Social Science Week was celebrated by the studentsof classes III - V from August 11, 2016 to August 12,2016 with great enthusiasm. The week began with aspecial assembly which was conducted on August 11,2016, by the students of classes 3A, 3B and 3C. OnAugust 12, 2016 various classroom activities wereconducted to give this week a thought provoking end.Students of classes III and IV watched a video on IndianNational Symbols and class V watched a short film on lifehistory of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, followed by worksheets.

Students also presented their views and thoughts (along with pictures) on how theywould contribute towards the development/betterment of our country. These activitieswere very informative as well as interesting for the students.

AAVISHKAR QUIZ SERIES-II
