Year 12 Computers Many of our current Year 12 students still hold a College owned Dell computer that was issued under a Federal Government scheme a few years ago. These computers MUST be returned to the College before students finish up at the end of their school year. Equipment to be returned includes – A Dell Notebook Computer, black zip case and a black power supply and cord. All of these items are to be returned to Mr Stephen Bath. Any damaged or missing items may incur a replacement fee. Students still needing to use their computer for school work may do so as long as Mr Bath is notified and the equipment is brought in for a check.

NOT RETURNING TO NEWCOMB SECONDARY COLLEGE IN 2016? Could parents of 2015 Year 7 to 11 students who will NOT be attending Newcomb Secondary College in 2016,

please notify the school as soon as possible. This information will help the school in planning for 2016.

Key Dates for Senior Students Term 4, 2015

As we approach the end of our regular classes, it is important that all families are aware of important dates for the senior students. These are shown below, please don’t hesitate to contact me for more information. The VCE Examinations can contribute up to 50 percent of a student’s overall Study Score for each subject area, and it is essential that our students give themselves every opportunity to succeed in completing these. Revision classes will be running for each subject area in the lead up to the exams, and unless a teacher has communicated otherwise, these sessions will follow the timetable arrangements that existed previously for that subject. We have a busy few weeks ahead, but with the right preparations, it can also be a highly exciting and rewarding time.

VCAL Project Completed - Outdoor Common Room Wednesday, 16th September what a beautiful day for pizza, speeches and a celebration of the completion of the Year 12 VCAL project for 2015. The Outdoor Common Room, a refurbishment of the shelter behind E-Block has been a great success for the Year 12 VCAL team this year.

The project has not only left a legacy to the school in the form of a useable space. It has also enabled students to learn and apply many skills along the way. Such as: Working as a team independent from teacher direction, as demonstrated by Brandon D, Zac M and Will A putting the wall planks back onto the structure in a perfectly level fashion.

Showing the initiative to work independently, such as Sandi S driving the clean-up and pack up and the end of every class, Jai S planning and creating the artwork for the ‘signature wall’, Sharni C and Kara M regularly commencing work staining the wood without direction. A willingness to take on a variety of tasks and learn new skills such as Tash A using a powersander, Josh K making the best coffee Mr Sinclair has ever enjoyed.

Not to mention an application of literacy skills as shown by Alex S and Miranda M in their efforts planning the opening event. Jeremy Sinclair (VCE Student Support Person)

Last Friday our Year 10 students participated in the Reach Thrive Workshop for the day. This day involved discussions about gender specific, future goals and personal development. We have been very fortunate to have Reach offer programs to our Years 9, 10 and 11s this year, as well our Wellbeing Staff attend free Professional Development days to understand the theory behind Reach and learn new skills.

We look forward to working closely with The Reach Foundation in 2016 and appreciate the workshops they have offered to our school which are invaluable for our students - a quote from one student "we should have more of these".

Western Metro Zone Sports We had four students represent the school at the Western Metro Zone sports on Thursday, 17th September at Alberfeldie athletics complex in Melbourne. First to compete was Emily T in the Shot Put who although confident, just didn't throw her best and was outgunned by girls who clearly trained regularly for the event. She did well to finish 5th.

Shania R took 1st in 1500m walk in an exciting race which unfolded in the last lap. Shania took the lead then held off the fast finishing 3rd place girl who claimed 2nd. Quote 1 for the day “It is actually harder than it looks”.

Lachlan C was shell shocked at the speed in the 100m, coming 6th. Quote 2 for the day, “THEY ARE SO FAST!!” (the most animated I have seen Lachie!!) He again raced hard in the 200m for 5th, but in the biggest frustration for the day, he threw a 40 metre practice throw in the Javelin, which would have won the event, but only managed a 34 metre throw as his competition throws.

Ally C was a nervous/excited wreck in the minutes leading up to her High Jump. She did a practice jump that made me wonder how she ever qualified but then pulled it all together, getting better and better as each round progressed. In an extremely exciting "jump-off", 145cm was nail biting as she and another girl missed their 1st attempts but succeeded on their 2nd. Both missed the 150cm mark. The leading girl cleared 155cm for her win and Ally came 2nd .

Great day had by all, I thoroughly enjoyed supporting these terrific students. Glenn Unmack

FAMILY ACCOUNTS

Thank you to all the families who have paid their family account up to date.

There are a small number of families still with outstanding essential charges that are now overdue. Prompt payment would be much appreciated.

Congratulations Nathan!!

Nathan represented the school in the Victorian School Cycling Championships state final in Bendigo last Friday for BMX. He did the school proud by coming 2nd overall in his age group (17 year old boys).
