Residents seek to modify Henry County GAOrdinance

Larry & June Stanley, Stockbridge GA, have started the process to requea change to the Henry County ULDC in regard to keeping fowl in R-1zoned areas. Currently the restriction requires a minimum of three acreand RA zoning. We are happy to work with county staff toward defining

specific requirements and authorizations for the code change.

Note the attached spreadsheet of other Georgia counties and cities whefowl, specifically chickens, are allowed for non-commercial uses. R-1zoning currently allows multiple dogs, cats, even pigs as pets. Fowl suc

as chickens, quail or ducks pose no more nuisance or public health problem and they do produce eggs fopersonal consumption.

It is our intention to purchase three or four Araucana chickens and housethem in a coop within our fenced back yard in an R-1 subdivision. The lot isheavily wooded and there is ample space between neighboring houses or

property lines.

Araucana are brightly colored birds that produce blueeggs. Blue-shelled eggs of Araucana chickens havehigher protein levels and lower cholesterol levels thanmarket eggs.

We hope you will join us in this endeavor. Please contact June at JUNE7420@ YAHOO.COM.

Columbia County, GA has a very reasonable view.

Raising chickens (not for commercial) in a backyard falls under the nuisance ordinance. As long as you ataking care of them and not bothering the neighbors, it is ok to have them. Of course, homeownersassociations may have tighter regulations. If it becomes a problem, animal services takes care of theproblem.

While Americans focus on preventing physical acts of terror, the real Islamic threat to our country comesthe form of CIVILIZATION jihad.... the planned, methodical infiltration of virtually every facet of oursociety and every branch of our government... (the article below is a perfect example)

Individually, these incidents may seem trivial and insignificant, however when you combine them all, theis a clear pattern of Islamic intentional saturation.

"Islam wishes to destroy all states and government anywhere on the face of the earth which are opposeto the Islamic ideology. Islam does not intend to confine this revolution to a single state or a fewcountries.. the aim of Islam is to bring about a UNIVERSAL REVOLUTION." - ( Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi,

Georgia lobbying proposal raises free speech debate

RAY HENRYAssociated Press

The next time the archbishop of Atlanta comes to the Georgia Statehouse, he may need to register as alobbyist.

A plan from House Speaker David Ralston that would force more people to register as lobbyists hascreated a debate over free speech rights. Ralston says Georgia needs a clear rule: Anyone who advocatefor or against legislation or policy must pay a fee, register as a lobbyist and publicly report their spendinHe would make exceptions for private citizens who speak their mind to their hometown officials.

It raises questions: What happens if citizens come to the Statehouse and speak with officials who are nofrom their hometowns? For example, a religious leader who supports tighter abortion restrictions or acitizen upset about budget cuts? When Roman Catholic Archbishop Gregory Wilton led a delegation of believers to the Statehouse on Tuesday to meet lawmakers, were those people expressing personal viewor advocating for a church that endorses and opposes legislation?

What Ralston calls a clear rule, others criticize as unconstitutional.

"I've never had to be confronted with such an abridgement of freedom of speech," said Kay Godwin, co-

founder of Georgia Conservatives In Action, who regularly drives to the Statehouse to influence lawmakeon a number of issues. She was part of a coalition that pressed for limits on lobbyist spending. "I don't g

paid. I do this on my own time."

Georgia has a problem with undisclosed lobbying, said Jet Toney, chair of the Georgia Professional

Lobbyists Association. He said leaders in emerging industries sometimes do not register as lobbyists as

they press state officials for business or regulatory advantages. Toney said leaders of regional advocacy

groups can dodge the registration and reporting requirements by claiming they spend less than $1,000

annually on lobbying.

Toney said that system is unfair to lobbyists who follow the rules. It also means the public does not fully

know who spends money to influence state policy.

"Unless you're the tea party guy who's sitting in his underwear in his basement, if you've got a group of

any size and you've been involved in any type of advocacy effort over a year's time, you've expended m

than $1,000, if not more, even if it's just in gas mileage just to or from an event," Toney said.

