RANCHO CUCAMONGA PT CRUISER CRUISIN CLUB 2009

    MARCH 2009 NEWSLETTER ISSUE #28

To Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin Club

On Saturday February 28, 2009 our club cruised to

my home town in Desert Hot Springs for the 4 th

Annual Desert Hot Springs Car Show near my home.

The temperature for that day on Saturday reached 84

degrees and the day was very sunny. I worked very

hard for this show to make sure everyone who

showed up with their cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.,

to have a good time at this show.

I arranged with the city for our club to get adiscount by presenting their club I.D. membership

card and get the $5.00 off the entrance fee. I would

like to thank Car Show Event Director Marsha Perez

who was kind enough to approve this club discount

    in advanced.

There were no problems at all during this eventandlater during the afternoon as I relaxed by my PT

Cruiser I thought to myself, I dont mind putting this

much effort to get this car show going so good

because I can see everyone here is having a good

    time and enjoying themselves.

Iwould like to say to all of the club members fromRancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin Club, thank you for cruising to this car show andshowing your support for this special event. Thisclub is like one big family! You all have a lot ofclass, thank you so much for showing up to my

hometown car show here in Desert Hot

Springs. You are all winners to me.Sincerely - PT Eddie Johnson - Candy Cruiser.

A White and Purple Flag Flies InEdward Johnsons Front Yard.

Its the flag of the order of the Purple Heartand it is the first thing you notice when youwalk up to Johnsons Desert Hot Springshome off Camino Avenida Ramada. It is partof him. Ask him and hell tell you he earnedthe right to fly that flag. Look in his eyesand you know he did. Walk inside and in asmall antique room just off the living room, adisplay is laid out almost like a shrine. Thebattle and service ribbons, news clippingsand photographs, his Purple Heart and, justbelow, a swatch of camouflage that oncecovered his combat helmet. There is atennis ball size hole torn in the back.

It was New Years night 1968 PFC EdwardJohnson, U.S. Army 3rd Brigade, 25thInfantry, was following an armoredpersonnel carrier just miles from theCambodian border. Johnson was manningthe 50-caliber machine gun and his buddyJim King was nearby. It didnt take long forthe firing to start. They hit us witheverything they had, he said. Amid thebazooka, rocket and gunfire King tookJohnsons place on the machine gun.Johnson had his hands on two cans of 50-caliber ammo when the rocket hit. The forceblew Johnson out the carriers back door.King, manning the machine gun up front, was severely wounded. His leg wasshredded like paper from the knee down, it

should have been me. Johnson said. Thepain is still there. Forty-two years later, itstill is. Its a part of him.

He was just 19 in 1967, a kid from Burbankwho loved cars, when he dropped out ofschool to join the Army. Four months later,he was in the field. The Army taught him alot, he says now. Respect, discipline, andloyalty but fear he would have to conquer onhis own. People would say they werentafraid to die over there. I was, Johnsonsaid. Thinking again about that New Yearsnight, Thats a night I will never forget. Itwill be in embedded in my brain the rest ofmy life. Dealing with that night and otherswas tough - it still is, Johnson said. Therewere pills and suicidal thoughts. It took mea long time to adjust (to being home), hesaid. I wanted to leave the world. No oneunderstood.

Over the years, hes learned to talk about it,knows there are others like him, and knowsthat forgetting isnt the answer.Remembering is. Though the pain is stillthere, so is the pride. Last week, he wasalready thinking about The Veterans DayParade. Thats pride, he said. I am proudto be an American, I was proud to serve.

Eddie Johnson A True American Hero.

Desert Hot Springs Cruise - February 28, 2009

The week started with a threat of rain with a possible shower towardsthe weekend, which would have made it a little tough on the 4 th AnnuaDesert Hot Springs Car Show put on by the city. Last year this cashow was cancel and the year before the car show was called HotAugust Nights, but never before has there been so many complimentsand congratulations as there were even days after this Car Show on

    February 28.

This years car show Director was Marsha Perez and theCoordinator for the event was Eddie Johnson. Alexander Mendoza wasthe disc jockey and announcer on stage. The great looking trophieswere designed and created by Island Cruiser Awards. This car showwill be remembered as one of the best and much of the credit has to begoing not only to the many helpers but specifically directed to MarshaPerez and Eddie Johnson for putting on such a great show.

This cruise was a remarkable cruise for our club and eventhough we all arrived at different times in different groups we manageto come together after the event and form a half circle in front of thestage with our PT Cruisers and honored to be congratulated byrepresentatives from the city. The Police Department Officers were

excited to have their pictures taken with our club in front of the PTCruisers and also with the God Mothers PT Cruiser while Lucy washolding a replica of a 1930 gangster machine gun. All three officerswere all smiles and happy to be involved with our club as we click awaywith our cameras.

As I mentioned afterwards to the club members while eatingat a very delicious Mexican Restaurant, this town has the nicest andfriendliest people around, and they really know how to show theihospitality. Mike and Maria Savedra live in Palm Springs andrecommended this restaurant so after everyone pitched in to load theclub trailer with the sound system and equipment after the show, all ous cruised over to have a very delicious dinner.

As usual as we always seem to do we stayed at the

restaurant several hours and then headed home. The Car Show wasmagnificent, the company was great, the dinner was delicious and thecruise with the conversations on the two way radios was enjoyable althe way back home to Rancho Cucamonga. We ended our day longcruise at about 10:30 p.m. a little late but with a big smile lookingforward to the next cruise.

The following day the pictures of the cruise were uploadedinto the clubs website and not only did Rancho Cucamonga PT CruiserCruisin Club win the 1st Place Participation Trophy for having the mosclub members at this event, Lucy Carrillo (The Godmother) also won 1s

Place for having The Best PT Cruiser at this Car ShowCongratulations Lucy!

As the trophy winners came up front to the stage to receive

the winning trophies, when Lucy Carrillo walked up to the microphoneshe dedicated her 1st place winning trophy to her beloved sister whorecently passed away after battling a long struggle with the cancer shehad developed.

Arlene Frances Garcia from San Bernardino, California(April 14, 1951 - January 21, 2009) Parents are Frank & Margaret GarciaSisters Lucille, Noreena, and Noreen. You have made an honored andgreat tribute to your sister and please accept our deepest sympathiesfor your loss. Arlenes name will be honored on our clubs website.

DirectorRoger Michellfollows up the hit romantic comedyNotting

Hill (1999) with this thought-provoking thriller. Ben Affleck and

Samuel L. Jacksonstar, respectively, as Gavin Banek and DoyleGibson, two New York men whose lives become accidentally

intertwined in a Good Friday fender bender on the FDR Drive.

Late for a crucial appointment, hotshot lawyer Gavin tosses Doyle

a blank check and leaves the scene, while Doyle, whose car is

inoperable, is late for a court-appointed custody hearing. A

recovering alcoholic, Doyle's tardiness doesn't sit well with the

judge, who - sick of waiting for Gipson - grants custody to Doyle's

ex-wife in Doyle's absence. The situation worsens when it

becomes evident that Doyle has an equally important file

belonging to Gavin, which proves that an elderly man gave

Banek's firm power-of-attorney over his foundation. So begins an

escalating war of words and deeds between the two men. Soon,

egged on by an associate (Toni Collette), Gavin hires a "fixer"

(Dylan Baker) to destroy Doyle's credit, forcing Doyle to fire back

with some cunning moves of his own. Changing Lanesco-stars
