Fox Run A huge thank you to both the Oxley and Milawa communities who did a fantastic job preparing, hosting and cleaning up the Fox Run event. It was great to see so many families either helping or competing in the event. This was the committee’s goal – to hold a community event that families can compete in together while supporting our local businesses. I have had many positive comments about the event and one that struck me was ‘Gee, this beats your average school fundraiser’. On behalf of the students and staff at the school, thank you Oxley community for your wonderful support in helping, make this event possible. Canberra Camp

What an amazing experience we had on the recent camp to Canberra over the last 4 days. The behaviour of the students, but particular the Oxley students was impeccable. The camp itself was action packed and we were on the go each day from 6:30 am to 9:30 pm. A highlight for many of the students and myself was our visit to Parliament house in which we actually witnessed the voting process of a new bill directly after role-playing our own bill.

I would like to thank the students and staff (Mrs Francis and Mr Shaw as well as all of the cluster staff) who attended the camp for making it such a memorable experience. Classroom Structure 2018 At School Council last week I released our classroom structure for next year, however as I discussed it still may change depending on numbers. This week we picked up another student who will be starting with us just after the Melbourne Cup weekend and he will be in the year 1 and 2 class, which will give us a possible enrolment of 93 students in 2018. At this stage, we are going to go with the 5-classroom structure in 2018, which gives our students the best possible student to teacher ratio possible, however it is vital that we know confirmed numbers so that we are sure that we can support this structure. We will also have plenty of support for both our students and staff next year with both Julie and Nadia playing supporting roles with the junior classes as well as Mr Shaw expressing an interest to increase his hours to an extra day to mentor our senior students and teachers at the school. Please call in and let us know if you are aware of any students who are still to enrol in a school for 2018 or if you are moving from the area. Transition Days Our final two transition days will be on Thursday 23rd November and Tuesday 12th December with a predicated class size of 17 students. Jeremy Campbell - Principal Oxley Primary School is committed to Nurturing confident, lifelong learners, in a friendly rural community.

Remembrance Day Ceremony See above in the Principal comments. Remembrance Day Speaker On Monday 30th October, Alistair Cox from the Wangaratta RSL will be speaking with students about Remembrance Day. He will be here during Monday morning’s assembly. If you would like to stay for this speech, please feel free. There are poppies, badges and bands available for purchase from the office foyer. Prices range from $1.00. Prep – 2 Library Visit On Tuesday our year prep, one and two students will be travelling to the Wangaratta Library to experience how a library operates. This fits into our PASSION program, as they will discuss the passion for reading. Permission forms need to be back before Tuesday. There is no charge for this excursion. Passions Day – Wednesday 1st November Students from all classes will participate in Passions Day. After recess, staff will discuss what passions they have in life as well as sharing them through activities and group games. Bush Market 2017 – Saturday 4th November

This year’s market is fast approaching and we are thankful again this year to Jean Box as our team manager! Included in this newsletter is a copy of the confirmed roster. If you cannot make it or have some spare time, your help will be greatly appreciated – on the day and before. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and friends of Oxley PS. Their fundraising efforts again this year have well exceeded expectations and this has meant that they have subsidised all camps for all students as well as support programs within the school.

Embrace Night (For women) Sheree Hallinan is a host of the EMBRACE movement that encourages all women to embrace the body they were given. To understand we are all different and to feel confident, happy and amazing in our own skin. We will be holding a film night at school on the 17th November at 7.30pm where we will show Taryn Brumfitt’s documentary EMBRACE. We will post more information next week on ratings etc. as we have had some parents hoping to bring their daughters along to this night. Members of the OPS community are asked to bring a plate to share. Cost of the night is expected to be $10-$15 per head. Embrace is a 2016 Australian documentary film directed by Taryn Brumfitt. It concerns women's body image and is a response to surveys showing that 90% of women are "highly dissatisfied" with their bodies. It includes interviews with Mia Freedman, editor of the Australian Cosmopolitan and television talk-show hosts Amanda de Cadenet and Ricki Lake.

Red Room Poetry Object 2017 This year during Term 3, the entire school focused on writing poetry. The grade 5/6 and 3/4 students entered a poetry competition open for students in years 3-6. The Red Room Poetry Object is a poetry writing competition inviting young writers and their teachers to submit poems about special and curious objects. It is open to students in Years 3-10 and teachers from Australia and New Zealand. In 2017, Poetry Object connected 190 school communities across Australia and New Zealand. Students and teachers from Jabiru to Launceston published a staggering 3,412 poems! The students worked very hard on their poems to submit for the competition. We are extremely excited to announce that out of all of the entries, two Oxley Primary students’ poems were shortlisted! The winning poems will be announced on Wednesday 29 November 2017. Congratulations to all of our students for entering. The poems are available to view at https://redroomcompany.org/poetry-object/poems/ A big thank you to Angella Francis for organising this excellent opportunity for our students to show off their poetic talents!