The Cit izen s Vi ew . It’ s just like the one-time tax you now pay when you buy a vehicle  – even a

private sale  – wherein the auto dealers were tossed a huge bone by the legislature. The new House Ethbill would require a lobbying license for you to visit your legislators at the Capitol and ask about legislatioSince when is it all right to be forced to pay a fee for petitioning your government in America? With thislegislation Ralston is pandering to  “professional lobbyists”  to level that playing field. Unfortunately Ralstis also slapping a hard blow to citizens and the First Amendment.

With Chuck Hagel's Senate confirmation hearing scheduled for later

today, it's worth reviewing a small sampling of the greatest hits of President Obama's defense secretary nominee:

On Israel:

-- Hagel, in 2007: The Israelis have  “chained down [the Palestinian peoplefor many, many years.”

-- Hagel, in 2003: Israel "keep[s] Palestinians caged up like animals."

-- Hagel, in 2006: Accused Israel of carrying out a "sickening slaughter" in Lebanon.

-- Hagel, in 2009: Signed a letter addressed to President Obama calling for direct negotiations with theterrorist group Hamas.

-- Hagel, in 2006:  “The political reality is that … the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people up here. ... me clear something up here if there’ s any doubt in your mind. I’ m a United States Senator. I’ m not anIsraeli senator. I’ m a United States Senator. I support Israel. But my first interest is, I take an oath of office to the constitution of the United States. Not to a president, not to a party, not to Israel.”

On Iran:

-- Hagel, in 2006, speaking in Islamabad, Pakistan:  “ A military strike against Iran, a military option, is noviable, feasible, responsible option.”

Passed along from a beekeeping friend: Tell the EPA: Immediately suspend the pesticide that's killing bees!

Dear Friend,

A blockbuster study released last week by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), has for the firsttime labeled the pesticide clothianidin as an "unacceptable" danger to bees.

Scientists have long thought that clothianidin is at least partially to blame for the alarming rate that beeshave been dying off in the U.S. - nearly 30% of our bee population, per year, has been lost to so-calledcolony collapse since 2006.

But the EPA has repeatedly ignored scientists' warnings and Americans' urgings to ban its use, citing lackof evidence.

Now, the EFSA study could be a major breakthrough to convince the EPA to take emergency action, andsuspend the use of clothianidin to stop the precipitous decline in global honeybee populations.

I just signed a petition urging the EPA to take action. Add you name here to speak out for the bees:

Obama's Jobs Council Shutting Down

By JOSH LEDERMAN, Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP)  — President Barack Obama will let his jobs council expire this week without renewinits charter, winding down one source of input from the business community even as unemploymentremains stubbornly high.

Even before it was clear whether Obama would renew the jobs council, Republicans seized on itslikely expiration as evidence the president has devoted insufficient attention to creating jobs, whichpolling shows remains a top priority for Americans. The Republican National Committee dubbed itpart of "the failed Obama record," while the House Republicans' campaign committee, in an online

petition, accused Obama of laying off his own jobs council.

Adding to the concern about the job market's continued vulnerability, the Commerce Department saidWednesday that the U.S. economy shrank at an annual rate of 0.1 percent from October throughDecember of last year, the first quarterly drop since 2009.

The Federalist Papers Project

James Madison wrote that  “a people who

mean to be their own governors must bearmed with the power that knowledge gives” .In  “Democracy in America” Alexis de

Tocqueville noted that Americans of that timewere far more knowledgeable aboutgovernment and the issues of the day thantheir counterparts in Europe.

The founders knew that only an educated

populace, jealous of their rights, would bestrong enough to resist the usurpation of their liberties by government. Today manypeople know nothing of our true history, or

the source of our rights.

The mission of The Federalist Papers Project

is to get people the history they never got inschool and to motivate them to push back at

the erosion of our liberties and restore constitutionally limited small government.
