Principal’s Address

Year 6 Farewell Fundraiser!

Mufti day has been organised for Friday 17 September. Students can come dressed in mufti and donate a gold coin for participation. Students should be suitably dressed with covered shoulders, hat and sensible footwear. The fundraising will go towards Year 6 Farewell costs. The current Year 6 will have a farewell. Given the current restrictions they will get a special event although it may just look a little different to what we are used to. Our Year 5 committee are busy organising and planning for the event. We have drafted several contingency plans given the restrictions we may face in the future.

Initial planning for 2021 and enrolments

If you/your children will NOT be returning to Holgate Public School for the 2021 year can you please notify the office by Friday 18 September Term 3 Week 9. Planning for 2021 is just commencing and a clear indication of student enrolments is required. Parents and carers are asked to either write a note, send an email or phone the school.

Parent Appreciation Stall and P&C Update

A fabulous parent appreciation stall was held yesterday. Thank you to those that helped make this happen for our students and parents. I know that 2020 has been an interesting and trying year with lots of changes in many aspects of our lives. This gift is a small appreciation for all you do in your child/ren’s lives and we hope it creates a special memory. Enjoy your parent appreciation and have a relaxing Sunday.

Book Parade

On Monday and Tuesday, we had our annual Book Fair and Parade. This year each individual class performed a routine in library classes and Mrs Ireland and Miss Ball videoed and compiled it. This will be coming soon.

Thank you Mrs Ireland for coordinating this event.

Good Luck Debaters!

Tomorrow our two debate teams go up against each other and the following Wednesday using the zoom platform against Wamberal Public School. Good luck to our two debating teams!

K- 2 Rumbalara excursion

Last Friday K-2 went on an excursion to Rumbalara. Students were super excited to be going and enjoyed the day. Please see photos of the day inserted into the newsletter.

Central Coast Family Services

In this fortnights newsletter I have included a local service The Central Coast Family Support Services at Kariong https://ccfss.org.au/. Their family support program is excellent as it offers a worker to meet with parents in the home/community to work through family difficulties. They also offer most of the programs throughout the year. You can select a suitable program depending on your concern. For behaviour management they recommend Tuning Into Kids, 123 Magic and Emotion Coaching, or Triple P. For those families with attachment difficulties they recommend Circle of Security or Bringing Up Great Kids. There are lots of programs available and at the moment many are free due to COVID and conducted online. Please see Term 3 flyer or go to website called Resourcing Parents

http://resourcingparents.nsw.gov.au/Parents.

Science Technology Engineering Maths (STEM Movie)

Just in case you missed our STEM Movie last week I have included it again. There is some great learning happening in our Maker Space and Release From Face to Face (RFF) program with Mrs Nash.

Tell Them From Me Parent Survey Semester 2 2020 Coming Soon!

Each year the Department of Education and Holgate Public School survey our community to help inform our whole school planning. The more contributions to these surveys will ensure more accurate information is collected from our community and used to plan for future initiatives and directions. We gratefully ask if parents and carers could take the time to complete the online Tell Them from Me Survey when it comes live.

Road Safety

Over the last fortnight we have had a few parents notify us that a few drivers are doing U-turns in front of our school or using local driveways to turn around and just missing students walking in or out. Please be mindful of the road rules and the safety of our whole school community.

Tree Planting – Green Dream Team!

Last week our Green Dream Team were busy planting trees throughout our walkway as part of National Tree Day.

Water bottle reminder

Please remember to pack a water bottle for students as our bubblers are turned off at the moment due to health guidelines. Water bottles can be refilled at school.

An unusual find in the playground

On Monday 31 August, Holgate students found something eggstraordinary near the infants classrooms. Upon eggsploration, the students found an enormous, shiny egg cradled in a large oversized nest, with three large unknown footprints in the surrounding area. The students will use this as a writing prompt during lessons this week. We are eggscited to see how they eggsplain the arrival of this unusual egg in their writing. What might be in the egg is the hot topic of conversation!

Tell Them From Me Survey (TTFM)

Parent Survey – Have your say!

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey is open now and closes on Friday 23 October, 2020. Your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to:

http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/holgatepublic2020

The survey is available in 23 languages.

If I can answer further questions, please don’t

hesitate to contact me on 4367 7444.

Thank you - Rebecca Rodwell - Assistant Principal

Greetings from the canteen

Greetings from the canteen

Last Friday the canteen broke the record for the most amount of orders. 86 is now the number to beat. Thanks to Michelle Addley for coming in to bag up all the orders. Bit of a difference to the week before with only 38 orders due to the Rumbalara Stage 1 excursion. The kids really must have missed the Friday treat. Thanks to Lisa Ridge for the help that day.

If anyone else thinks they can help, I would love to see you from about 12.30 for 1 hour only. I am still looking for a volunteer for this Friday, 18 or 25 of September if you can spare an hour it would be great. If you can help, check out the Facebook page and send me a message.

WE ARE A HEALTHY SCHOOL CANTEEN for 2020.

All money that is received into the canteen in the morning will be cleaned prior to being given as change and separate containers will be used when recess and lunch money is received, so as not to cross contaminate clean and dirty money. This is just a small measure we are taking to keep everyone safe. Kids are always encouraged to wash their hands and sanitiser will be available if needed. Social distancing will be encouraged.

Don’t forget to checkout our Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/Holgate-PC-Canteen-103292007744955/

Search Holgate P&C Canteen or follow the link to find us and keep up to date with what’s going on. Please complete lunch orders on a brown lunch bag (no small zip lock bags) with CHILD’S NAME, CLASS and ORDER with prices and please include payment.

Recess items on the menu are only sold over the counter at recess. Please don’t order recess items on lunch orders. Just come at recess and say g’day and it will be ready.

Ice blocks, chips and drinks will all be sold over the counter at lunch. Drinks can be ordered on the lunch order and will be placed in the bag with lunch.

Please double check all currency. Australian dollars only please. Canteen menu is available on the school website and also SkoolBag app.

Looking forward to another busy Friday this week at the canteen.

Cheers - Richard Shedden - Canteen Co-ordinator

Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL)

This week's focus has been on the bottom playground. As our school has recently put in some new shade sails (hooray!), we thought it might be a good time to revisit our lesson on behaviour expectations when down at the bottom playground. The biggest issue we have had has been with students not remembering where the out of bound areas are. Students have been reminded of those areas. Also, we have changed how we dismiss students to go and play. Instead of gathering students on the deck before we play, the teachers are now travelling to each group of students and letting them go play when they are ready. This means that students are getting more play time, which is always a good thing!

At Holgate, we are strong, safe respectful learners!

Regards, the Equity Team.
