Wow! What a busy performing arts week for students at Holgate Public School with Showcase and our school musical.

Congratulations Holgate!

Congratulation to the students and staff at Holgate Public School for such a polished school musical. The staff and students did a fabulous job at the matinee and evening performance last night. I am looking forward to our final performance tonight. I would like to acknowledge the staff, parents, caregivers and helpers who made the event possible; putting on a school musical is a massive commitment and requires a lot of additional work outside school hours. Thank you to those parents and community members that made, built, bought or organised any aspect of their child’s act.

Showcasing our School Choir

Congratulations to our school choir for your performance at Showcase at Laycock Theatre last Tuesday 28 August. Your performance was brilliant. Thank you to Miss Ball, Miss Nunn and Mrs Blair for organising and coordinating this event. It was a great opportunity for our students. The organisers of Showcase and the bus company noticed the exemplary behaviour of our Holgate students, well done! Congratulations Immy White on your solo performance ‘A Million Dreams’.

Seesaw a platform for sharing student learning

Seesaw is a great sharing platform for student work and for sharing teaching and learning experiences occurring in the school. The feedback from the app has been great. I would just like to remind parents and caregivers that the Seesaw app is not the place to organise appointments with staff, send through after school arrangements or any other request regarding personal arrangements or school information. Please contact the school by phone or the school email address. In future staff will not be responding to these alerts or messages.

Fathers Day Breakfast Thanks for coming and great P&C BBQ

Thank you to the P&C for organising the bacon and egg rolls for the Father’s Day Breakfast. It was great to see so many male role models, caregivers and dads attend. The soccer games and orienteering were a hit.

Interrelate Cybersafety parent workshop Thank you to those parents who attended the workshop last Wednesday night. There were so many great ideas regarding managing devices, screen time, safety precautions and agencies and websites to suppport parents. I have inserted in the newsletter some valuable handouts to share. Band Parents – for your diaries Central Coast Band Festival

The Central Coast Conservatorium has planned a Central Coast Band Festival on Sunday 28 October at Mingara. Vicki Harris is coordinating it for our school concert and training band participation. Further information will be emailed to you from Vicki. It is a great opportunity to showcase our school bands.

School Evaluation of Strategic School Directions – Community Voice needed!

Over the next ten weeks the school begins the cyclic evaluation of the school strategic directions and milestones for 2018 and planning for 2019. This will include short and sharp electronic survey’s, focus and consultation groups and the ‘Tell Them From Me’ survey (students, staff, parents and caregivers). Please try and engage in these opportunities for parent, caregiver and community voice.

Watch our Filmponds!

Staff have engaged in robotics, coding and Filmpond professional learning this term. Staff have recently learnt how to make films using the platform Filmpond. There are currently three films that staff have made. I hope to see four more Filmponds go live onto our website early in Term 4. We hope to have students making and creating Filmponds during 2018-2019. Please click on the link below or visit our school website for viewing.

Planning 2019 – has begun!

If your child/children will NOT be returning to Holgate Public School for the 2019 year can you please notify the office by Monday 17 September. Straw Tower STEM Engineering Australia Competition

Congratulations to all the Year 4 students and Mrs Nash for your participation and efforts in the Straw Competition. When students arrived at the competition the Straw Towers were weighed and their height measured to make sure they met the set criteria. After this each group went up on stage to see how much weight their towers could hold. Our students were so excited and proud to share their designs. The process was a great opportunity to develop the student’s creative thinking skills.

Mobile Phones and Techology Devices

Any mobile or technology devices are to be brought to the office and collected at the end of the day.

Entry and exit points to the school – Keeping Us ALL Safe

Entry and exit points for students and the community are painted yellow. Where you see red gates these are considered unsafe for entry or exit to the school grounds as both are school car parks.

School News Zone Athletics

Last Monday, 38 students from Holgate attended the Zone Athletics Carnival at Mingara. Holgate students represented our school proudly, even though the weather was absolutely shocking! It was the coldest day of the year and some of us were soaked from the rain, but we managed to smile and compete in events doing our best! Congratulations to Louis Bull (2nd place 200m, 3rd place 800m and 100m), Chloe Bridgland (2nd place shot put) and Charlie Mogg (1st place shot put) who were selected to represent our zone at Sydney North in Week 9. Best of luck to you!

Tell Them From Me Student Survey – Years 4 - 6 Tell Them From Me Student Survey (Term 3, 2018) – Years 4 - 6

This term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me Student Feedback Survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

You may remember that our students also participated in a Tell Them From Me student survey in Term 1 this year. Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to identify trends in student responses as well as track engagement and motivation across the school year.

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 27 August and 26 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by tomorrow Friday 7 September, 2018.

Thank you
