News from the office:Hi everyone, welcome to the first edition of Aidexcel newsletter.Well summer is well and truly over and I hope you all enjoyedyourselves with all the activities and events that Barnet Short Breakprovides for your enjoyment and fun through so many organisations.

In this NewsletterIn this edition, we are pleased to welcome Adebola Olugbodi to theteam as our new volunteer administrator/PR, who has already madea fantastic start to her job.

Management CommitteeOur Annual General Meeting will take place on the 21st of Sept,2011. The committees are asking interested people to make contactwith a view of becoming a committee member. Anyone interestedin learning more about the roles and responsibilities of thecommittee should contact Faith who will be happy to fill you in.

The Grand Launching ofAIDEXCEL SUPPORT SERVICESThe organising committee for Aidexcel Support Services islaunching the organisation officially on the 24th September, 2011,from 4pm – 6pm. This is to create awareness - on a grand scale -about the organisation, what we stand for, our aims and contributionto the community we serve.

Inclusion RightsWhat is the current legal situation regardingthe inclusive education of disabled children? How has the SEN legislation changed underthe ConLib government? How do the Equalities Act, the Human RightsLegislation and the UN Convention on theRights of Disabled Persons impact on whathappens for our young people in schools?While we do not need to become lawyers, asparents it is very helpful and empowering toknow the rights of our disabled young people.The day in November will be facilitated byRichard Rieser who is an internationallyknown trainer and campaigner on disabilityrights. He has been working for inclusion forthe last 40 years and knows the history of thedisability movement and of the inclusionmovement like no other. He is an inspiringspeaker and excellent trainer.

AGMThe last general meeting was held in July, just before the summer break from school. A good turnout, but some parents/carers could not make it due to schools breaking up early. Black, Minority Ethnic Parents-Carers Volunteers TrainingDo you want to be part of this journey?You will be trained to work on our helplineand facilitate in schools.We are recruiting parents-carers of childrenwith disability/additional needs to be trained. This is a good opportunity to show your skills.

ENROLMENT DAYis Tuesday the 18th of October 2011.From 10am

Planning Positive FuturesA five day workshop for parents of disabledchildren.A journey from the past through the presentand into the future. We will look at new waysto think about disability with disabled peoplethemselves. We will look back at the pasthistory of disabled people. We will look atthe present approach and we will dare tolook at the future with hope together.

We have the Mayor Lisa Rutter’s backingfor full support and involvement incommunity development.
