On Sunday 2 nd , from 3.30 pm, the exciting bareback horse race takes place in Piazza Alfieri where 14 Rioni and Borghi (districts) of the city and 7 towns of the province challenge themselves. Before the race, at 2 pm, a parade with more than 1200 people in historical costumes starts from Piazza Cattedrale (Cathedral Square). In the morning, the blessing of the horses and jockeys on the Churchyards and the exhibition of the A.S.T.A. flag throwers in Piazza San Secondo are not to be missed. At Palazzo Ottolenghi there will be the self-service wine shop as well as the spaces dedicated to Vermouth and grappa; in Piazza Roma the wine-tasting stalls and the agrifood market; Piatto&Dolce d’Autore (dinner cooked by renowned chefs from Asti and the lands surrounding the town) at the Scuola Alberghiera; Douja del Monferrato at Palazzo Alfieri dedicated to the best wines of the territory with the Consorzio della Barbera e Vini del Monferrato (Consortium for the defense and promotion of the Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato wines): furthermore, exhibitions and, on the third weekend of September, events in Piazza Cattedrale. ASTI – PALAZZO MAZZETTI August 28th – September 15th MOSTRA DEL MAESTRO DEL PALIO ANTONIO GUARENE A deserved tribute to Antonio Guarene, architect, painter, set designer, illustrator, costume designer, cartoonist, humorist from Asti, known beyond the national borders ... and above all a man with an important role in the Palio history: he was one of the proponents of the rebirth of the horse race in 1967 as well as promoter of its transfer from Piazza Campo del Palio to Piazza Alfieri. The exhibition dedicated to the Maestro del Palio (master of the Palio) will be held for the first time in Palazzo Mazzetti August 28th – September 15th DEL MANEGGIAR L’INSEGNA – IL MANEGGIO DELLA BANDIERA NEI SECOLI The Maestro Giovanni Nardone from Ascoli Piceno offers us a fascinating journey through the centuries to discover the history of the "flag" and takes us back in time to learn the art of "handling the flag": almost a dance, the ancient military signaling code has become a true performance during which emotions and feelings are expressed and each flag weaver is intimately linked to his flag. September 27th – February 3rd, 2019 MARC CHAGALL. COLORE E MAGIA For the first time in Asti, an exhibition curated by Dolores Duràn Ucar that examines the unknown aspects of Chagall's life and poetics; 150 paintings, drawings, watercolors and engravings, a selection of unique pieces rarely exposed to the public as they come from important private collections. An important event born from the collaboration of the Cassa di Risparmio di Asti Foundation, the Piedmont Region, the Municipality of Asti and Arthemisia. Not to be missed!
